18 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1906: GameMaster: Game was extended due to at least 1 member failing to enter orders and having an excused missed turn available. This has un-readied all orders.
23 Aug 19 UTC Gratz to germany. Albeit vs very little northern resistance.
Very disappointing game for me though. Nobody to work with properly. Russia screwed himself from the start and Austria apparently more interested in allying anybody but me. Think we could have taken down Russia fairly quick actually.
23 Aug 19 UTC Gratz to germany
23 Aug 19 UTC GG all!

I feel your pain Turkey. Spring 1902 is bizarre: France is being attacked by Germany and builds two armies, but England both attacks Holland and moves against France. I think that is the beginning of the chaos that allowed Germany to build a balanced set of pieces and take advantage of the other western powers (very well done on your part, Germany!).

I screwed up in Autumn 1903 when I missed an opportunity to support Italy into Aegean. I don't really blame Italy for turning against me at that point. But you also have a fair point Turkey that I could have easily allied you in 1902 after Russia's goof to Armenia let you take 5 SCs. I think I was just too afraid of allying a 5 SC Turkey.

I'm trying to get better at gunboat and it feels like those tiny little mistakes (like missing AEG), or small good or bad choices where there's an opportunity to take a risk for a good reward (like taking the risk of allying an A/T with 11 SCs between us), are what it boils down to. I had some good opportunities here and really missed them. Germany had some good opportunities and took full advantage.

Well done again Germany!
23 Aug 19 UTC @Austria: your new dots usually do not come from Turkey but from Russia or italy. Besides Bulgaria that is. So helping Russia and Italy seemed illconsidered. Especially with both of them already proven to be stabby.
23 Aug 19 UTC It was not just Spring 1902, in 1904, when germany moved into Edinburgh, England was still hanging onto me. I did not understand that either, sorry :-)
23 Aug 19 UTC Yup that is a great point. I think my thinking was a little too rigid in terms of alliances.

Hm, I guess specifically in regards to Austria, you mean that getting past the initial 5 has to be done by land, and that means either attacking Russia or attacking Italy, but attacking Turkey you can basically only get Bulgaria?
23 Aug 19 UTC My point is that if you ally Russia you cannot expect too many Turkish dots. Same with Italy. Too me it looked like you lost plenty of time defending homecenters vs I/R with no real means of expansion.
@France: Yes England was very strange indeed.
23 Aug 19 UTC That's a really good way to think about gunboat... without being able to manage the long-term coordination (due to the lack of press), you need to think about where you can get dots the quickest.

The problem is that you STILL need to build alliances, even if they are shorter-lived than in FP.

Man, GB is hard.
23 Aug 19 UTC Italys first move basically delay any lepanto considerably. So if you still ally Italy after that it gives him sort of a free stab at you while sharing in the problems of the delay.
Did not try to ally Russia in 1902 for very much same reason. He basically would have cost us 2 turns compared to default moves. while also delaying/defaulting northern game.
23 Aug 19 UTC I tend to go with mutual beneficial interest. So in my mind Rum/Sev should eventually fall to Austria while Turkey takes Greece. or Austria keeps Greece and i get Sev.
24 Aug 19 UTC gg all! I got lucky with the blind communications between everyone haha. enjoyed playing together!
24 Aug 19 UTC Well played germany!
