Pot: 35 D - Spring, 1915, Finished
Classic, Anonymous players, Draw-Size Scoring
2 excused missed turn
Game drawn
11 Sep 19 UTC Autumn, 1908: I just don't get it. It's draw-size scoring. Initial investment was 5 points. Which means that the difference between a three-way draw and a four-way draw are almost nonexistent.
Does Germany think he can solo? Seems extremely unlikely. Do we really need to continue this game for another month?
11 Sep 19 UTC Autumn, 1908: Wow, suddenly I'm a bad guy... I'm onboard with 4-way, but can you get Austria to agree? They never did
12 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1909: But you said you didn't want to pursue Italy. I did expect you to take Mars but not proceed further.

I think either way the game is stalemated whichever happens first:
- somehow we eliminate England (technically challenging)
- or Italy is eliminated first mostly by Austria, in which case I expect us to have much easier time ejecting England

Is there enough patience to wait until Italy's gone?
12 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1909: Idk, is there?
13 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1909: Wow this game is buggy! Apologies to Italy for sending this message
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: Is there a bug in this game? The progression has been showing "now" for almost a day now.

Is it just me?
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: "The last process time was over 12 minutes ago (at 08:55 PM); the server is not processing games until the cause is found and games are given extra time."
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: Just you, France. Every now and then the game produces a display that fails to match reality, and whilst you may see a stuck game on the verge of a likely 3-way, what is actually happening is that Turkey is about to solo.

The traditional solution to the problem is to cancel, and whilst that means me giving up on my inevitable solo I am willing to make that sacrifice if everyone else is :)
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: "The last process time was over 12 minutes ago (at 08:55 PM); the server is not processing games until the cause is found and games are given extra time."
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: I suspect it's a case of the bots trying to take over again. The last server fail I'm aware of was when the bots were allowed to carry on a game after the human player was defeated, and were well on the way to game year 3000 with no sign of a conclusion when the site decided it couldn't take it any more and refused to go on. It could well be something similar again.
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: Thanks for the info Italy.

Also, Turkey, your generosity shown through canceling the game is only matched by the humour of your post.

But the stuff with the bots might be real though. I mean, who on earth thought that teaching an AI about Diplomacy (=the art of lying) was a good idea?
Bot, are you trying to solo? Oh, you're still allied with humans, huh? Sorry for doubting you.
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: How can we make sure that bots aren't metagaming?
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: There's a reason they never support each other
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: Actually... an AI only Diplomacy game where the AI communicates with the others and tries to figure out whether the other is lying or not would be incredibly interesting.
24 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1911: And would definitely break the servers
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: The way to make this game truly memorable is if Austria draws right now, and keeps our buddy Italy onboard. Italy has well deserved this. Thoughts?
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: I would be fine with that.
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: It was a tedious game and Italy stuck it out to the end.
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: How about you let them settle in Spain?
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: An interesting idea. As an exiled observer I am a tad curious why you've been fighting a private war in the north when you could have come to Italy's aid and enforced a four way some time ago if you were so inclined.
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Gonna guess spite
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Good guess for most cases, but nope.

I guess we're already at analyzing the game?

After England was reduced to Edi, I moved south to fight Italy. Germany stabbed me, before even establishing his stalemate line. I expected the stab after that, but ok. Germany was immediately attacked by Austria, so he asked me to forgive him. I said ok, even gave him advice in how to set up a defence against Austria.

I moved south against Italy once again, but managed to come to terms with him. By this time Austria was clearly the guy who would solo, everyone else was just hoping to draw (this is why I did not expect another stab). In comes German stab number 2.

At some point even Germany realized that maybe Austria is a threat, so he asks me to commit all my units south. I said ok, but I want Belgium back, and North Sea DMZ'd. He claimed I was collaborating with Austria against him, so he wouldn't. At first I thought he was joking, but he still used this line just 2 turns ago.

So I took Edi and Belgium by force, and now he probably acts like it was his plan all along. Good for him I guess.

The lesson from this? If Austria admits that we were indeed collaborating together, Germany will get paranoid and attack me.
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Luckily I'm still in time to set up the stalemate, but if Austria thinks otherwise, we can play for a couple more rounds.
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Any chance I can be spared in either case?
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: I guess if Germany promises not to stab me for it, I can let you into Spain.
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: <3
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: :3
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Wait, what am I witnessing here? France has a heart?
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: That's a heart?? And there I was thinking it was a symbol representing teabagging... Suddenly so much becomes clear...
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Omg
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Teabagging? Um... I don't think you understand that term to use it like that.
01 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: So what's it gonna be
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: So France is just asserting their dominance?
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Can you actually give an answer for once?
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Germany's actual response in private message at 12:51

"I don't think you should keep Italy around, it's better they learn from their mistakes than be rewarded for incompetence"

Look, Germany, the reason you have been doing well in this game was because Russia made a whole array of questionable moves, Turkey negotiated an alliance between you and I, and my patience, which, admittedly, was nearly depleted. Not because of competence.

And the question asked was: would you stab me for it?
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Are you also hearing voices in your head? I never sent that message. It actually sounds like something you made up.
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Right... then why don't you tell everyone that you'd gladly have Italy in Spain?
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: I believe I made the original proposal? If you don't like the idea, just say so, stop trying to blame everything on me.
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: I just wanted certainty, that's all.
Ok Italy, welcome on board.
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Also, Germany, people in this game lie to get themselves ahead, not for the pleasure of lying.

You should keep that in mind for future games.
02 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: Well — it hurts my soul to say this, but Austria and I want Italy eliminated.

It's nothing personal, but me it's all about them points, but Austria still holds a grudge.

And honestly, Italy has made mistakes throughout the game, and should learn from them, rather than be rewarded.
06 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1914: Well, that's odd. How does one enter civil disorder halfway through a phase?
06 Oct 19 UTC Autumn, 1914: If you can't give us an explanation, who can??
06 Oct 19 UTC Wait a second. If we all draw right now, Italy prob doesn't get a share, this is why we are shown to be worth 12 points right now. If Austria draws now, we all get more.

Your choice Austria. Solo won't work anymore I'm afraid.
06 Oct 19 UTC So if you guys want 12 points I suggest drawing now.
06 Oct 19 UTC And about Turkey's question: if someone is kicked from a game, every order is unreadied. If everyone readies their orders again before a replacement is found, then the guy who left simply holds with all their units.
06 Oct 19 UTC 12 points... my precious!
06 Oct 19 UTC Tedious game. But I sure learned quite a few things. Goodbye everyone.
06 Oct 19 UTC Cheers, all. A few great characters in this game!
06 Oct 19 UTC GG all!
