But that's just the thing, I have *no* interest in playing the game. Obviously, I'd feel like a kid pouting about it, but without any good way of asking my fellow players for a Cancel, I don't have too much of a choice. I could fake interest in a bowling match, or a game of pool, or something else that lasts 20 minutes or so. But playing a 3 hour "diplomacy" match is more than should be asked of me.

And for the record, the game is now entirely unfair. Since, I'm not making more than a token attempt to win, my neighbors are getting an unfair advantage. It's in everybody's best interest to cancel. It's not really a square match for anyone at this point.

It would be different if the word gunboat appeared somewhere in the title, but that wasn't the case.

Oh no, I agree. And I usually do. The two other times I joined a match accidentally, I just "sucked it up" and rolled along with it. But this one, while not actually misleading, didn't mention gunboat anywhere in the title. The mistake is easy enough to make...and with no way to explain my error to the other players...

Fortress Door: Actually, you know what? I'm not okay with resigning either. That would put a black mark on my record, and it's not like I'm really resigning, because I never joined. It's not like I was playing the game for a half hour and then decided I'd rather play xbox. I didn't join, I clicked the wrong button. It's not the same thing.

Setting up threads about an ongoing gunboat is fair play. Please dont do it again. And if you just look for one second before joining, you can clearly see the non-messaging aspect of the game in question. So if you dont like them, just dont join.

Victorious: No problem. Does anyone else see how a game with no type of press is just problematic, though? It practically begs trolling or griefing of some kind, neither of which I normally tend to associate myself with.

I'm okay with most other play options. I just have trouble playing a Diplomacy game that doesn't actually contain any, well...diplomacy. And have no good way to ask other players for a Cancel.

Titles is for tombstones or something to that effect. Gunboat is clearly marked in the options so there is no reason to be redundant inless the creator wants to. That's like complaining about the text of a contract *after* you sign it.

Then you lose the game. If the emergency is genuine, salvaging a game of diplomacy would be the last thing on your mind, right?

As stated by others, before joining a game, you should always look over the game options to make sure they are what you want.

And you didn't just accidentally click the join button. When you click on the join button there is a popup that asks you to confirm. You confirmed that you wanted to join the game. You just didn't take care to make sure the game was the right type of game for you.

I don't feel sorry for you. I feel sorry for the others who wanted to play a gunboat game and got stuck playing with someone that didn't due to your carelessness.

You made the mistake, so as the original responder said, suck it up and play it out. Maybe you'll learn something. Good luck.

I just went to the new game page, and clicked Join on a game, and got a popup that said "Are you sure you want to join this game?" If I click Cancel, then I have not joined the game.

I've signed up for live games with ten and fifteen minute phases by mistake before without reading the game details thoroughly but sucked it up. I ended up doing well in both, so you'll be better off in the end.

From what he posted, i was fairly certian he was Germany, and really all he is doing is screwing around. His opening was Munich to Burgundy, Berlin to Prussia, and Kiel holds. I would rather have the neighbors countries have to at least support themselves into the centers rather than just waltz on it. Plus, he always hit save while everyone else generally hit ready, drawing out time for no reason

The problem here is with live games and made worse in gunboats... If you don't want to play and joined by mistake you should try to find a replacement.

How better than to post in the forum (a cancel in 1901 would be what i'd expect the players to agree to, out of consideration, they've lost almost no time and can immediately start again - if a replacement can be found. Whether this is preferable to gunboaters is up to them to decide) How many cancel votes did you get?

Having looked at the game, it appears neither german's play nor this thread ruined it for you (statistically it will add to the uncertainty of results... But that's fine with me)

The draw in 1910 seems a bit early, there was a lot to ppay for. However this is likely not relevant here.
