06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Pacific-Russia]:Eastern Russia is such a bad starting pos
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Near-East]:look at the bright side, at least you arent in africa
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Pacific-Russia]:Hahaha thanks
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Oz]:east Russia is good if you move yak-SoO; that gets you japan
the other nice thing is that it is almost impossible for anyone else to attack you
that's been my exp, anyway
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [South-Africa]:Or you move army Vlad to Hei & fleet to Vlad in opening move..sets up for supported attack on Korea in autumn move. But PAC Russia isn't one of the "favoured few".
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Oz]:What do you think the "best" nations are?
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Brazil]:I'm fascinated, I haven't actually played this map much (mostly just play traditional). What are the 'favored few' countries on the global map?
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Quebec]:Quebec is the most
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Quebec]:then china then rusia.

06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Brazil]:Cool, thanks!
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [South-Africa]:Brazil and Argentina can do very well in this, usually when one defeats the other quickly, or in an alliance
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [South-Africa]:Same with Kenya, Libya and Ghana
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Quebec]:agree about brazil/argentina
but brazil has a unfair placement advantage
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [South-Africa]:Yes, it's usually Brazil that does well. I've had a lot of experience with Classic Diplomacy, but not much with World. One thing with these low points World games is there's often players who "give up" at the start/ first few moves, and so there's a bit of luck. If for example your neighbour gives up, plays badly you can get easy, quick growth. Or it's your rival who gets that early advantage
06 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [South-Africa]:For example, there's less than one hour left and Europe and China haven't put in orders. If Europe misses these orders the that gives Russia an advantage, and there's little doubt that the design of the game gives Russia an advantage compared to PAC Russia. So if China gets orders in and Europe does not, then PAC Russia is disadvantaged.
Still the test of a player is not when it's easy, it's when it's tough, and "Diplomacy" is the key, making alliances
07 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Libya]:I am going offline for a week with only sporadic internet access at best so requesting a Pause please. Thanks.
07 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 2000: [Near-East]:libya, don't go! i need you!
07 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 2001: [Quebec]:my pause vote is in. have fun
08 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 2001: [Oz]:my experience has been that once a 17-player game is paused, it will never be unpaused

i'll vote pause, but only if ALL of us agree to restart the game
08 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 2001: [Near-East]:i personally agree to restart the game
