Communism
I just recently realized that I know next to nothing about the main Communist writers. I have read Marx, and know the general principles of Marxism and Communist ideals, but I have no idea of the differences between Marx, Engels, Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, Mao, Tito or Kim il Sung's particular interpretations of Marxist philosophy.

Could anyone care to explain to me in very brief terms the main differences between these, or could you link me to something I ought to read?

Woodrow Wilson question
Hi there, we have an anonymous "public chat only" game wherein one player is spamming the chat with blank space to prevent the rest of us making plans. Would it be within the rules to provide my username to the other players so that they can send me private messages under these circumstances? What if these messages were also copied word for word and pasted in the chat room? Just looking for a method of communicating under these circumstances.

Thanks.

Agreed in full.
As they say "Only the survivors tell the story". And I honestly can't see him surviving this, even if he comes out with his hands up; so we'll probably never know the full extent of what really happened.

The cabin he was allegedly pinned in has been burned to the ground, and the police have opened all the roads to and from the mountain. They seem to believe they killed Dorner.

But there was some rumor going round the mountain that Dorner had slipped away and stolen a police car earlier in the afternoon.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
13 Feb 13 UTC
I wouldn't be surprised if he slid out. Only seems logical - give yourself space by setting the thing on fire. I also wouldn't be surprised if he burned himself to a crisp, but what do I know.. check on the story in the morning.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
13 Feb 13 UTC
The fire started about three hours after the firefight, they probably had 500 cops surrounding the cabin by the time the fire started. If he slipped away, it would've been during the firefight earlier in the day.
Draugnar (0 DX)
13 Feb 13 UTC
If he did die in the cabin, they will find remains (a cabin fire isn't hot enough to turn a human skeleton to ash) and if they are lying, they will claim he was consumed and nothing was left. We will see which it is. The third possibility is they will pull out a burned corpse and claim.they can't get DNA or that they have nothing to match it to which is also bull on both counts. If it is him, they will have a corpse and a DNA match.

I'm really saddened that this piece of shit murderer is getting all this sympathy from internet idiots. I can't think of a positive story about the LAPD since Dragnet was relevant, but nothing justifies these murderers. The termites have gotten pretty far if people can hold a man like this in anything but contempt. He's killed four people so far, two of them in cold blood. I don't know if that makes him a serial killer or a spree killer, but I do know it makes him evil and those who are making him into some sort of folk hero ought to be ashamed.
Draugnar (0 DX)

I don't think anyone here is hero-worshipping him. Most if not all of us have said he had no excuse for going on a killing spree. But the fact is, the LAPD is glad hr is dead if he did die because now there is no first hand evidence of their corruption. So who is worse? The murderers who perjured themselves to cover up their crimes then persecuted and eventually murdered the whistle blower or the whistle blower who was pushed until he cracked and murdered four people himself?
SYnapse (0 DX)
13 Feb 13 UTC
If Dorner had gone to war with the LAPD he might have earned some of my sympathy. But the fact that he's targeting not just cops, but families of cops, including children (stated in his manifesto), makes him despicable, and he greatly overestimated his military abilities and is now a burnt corpse.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
13 Feb 13 UTC
Again, like Draugnar said, nobody is giving him "respect." People are simply saying that the purpose behind his motives was real. His motives may have been uncalled for - nobody is saying that killing anyone is right - but the purpose is there. The LAPD is not a clean organization and it needs to be if it wants to maintain the hope that this kind of thing doesn't happen again in the future. Hopefully Dorner gets his wish and they change.
Draugnar (0 DX)

To the fmilies of the KAPD, both living and dead, I have sympathy. To the members of the LAPD that set him up and perjured themselves, I have none. To him, I had a lot until he started killing people, then I had sympathy to his cause, but not his ways. I'm that way with Palestine. I have sympathy to their cause, but the PLO and other terrorist organizations trying to get that freedom from Israel are going about it the wrong way. They should let Israel kill them without fighting back and get world sympathy for their cause. Israel would sudennly find herself alone.

Of course, that's easy to say when it isn't my life on the line.

I hate cop killers, and I have no sympathy for Dorner or his alleged fate.

That being said, this whole thing fails the smell test. This case needs to be independently investigated from all angles, particularly the circumstances of his forced resignation from the LAPD as well as being declared a "domestic terrorist"

A "terrorist" [n] is someone "who uses terrorism in the pursuit of political aims." A "domestic terrorist" in this context would be a terrorist from the United States operating in the United States. A violently angry, homicidal man with a grudge who went on a relatively brief killing spree is *not* a domestic terrorist under any definition of domestic terrorist that I am aware of.

The domestic use of drones, even if for surveillance purposes only, opens a big can of worms that should not be opened. Drones belong over the battlefield, not over Main Street. I have serious moral and legal misgivings of using drones on fellow Americans. How long do you think it will be before law enforcement drones are armed and the bold line between police and military undergoes a de facto dissolution.
Draugnar (0 DX)

"I hate cop killers" if you can call the LAPD cops.Thugs with badges. Organized crime commiting murders with state backing. These are much more apt descriptions of the LAPD.
krellin (80 DX)
13 Feb 13 UTC
Annnnddddd...instead of even trying to arrest the guy, they kill him within hours of finding out where he is. No surrounding the cabin, no seige...just come in guns a-blazing and set the place on fire (they learned THAT one form good ole' Janet Reno and the Clinton Administration...)

So for all his *demented* supporters out there, he has just become a martyr...and he has proven the point that the LAPD is corrupt to the core...
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

The LAPD *is* a bunch of thugs with badges. The LAPD is an embarrassment to law enforcement. The 1992 LA Riots and the recent shooting of two uninvolved elderly women for driving the same make/model/color truck as Dorner come to mind.

That being said, they are still human beings with families. Crooks? Yes. Evildoers who deserve a bullet to the brainbox? No.

I agree with krellin, this is eerily familiar to the Ruby Ridge and the Waco sieges, albeit less dramatic and probably marginally more justified.

Bo - you are SUCH a fucking moron and ill-informed to boot.

First, if you equate war to police burning down a fucking house WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING who is in it - you are a fucking moron.

Second, no less than Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, all the leaders of the Democrat party AND all of the intelligence agencies of all of our allies said Saddam Hussien had WMD's...AND Saddam Husseien USED Chemical weapons on the Kurds...i.e. it is a proven, demonstrable FACT that Iraw possessed WMD's. So don't be a fucking ignorant jackass and go back to that bullshit lie. Moron.

I won't even go into Hussien's constant violations of United Nations Security Council Resolutions. Regardless of 9/11, Hussien was leading his country to war...perhaps you forget he invaded a neighboring country and was under UN Sanctions because of this. But...I know...history is hard, isn't it...that reading and comprehending....that's really difficult stuff for little brainwashed kids...

Yonni- If little Boy Bo wants to pay with the big boys, then Little Boy Bo either needs to get his facts straight, or shut the fuck up. He does neither.

Maybe your statement should be:

"That moment you realize that Bo is another pathetic loud-mouthed high school kid that demonstrates the utter failure of his left-wing education...."
krellin (80 DX)
15 Feb 13 UTC
You think that just because Little Boy Bo is in high school he should be allowed to hold on to lies and demented thinking? Apparently you are an example of the same rotten education in which teacher say, "Oh...well....he tried....I guess that's all the counts..." and ignores right versus wrong...

And bo - again, as he always does - is completely incapable of backing up anything he says. He prefers to live in his sad, delusional world of misinformation and lies.

I pity you. The sad thing is obviously acknowledge you are wrong -- you consistently fail to ever back up anything you say -- and yet knowing you are wrong, you also refuse to attempt to educate yourself, maybe admit you are wrong like a big boy. Your mommy and daddy should really sue your school district and demand to get their taxes back.

Was it worth all the money spent going into Iraq though? Honestly I say let the Middle East fix itself and lets worry about the problems at home first and foremost.
The man is a cold blooded killer and no evidence supports the fact that what he said happened happened If you believe him you want to believe him for whatever reason. Who knows, he could, but since when have we given the benefit of the doubt to people who hunt down completely innocent people in cold blood.

@Celtic - Was it worth the money? Yes. Keeping oil reasonably priced saved way more than we spent on the wars in the Middle East. What it hasn't been worth is the loss of.our soldiers' lives and civilian life in the region.
Tolstoy (1962 D)

"since when have we given the benefit of the doubt to people who hunt down completely innocent people in cold blood."

Every time a police officer guns down an unarmed man and says "I fired in self-defense when I observed the subject reaching for his waistband".

"The man is a cold blooded killer"

True dat.

"no evidence supports the fact that what he said happened happened"

If you are referring to his claims revolving around the use of force incident that resulted in his termination, we have the word of the alleged victim of police brutality, and the word of the father of said victim. We also have photographs of the alleged victim showing he had suffered injury consistent with the claim that he had been kicked. In addition, Dorner's claims that several police witnesses to the incident gave testimony that was inconsistent with facts are easily verified, as are Dorner's claims that members of the review board were friends with Dorner's FTO.

WRT his broader claims of widespread brutality, racism, and corruption in LAPD, the history of these phenomena in LAPD is so well documented I think anyone who believes Dorner made all that up is either painfully ignorant or delusional.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
15 Feb 13 UTC
"Yeah, and Bush didn't lead thousands of soldiers into the wrong country. No harm no foul."

Why is it that in American political discourse, when someone points out that the regime of Politician A murdered nearly a hundred people, the response is not to condemn or even acknowledge that but to point out that Politician B murdered more? Am I the only one that finds this disturbing?
"
WRT his broader claims of widespread brutality, racism, and corruption in LAPD, the history of these phenomena in LAPD is so well documented I think anyone who believes Dorner made all that up is either painfully ignorant or delusional. "

Funny, I think someone who believes a man who goes on a murderous rampage who kills innocent people and is obviously not all there is painfully ignorant or delusional...
Tolstoy (1962 D)
15 Feb 13 UTC
Aha! So there is no brutality, racism, or corruption in LAPD. Now that that puzzle piece has been found, everything makes a lot more sense. Thanks for setting us all straight, Santa!
yes, because that is exactly what I said, right...
what was your line?

I'll talk to you when you are willing to seriously discuss an issue...
"Since he made these charges while still on the force and before he flipped out and started killing innocent people."

Or he was always a psychopath and the accusations were a symptom of a disorder that led to him to go on a rampage. A paranoid psychopath who found a perfect target in the LAPD

Los Angeles is no less corrupt than it was before... no $1,000,000 reward from the mayor's office and no $100,000 reward from the cops. Cute... it's like they are trying to make Dorner look right in his motives.
