A proposal:
Anyone with over 100 games completed and a 25%+ resignation rate gets their account revoked. That's simply a ludicrous amount of contempt for the other players on this site. I'd rather play against multis than someone who resigns that damn often.

Draugnar (0 DX)

Revoking/banning is too severe as it punishes others who happen to be in games with them. However, revoking their priviledge to join or create new games would be in order.
Sargmacher (0 DX)

Sargmacher and Draugnar have spoken.
Or at the very least revoke their privilege to join anonymous games.

guess i am out then Bob. LMAO
OK, there's two people whose responses I don't especially get.

1. Sargmacher-What do you mean by "Pot. Kettle." Are you implying that I CD in one out of every four games that I enter? Or anywhere fucking close to it?

2. Sydney City, what do you mean, you're out? You've got under a 5% resign rate.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
23 Jun 12 UTC
Not close to it, no. But you have CDed from a number of games you've entered recently. I just don't think you have much of a platform to start criticising others when you yourself are not perfect and have a well-tarnished record on this issue.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
23 Jun 12 UTC
Okay, well, I'm perfect and have a good record on this issue, and I support doing something about it. Not necessarily a full ban, but maybe some kind of penalty as Draug said.
No, Sarg, I NMR'd a couple of turns in one game. A game where I wasn't the first person to NMR, also. I note you have some resigneds on your record as well. So you can climb on down from Mt. Pious any time now.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
23 Jun 12 UTC
I'm not on Mt Pious, Bob. I'm not preaching about how people with resigns should be punished. That is you.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
23 Jun 12 UTC
Anyway, my comment was meant jokingly and I did follow it with a 'Sorry Bob.'

You have chosen to take this personally and respond bitterly. I'm sorry for that, as I was just joking in my initial comment.
Sydney City (0 DX)
23 Jun 12 UTC
i was kidding- yea its 2% and theyre from live games when net connection crashed:)
@Sarg, I had no idea as to what sense you meant your statements. Given the nature of the internet, I usually tend to take people as meaning what they write unless there's some sort of indicator otherwise. So, bad communication on my part to assume.
CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))

I think part of the problem is keeping track of resigns that turn into defeats; resigns that don't are the only one that's marked, after all. But, if we're not going to allow people starting games to set requirements that bar likely CDers, then yes, at some point we should make it clear that they're not welcome here. This is a place for people who want to play Diplomacy, not people who want to start Diplomacy.
2ndWhiteLine (2736 D(B))

I'll counter with my more modest proposal: any player who CDs gets eaten.
spyman (424 D(G))

I think Bob has a point. Who would want to play a game with someone with such a high resign rate? I would be in favoured of some kind of penalty system.
Bbrett93 (100 D)
24 Jun 12 UTC
Or maybe the creator of any game that they join has the power to veto their joining of the game?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
24 Jun 12 UTC
I think they could simply have their points taken and force them to earn some. The only way to earn points to enter games is by actually playing them.

Password-protecting a game and recruiting via the forum is always a good way to get a quality group while excluding players that are likely to NMR/CD.
The only drawback is the overhead setting that up and restricting the player pool to those that use the forum.

I think that banning players for only NMR/CDs would be too harsh. Wherever one draws that line would come with controversy.

On VDip, they have reliability rating feature and NMR count.
That means it is quite feasible for such a feature to find its way into this website, given that the code exists, is already on GitHub, and is really only matter of a cleaned up pull request for Kestas to accept.

I'm not that familiar with VDip, so maybe this already exists, but a potentially nice feature to go along with reliability ratings/NMR counts would be the ability to restrict games along the lines of "players with reliability rating > X". This would make it easy to ensure a certain level of reliability without having to resort to recruiting via the forum and dealing with the overhead and restrictiveness of using a password.

100 games and over 25% resign rate? I never realised we had players so repulsive. I'd be in favour of an option that allows you to block players from joining a game with a resign rate equal or exceeding 10% (or totalling more than 3 resigned games if under 10 have been played).

For the worst offenders some sort of extreme punishment is demanded. I recommend we force them to take membership of Playdip.

I hear vdiplomacy has a reliability rating for each player and an option to set minimum reliability ratings to be able to join a game.
F4shark (490 D)

I guess there are some situations that a player is not able to connect to the Internet and punch in moves for numerous reasons... We shouldn't be hunting for witches either...the reliable rating is a good thing as Lando suggest, but on the other hand a rewarding scheme would be in place. New players start off with a low reliability rate and gaan privileges along the way? After all WebDip is looking for returning players and not the one day butterflies...
Octavious, check out terry32smith's stats some time. They're not pretty.

Possibly stupid newbie question?
I joined last week, I've signed up for 5 or 6 games, and every time except 1 I've been England. What determines that? Coincidence?

Too Rich for my Blood?
Hey. It seems like a lot of players are disinterested in playing matches where larger point values are at stake. I'm trying to understand this. Until I do, I'm curious what everyone views as an acceptable upper limit for betting? Obviously, most players would probably be okay with a 4-point buy in. But how about 24? 64? What do you feel is a comfortable betting range for an Anonymous match?

Resorting to pure chaos when the game is lost for you?
Leaving names out so it doesn't turn into a grudge battle, what do people think of simply unbalancing the game when your own position is unwinnable? This occurred in a match I played recently, and to me seems like a viable strategy, particularly in non-anonymous games. If a player has a reputation for being purely vindictive in defeat, that seems like a credible deterrent. Your thoughts?

How does the Pause Option Work.?
I'm in a game and one player has been called away unexpectedly. He has asked us to pause the game until his return. He selected Pause. As far as I can tell the clock on the game is still ticking and the FAQ is not too clear on the complete run-down.

Can one player pause the game or do a majority of players in the game have to select it as an option? I;ve issued orders in case the game does not pause for this movement phase.

Autorefresh when turn is complete
Just got myself in trouble wacthing the clock going backwords to do my builds after a retreatment from Austria, The page didn't refresh when the retreat was ready, so, when I try to put my orders in I had only three seconds left.
Is there any way for we have a automatic refresh, otherwise we need to pass all the time clicking on teh refresh buttun? which make a 5 minute gunboat not fun.
