10 Apr 14 UTC I wanted a draw Austria. Don't understand why you wouldn't take out turkey. A simple A const to Smyrna followed by F Aegean to const would have got him. 4 way instead of 3 way sucks.
10 Apr 14 UTC You tell him Italy, if it had been you I'm sure you would have been brilliant, that Austria was rubbish ..... that 4 way draw sucks so bad. Maybe next time try winning the game, then you don't have to worry about all these crap players letting you down :-)
10 Apr 14 UTC I agree, Italy ... Austria should never have gotten into that awkward position, and once there should have extracted himself ... there were at least two ways that he could string together moves to make it a 3-way. But given his record, I expect he knew that.
10 Apr 14 UTC I also wanted a three-way draw rather than a four-way draw, but it would have taken another couple of turns before it might have become plausible again. Once you moved fleets aggressively towards me in the Med, there was a serious solo threat, especially after building F Nap. I would have been happy to eliminate Turkey and take the three-way, but wasn't going to risk the solo in order to let it happen.

From the current position on the board, you have something very close to a forced solo, and quite possibly simply a solo. It's very difficult to see how we can defend Edi, Hol, Nwy, Swe, Den, StP against you.

The moment you no longer had a probable solo, of course I would have turned around and eliminated Turkey. If you had backed off for a turn or two, it would have happened. Backing off to make you no longer a solo threat doesn't mean you have to set draw, after all -- you can simply back off because you're too threatening and then we have a draw. I convoy Bul -Smy the moment I don't need the fleets elsewhere. But, obviously I set my draw flag, so I was risking having you accept the 4-way as part of the cost of preventing the solo.
10 Apr 14 UTC I'll also admit that I was intentionally a bit slow in taking out Turkey, and could definltey have done so a year or two earlier. I didn't because the moment Turkey was out of the game, it was going to be a dead three-way draw, while as long as he was still around, there was the possibility that you'd race with me for a solo. If you had unlocked Munich for me, for example, it would have left open a solo possibility for me as well as for you, in addition to a couple of possible, if somewhat tricky, 17/17 splits. I judged from the board that you were likely to want to try that race, especially given that you'd have a structural advantage as long as I didn't make it to Kiel. I was wrong, and it should have cost me giving up a solo, I fear. :) I was more fortunate than I deserved that the mistakes I made didn't.

Anyway, well played - would love to play y'all again sometime.
10 Apr 14 UTC I loved having you as an ally Austria. It was a fun game. Don't want to give the wrong impression.

I don't see any possibility I get a solo, or even threaten it. I understand your hesiation, but I was never in any position to go for it. It would have taken me far to long to move on you. In fact, my last two phases weren't even moves TOWARDS you, Austria, as much as they were trying to prevent a solo for you. The way I see the board you were the only real threat.

You could have taken out Turkey, prevented Germany from entering into Moscow, and had builds ready to move on me easily. I couldn't have done anything because my fleets were way around the ionian. I was stretched far to thin to think solo at all, imo.

Nevertheless, good game all.

Turkey you suck. :) Enjoy the undeserved draw.
10 Apr 14 UTC Good analyses both. I kept going back and forth trying to prevent either of you from soloing easily and was hoping for Turkey's demise and a 3-way. Glad to see Austria was deliberate about keeping him alive.
10 Apr 14 UTC warthog I only got the draw because you pressed the DRAW button you jerk so whether I deserved it or not can I just thank you very much for pressing that DRAW button ...... if you had not pressed that DRAW button Austria could have killed me off, so stop your whining you twat !!
10 Apr 14 UTC You didn't need to take any centers from me to solo -- you just needed to hold Venice, Naples, and Tunis. The threat is that as long as you hold those centers, I'm locked out of contesting any of your other current ones, plus Edi, Nwy, Swe, StP, Den, Hol, Kie, and that's 19. You're very close to cracking the German defense, at which point you're going to get those 19, and the only way to prevent that is for me to force you to keep three fleets in the Med, so that you don't have enough fleets to break a line of BAR/Nwy/SKA/Den/BAL/Kie/Mun. That's also what A Fin is doing.

My solo threat comes from taking all of Italy plus Munich (if I take StP I lose it eventually, but Munich can be held from the south). So, in fact if you wanted a two-way draw, you can probably get one by winning the race to Munich, then ignoring the south until Germany's cracked. If I pick up Italy, it ends as a 17-17 draw, as long as you get about 15 units on the board before you have noplace left to build. If I don't pick up Italy quickly, you likely win, and if I pick it up too quickly, then I have a window to race for StP before you get there, and might win if Germany chooses to prioritize defending against you rather than me.

But, realistically I was never going to be the strongest solo threat simply because I was locked out of getting very much larger than I currently was. My best solo chance was to support Germany against you and race him for Iberia, and I had planned on doing so in the midgame until he randomly wandered into Vienna. Once that happened, it convinced me that I didn't trust him to get the resulting balance of power calculation right in the endgame, so I didn't have anybody to work with that left me with a shot at a solo.
