14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: Pressed for time. Important and/or things to note

--> Russia is very unhappy with me at the moment. He is clearly unhappy about you being in his back. I may point out that Italy is in ours.

--> Italian issue. You build London. We cannot let him into the channelI build Brest (fleet) and Spain (SC) fleet. Permutations:

You go to channel

Brest to Mid supt by Spain SC. This dislodges.
He must retreat to Irish or Portugal to get a supply. My bet is Irish because if he goes to Portugal, he gets kicked and is dead. There is no where to retreat. Wouldn't that be nice...

If he goes to Liverpool, you take Wales. I slide from Mid-Atlantic to North Atlantic. He gets the supply center but is doomed.

Next move you hold wales. I go to clyde
--> I go to Clyde. If he does, we bounce. Next term we double team liverpool and and he is ejected - dead.
--> I go to Clyde, he goes to N Atlantic. - no supply next turn - dead
--> I go to Clyde, he goes to Irish - No supply - dead

This only works if all other supply centers are taken.Turkey will take Venice. I think Russia will take Trieste. He will need a southern port. (It will need to be a key target so he cannot get into the med. We do not want him building ships there.) I can get Tunis. Hopefully Turkey will agree to me taking Tunis.

BTW, by building Spain SC, if Italy goes north (which we cannot stop anyway), I have a fleet deployed in the Med which we will desperately need. One problem with chasing the Italian is that I will not have enough fleets to hold the med or parts of Italy. I will have to work something out with Turkey. If Turkey wants to roll into the Med, we are in trouble.

The stuff is about to hit the fan.

14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: I think you meant to send this to England? I'd like two of the four Italy supply centers. I'll be getting Trieste next turn, and I could also get Tunis if you are okay with that.
14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: Or we can leave Italy’s centers alone :)
14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: Surely this brazenly open discussion of the division of Italy flies in the face of international law
14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: Frog with the infinitely recursive reverse psychology here. He did already mess up once this game; was this a second or was it intentional? The world may never know.

14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: Wow. This is hilarious!
14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: Well I end a work day and am greeted like this. I mean, I got a laugh out of it, but now I have to figure out whether he meant to fuck up or not. I'm not sure which is worse.

well as in all things,

14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: Oh and Italy, I'm afraid it isn't and in fact there are settings so that you can only talk in global chat in some games.
14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: I was joking
14 Mar 18 UTC Autumn, 1905: "Infinitely recursive reverse psychology" - another great phrase. Must be a computer programmer...

I'll be sending out a global chat later tonight.

15 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1906: In the past week and a half, family matters and changes at work have made it extremely difficult to monitor and play this game. In the last 5 days, I have consistently come close to missing order deadlines or have had to resort to attending to the game in the wee hours of the morning. I’ve been averaging less than 5 hours of sleep a night since Sunday. Something has got to give and as much as I like the game, it’s a game. It has to be low priority. Further, I don’t see the situation getting better until early summer at the soonest. Since you would all be affected by my withdrawing from the game, it seemed best to run my thoughts by you. They are in order from what I think is best to least good.

Switch places with Italy – If there were some way to do this, it would be the best. Italy has actively engaged in playing but probably may not be in the game too much longer. If a web master could somehow switch our units, Italy could become France and I could become Italy. I doubt that this is possible but I like the idea best as it allows the game to go on with the least amount of disruption.

Draw – All remaining players have been active and have played a role in shaping the game. This seems reasonable to me. It also means that Italy is not eliminated due to the misfortune of crappy board position.

Withdraw / not place any orders– I’ll take the hit from the web master if there is one for disrupting an otherwise good game. I do not know how this web site handles AFK players or their units but we could find out.

Become a thrall / passive player - The game could go on and I’d become totally passive and let another player submits orders for my units. They’d formulate the move orders, forward them to me and I’d input them daily. I agree not to meddle until such a time as France was eliminated, a draw was declared or someone won. I think the balance of the board would require England controlling my units but you can discuss this. My concern is that I am really struggling to meet deadlines and take care of family; I don’t need the ever-changing orders deadline. It would be a risk that England or whomever would need to embrace. There is no guarantee that I would not need to leave the game if things get worse.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks.

16 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1906: Sorry to hear you're unable to continue. I would be happy to cooperate with any of those options.
16 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1906: As the sole retreater this turn I'm intentionally delaying the triggering of the fall turn for 24 hours so people can take a breath and take care of other things. Perhaps that may make the game more sustainable in the short term for someone like France---I'd hate to see you go. See you all Saturday.
16 Mar 18 UTC Spring, 1906: Seeing as that accursed frog has been my ally I appreciate the delay.

17 Mar 18 UTC Thanks for the reprieve. :-) Sent an email to a moderator to see if position swapping is possible. No word back yet.

Accursed Frog, humph! Perhaps you should blow me a kiss and see if I change into something delightful....
17 Mar 18 UTC With the frog leaving, this game has lost its spark. We only had Four nations (including myself) that actually talked regularly the entire game, and in the best-case scenario I have a partner who has sent me 12 sentences over the course of this game. (not including the couple in global, I counted)

Either; I have to deal with a man short on time, who has already miss entered orders and put a communication into global and allowed Italy to live then demanded that we try to work with him. A great track record for a thrall. Or I have Italy in his place who is actively stabbing me in the face. And in the case that he does get control of France either he allies with Russia Turkey, or has just weakened his own ally. I cannot even ask him not to stab me as we don’t know if the switch will happen and if it doesn’t he loses the unit this turn and kills himself.

It is a shitty situation.

I vote draw. We all come out ahead, not as ahead as we would like, but ahead none the less

If that is unacceptable I suggest to France, pull all units back with me, and Russia and turkey can have a mad dash for it that at least would be interesting, as it stands the spark is dead and since this is my first game ever I lose nothing. I am reset to 100 and move on with other games

It has been a pleasure gentlemen

17 Mar 18 UTC I'm voting for a draw. This game and one simultaneous other game I'm playing are my first two games of Diplomacy ever --- board or online ---, so, like England, I am perfectly fine with drawing. Shame to see such an exciting game come to an end, but it has been a pleasure.

17 Mar 18 UTC It was great playing with you! Also an early game for me, and this has been the most exciting one yet.
17 Mar 18 UTC Sorry to be the demise of this game. Perhaps I will see you all online this summer. It has been a pleasure.

I still think the Eastern powers have the edge in this one. Great game.

The Frog.
17 Mar 18 UTC Good game everyone. An undeserved draw on my part.
