I don't really do EOGs as I do have the recall some players do. But here is the game link should one or more of them wish to bitch about the game.

Two Questions about the Forum that I couldn't find in the help
1) If you mute a thread, is there any way to unmute it?
2) At what point do your posts and Threads move to the link that you can click on from your profile? They seem to be several weeks old. Is it a page count thing? or a timing thing?

Presidential amnesty
Our beloved universal genius, Master of the Universe and president of the Czech Republic, Tunnelgramps Václav Klaus recently ordered an amnesty for 1/3 of all prisoners to celebrate 20 years since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia he so masterfully orchestrated. Another 500 pardons are in the pipes as well, gotta help the pals out before his time in the office runs out.

The sciences
A recent post by dubmdell on the beauty of science struck me as being rather eloquent. It paused me to stop and think what the relative proportion of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students were across our various countries. In the UK in 2010, for example, there were 12,000 psychology and 10,000 history graduates. Chemistry and physics had 2,400 and 2,200 respectively.

Republicans defend the rich
I am from Europe, so I don't know much about American politics. I always thought that the GOP is for the hard working people. But it seems more and more that they just defend the rich. Sounds stupid to me, is a rather sure way to loose votes.

Trigger Laws
These are laws which do nothing unless certain conditions are first met.

So some (US) states will automatically ban abortion if Roe V Wade is overturned; or automatically ban human cloning if it becomes possible to achieve; however i really like the following rule: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact

The Greatest (Love) Story Ever Told?
It's not "Romeo and Juliet"...surely we all agree?
It's not "La Boheme," however much I love that opera.
It's not "Les Miserables" (at least not the musical/film version, two lines and BAM! instant, undying love between Marius and Cosette...lol!)
So...what is it--triumphant, comedic or tragic, as we approach the romance of New Years', what IS The Greatest Love Story Ever Told?

Autumn 19XX Retreats
If a player earns their 18th center, the game ends. The game does not progress into the retreats phase; it simply ends. If someone can retreat into a center of the winning player, the game will still end. I understand that once you hit 18 centers the game is over, but my belief is that retreats are a part of the season in which they follow. If they are, shouldn't they go through, even if the player has gotten 18 centers?
Its an inconsistency between wbedip and the original rules that we just have to live with
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
02 Jan 13 UTC
It's worth discussing though, is it not? Are the retreats a part of the seasonal phase or are they their own phase in the game?
they are part of autumn, this site does not follow the exact rules of the game but i doubt it will change
Alderian (2425 D(S))

It is very clear cut that the webdip code does this wrong. It has been discussed on the dev forum. It is not simple to resolve though without very often having an unnecessary retreat phase when a retreat won't cause a change in supply centers, so for now nothing has been done about it.

This shows up on the forums once every 3 months or so, not quite as frequently as the message icon on gunboat games with banned players, or wrong movements allowed or not allowed on the variant maps and other similar things.

Been talled about numerous times in the past but unless you are a PHP expert and want to dedicate the time.to overhauling the game processing engine, it won't be fixed any time soon as the number of occurrences is extremely low andbtye cost benefit analysis is little benefit for tremendous time.cost.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
02 Jan 13 UTC
I know it's been discussed; I've been around awhile. I'm sorry, developers et al, but I don't find "it's hard to do" to be a viable excuse for not doing it if it's part of the real game.
damian (675 D)
02 Jan 13 UTC
I think its less, a case of "its hard to do" and more a case of "doing so would take a lot of time, and there are more important things to focus on"

If it bugs you so much you should write some code for it bo.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

My knowledge of coding is about as deep as my knowledge of the social structure of Uzbekistan.

If there are more important things to focus on, what might they be? Multi's and CDs aren't about to go away. Dedicate a moment and at the very least make a decision.
damian (675 D)
02 Jan 13 UTC
I don't know exactly what they are focusing on. Myself being a time strapped player. I do know where to find that information though, This thread: http://forum.webdiplomacy.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=825 details what they are working on for the next release of the webdiplomacy software.

@bo - If you don't have the knowledge to do it yourself then you clearly have no business telling the folls who donate their time doimg the development on a free site what their priorities shoild be. So learn PHP and do it yourself or STFU.

"if it's part of the real game."

And yet we are conducting diplomacy during retreats, cannot create an invalid order or spy on other people's conversations. As long as it's publicly known that this is how webDiplomacy works, you should play accordingly. We are not playing Diplomacy but webDiplomacy, a very well-made approximation of Diplomacy, not verbatim copy of it.

Okay, Draug. I guess I shouldn't vote in elections either since I've never been in a political office before. I shouldn't petition for women's and minority equality because I'm not a woman and I'm white. Because I have no knowledge in coding, I shouldn't make a suggestion that involves coding. That's simple logic. If you don't know it yourself, don't look for someone else that does; instead, just keep your worries to yourself.

+1 trip.

@bo - Making a suggestion is different from demanding the change. This isn't a fucking democracy and the developers here (unlike the politicians you elect) aren't *paid* to fulfill your demands. They are volunteers and can tell you to fuck off anytime they want and you can go pound salt up your ass for all they care.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Jan 13 UTC
And bo, I was referring to your demand when I referred to your telling the people who volunteer their time to do it. It wasn't a counterargument. It was a fucking demand.
