I recently graduated from college, and while I'm fortunate enough to have a job I nevertheless have a lot of free time now, especially on weeknights. I'm working and living at home for a year to save money for law school. I really enjoyed the game Victoria and thought about getting in on the sequel which came out a year or so ago.

I figured some of you on here have played Victoria II. From the research I've done it seems to have an extremely ahistorical AI. In Victoria I would often cheat to make sure, say, Britain didn't get provinces in Finland after the Crimean War since that stuff bothered me so much. I found a mod which would take care of that concern (mostly) but would still like all of your opinions on whether the game as a whole is worth it.

I got it, played it for about 2 hours (as Sicily), then got bored with it. It seems to be just Vicky1 with improved graphics and less micromanaging - which means the AI makes a lot of stupid decisions you had to make for yourself before.

But was it worse than the original? I hear that Italy and Germany never form, but that may have been fixed.

I think its pretty good, when I play I havent gotten Germany to fully form as AI but it has turned into the Federated German States

I appreciate the thought Bob Genghiskhan, but I have thought a lot about this. The profession isn't as lucrative as it was (or was imagined to be) in the past. But I was never in interested in doing this for million dollar mesothelioma cases or whatever.

You need skills besides being a glorified document reader and not too much debt than you can plausibly handle after graduation. I have the first and could have the latter if I apply myself. I'd also be in the class of 2016. Who knows what wonders a President Romney may have wrought by then?

Yeah the AI can be a bit weird at times. Also, speaking as someone who hasn't played Vicky or Vicky 2, I'd play EU 3 first, it is possibly the least complicated Paradox game (though that's not saying much).

Yes, the AI is not really historical but that's the design philosophy of paradox post-EU2, to make the games more sandboxy and less heavyhandedly streamlined like in EU2. Fun mods for Vicky II are Realism&Rebalance (more realistic economy etc.), Empire (extended timeline etc.) and Divergences (counterfactual history). I for one am happy the microhell is away compared to Vicky I.

I've played eu3 (up to IN expansion) and vicky2 and must say I prefer EU3 much more.

I just couln't get around some of the weirdness and bugs of vicky
