04 Feb 16 UTC Spring, 2000: [Russia]:Gday everyone
04 Feb 16 UTC Spring, 2000: [USA]:Hi, have fun everybody !
04 Feb 16 UTC Spring, 2000: [USA]:Hi, have fun everybody !
08 Feb 16 UTC Autumn, 2001: [Near-East]:Looks like a USA-Brazil-Argentina alliance. Rare, and powerful.
11 Feb 16 UTC Autumn, 2002: [Europe]:it's europe :P
11 Feb 16 UTC Autumn, 2002: [Europe]:it's europe :P
11 Feb 16 UTC Autumn, 2002: [Europe]:it's europe :P
11 Feb 16 UTC Autumn, 2002: [Quebec]:Welcome back!
26 Feb 16 UTC Autumn, 2006: [China]:props to europe for staying alive this long lol
01 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2007: [Ghana]:Well, USA waving the white flag when he still has eight flipping units is going to help out the Quebec-China alliance greatly.

(I guess I can't really complain, though, as Libya's initial no-show certainly aided my rise to power)
01 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2007: [China]:And I guess that doesn't help the Antarctica-Ghana alliance, as Antarctica moves in against USA...
01 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2007: [China]:...or should I say the Ghana-Antarctica-near east-russia alliance
01 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2007: [Quebec]:Yeah. He won't answer me anymore...I'm not really sure why he stabbed me tobegin with. Doing that put Ghana in the driver's seat for sure.
01 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2007: [Ghana]:Yeah, it was a very poor choice. He told me that he was giving up on this game in our private press, so needless to day I am not thrilled lol.
11 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2009: [USA]:I just took over for the USA, sorry for the previous owner.
11 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2009: [Quebec]:Welcome! And goodbye, you just lost your last center.
12 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2009: [Frozen-Antarctica]:Ouch.
12 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2009: [Quebec]:Boy, do I feel sheepish. I misread the season.
15 Mar 16 UTC Spring, 2010: [Near-East]:Has China left the building?
15 Mar 16 UTC Spring, 2010: [China]:Sorry my bad.
15 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2010: [Near-East]:I was wondering.
20 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [China]:I am the new ruler of China! Bow to me or be executed! (or just draw with me, y'all seriously need to stop with the murdering, okay?)
21 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Near-East]:Well, I will draw with China.
21 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Frozen-Antarctica]:Yep, time to pivot back to Ghana.
21 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Ghana]:Sorry, guys, figured I had to take a shot at it. I'll be curious to see if you guys can force the draw. I would like to think that I'm in a very solid position to get this solo bid through, but we'll see what happens!
21 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Frozen-Antarctica]:I didn't realize you needed 44 to win. We still have a chance.
21 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Ghana]:I certainly agree. It will definitely be a race to the finish.
21 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Russia]:If we could see it coming I would have been surprised if you didn't try.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Near-East]:If we force the draw, Ghana, you must not be in it. There cannot be a situation where a player is allowed to shoot for solo and have a no-cost alternative of drawing. That is a moral hazard. You need to have to clear alternatives. o for all or nothing, or accept the draw that was part of the deal from the beginning.
China, I will not in any way continue to aggress you.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Frozen-Antarctica]:China is in a weird spot. We need our forces to go after Ghana, but China is kind of blocked out of that engagement.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [China]:I can just withdraw from your borders until we decide it's safe to restart the festivities, if that makes you happy. I can think of plenty of maneuvers to keep myself occupied
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [China]:Also, Near-East, I take your meaning and have therefore uncast my draw vote
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Ghana]:I'm very confused by your logic Near East. You'd seriously waste twenty years worth of time in this game to eliminate me because I went for a solo bid? I don't see that happening. Isn't the point of this game to attempt the solo?
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Near-East]:No. Look at my player history. I play to end games with more points than I started.
If the purpose of a game is to solo, then all negotiations and alliances are, in essence, lies however one cast them. They are all manipulations to cause alliance partners to fail so that you succeed. That is no alliance at all, but simply manipulation. Playing to end the game with more points that one starts allows for honest negotiations and partnerships.
If you want to solo, so be it. You will likely succeed. But please do not justify doing so with the, "but everybody does it!" logic of claiming that it is the point of the game. If you make it the point of the game, then it is the point of the game for you. For me, I prefer diplomacy, seeking win-win outcomes, uniting against common foes, a test of wills.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Ghana]:Honest question for you, then. How do you win a game of diplomacy?
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Ghana]:Also, your player history indicates that you do have a solo victory, so that would seem a little bit counter-intuitive considering your claims.

I would also dispute that all of my negotiations and alliances have been 'lies' in this game. I was fairly dedicated to my plan of being in a three-way alliance with Europe and the Near East. When Europe bailed, I switched my alliance to Russia, and I had every intention of pursuing a four-way draw. However, in the last two years, when I made rapid advances in North America and saw that the solo was going to be open due to an inability to break through China; I decided that it was certainly worth a shot.

Like I said, if you guys can stop me, kudos to you. It will take some miraculous guesswork on your part and perfect coordination. But, I think saying that you'll be able to kick me out of a draw is a bit naive. If you stop me from soloing, it will be because you have me stalemated, and I think you will have tremendous difficulty breaking through that line, too.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Near-East]:Thank you for pointing out the solo in my record. That is the one that taught me the lesson that winning means ending with more points than one started.
I agree that you have the upper hand, and it may not be possible to stop you, but this does not change the calculus in trying to stop you. It is a character issue. You certainly can, and appear to be trying to, solo. I doubt that you can be stopped. I will try, however.
Also, claiming to have every intention of drawing except that an opportunity arose for you to solo is the very definition of opportunistic. You had every intention of drawing ... unless you saw a chance to solo. Call it what it is. You want to solo. You want to deny your alliance partners any points. There it is. So be it. To couch it in other terms is, at best, misguided and at worst disingenuous.
Soloing is more important to you than honoring your commitments. Period. End of story. You have no need to justify it further.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Ghana]:Well, I'm sorry that my definition of winning is in line with the rules of the game. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but don't act like your way of playing this game is superior lol.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Near-East]:Not superior, just more honest. Really, you have nothing to defend if you feel that you are doing the right thing.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Quebec]:If you guys would have listened to me when I still had units, maybe his solo wouldn't be inevitable. Just like I said.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Quebec]:Also, I 100% agree with Ghana. I'll draw if that's the best option, but if I can get a solo, I'll take it. If winning is getting more coins than you had, a solo is winning on a greater scale.

I think we all go into Diplomacy knowing that all agreements are valid until they are not.
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Ghana]:So you seriously haven't lied to anyone this entire game?
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Ghana]:Sorry, I should just recognize that we have irreconcilable differences when it comes to the playing of this game. More power to you for being "honest."
22 Mar 16 UTC Autumn, 2011: [Near-East]:No worries.
23 Mar 16 UTC Spring, 2012: [Ghana]:Well, good game all. That should about wrap it up if I'm not mistaken
24 Mar 16 UTC [Near-East]:Yes, indeed.
24 Mar 16 UTC [Frozen-Antarctica]:Good game.
24 Mar 16 UTC [Russia]:gg
24 Mar 16 UTC [Ghana]:Good game all!
25 Mar 16 UTC [China]:gg homiez
