Caricatures - Public Press game
This was one that we did a while back and I thought it was fun. A public press game where everyone assumes a stereotypical accent.

ie Austria-Hungary types like John Cleese in the phrase book skit "EYE vill nut boiy dis record, it is skretched".

Speak if you guys want. I know my first comment is: I have no idea how the hell I made this happen by pissing off all 3 of my initial enemies. This is a perfect example of how you CAN make something happen without allies...lol

LA Times, BBC News, and other outlets reporting Egypt's parliament has been dissolved by their high court while keeping a Mubarak supporter on the ballot for the Presidential Election. Thoughts?

Ive tried this in a recent gunboat game, and it actually ended up working out fairly well. Is pretending to CD a valid strategy?

Apples and oranges
I've seen a number of discussions on the forums recently comparing two positions or ideas that are too different to reach a valid conclusion about which is better. Since invalid comparisons are in vogue right now, I thought we might discuss the classic: apples vs oranges. Go!

For debate: When is a gunboat not really a gunboat?
Hey gang: I accidentally clicked onto a gunboat game and now have no real way of backing out. Others are not really being acquiescent about a Cancel, so it looks like I'm (more or less) stuck. So instead, I'm setting up this thread as a potential discussion spot for gameID=91706. If players are talking here, is it still gunboat?

dont bust up splitdiplomat bc you cant recognize when there needs to be more help at the draw line....yes the italy thing was dumb, but dont bash SD bc you didnt win.

Your lame ass is the one that cost us the game pilfering Holland and Belgium from me. did you think i was just gonna let you snoop around my lands? Come on man, he won bu seriously, Turkey CD'ed, Russia CD'ed, and Italy was incompetent. Thats pretty absurd and he seemed to have no issue mopping up on them all and we couldn't get to a draw because you had to move all yer shit to northern France for no reason.
brainbomb (295 D)
14 Jun 12 UTC
by 1904 (just look at the game if you don't believe me) Russia and Turkey had left the game so naturally we all voted draw except SD. hmmmmm
Favio (385 D)
14 Jun 12 UTC
I'm sorry....I was the only one fighting england for most of the game, and by the time you actually came around to do anything, Austria had 13 SCs, not that you were doing anything to stop it. I've played with many expert players on this site, and when there is serious draw-line problem, the players who can give up SCs do to get the damn draw. I was simply trying to help you get the draw, but apparently, I was just "sniping" your SCs. Why don't you learn the fucking game.

The only time I've played with SD, he voted draw on a 1901 CD from which he directly benefited, and only took it down when the only holdout played so incompetently that he was able to solo.

Why would Italy have moved to Naples in Autumn 1902? It makes no sense!
Hello cspieker! Allways punctual! Yes,of course,Italy was my second account, you got me! I was hoping he'll move it to Adriatic,he f... me.But after he gave me everything for free.

That's silly OP. Nothing wrong with that win. It wasn't hard, but it wasn't anything approaching unethical. You guys had like 3 years to rally and still failed to pull it off (though from a cursory glance, it does appear Brainbomb was the only one with his shit mostly together).
Heuristic: brainbomb complaining? probably nonsense

smcbride1983 (517 D)

I don't see it being unethical.
brainbomb (295 D)
14 Jun 12 UTC
I congratulated him regardless. I couldn't stop him by myself. tried like hell but I can't blame him for mopping up. Most people don't see this as an ethics issue when its their neighbors CD-ing. everyone else voting draw is usually a dead giveaway that the game has become flawed and should reach a fairer conclusion. But of course theres always someone who would rather just win and not worry about what some oaf says in the forums, honor shmonor, a win is a win. You don't become points leader on webdip by playing this game timidly or ethical.
brainbomb (295 D)
14 Jun 12 UTC
@Favio thats funny which part of the stalemate line were you holding? oh yea one peice? and meanwhile im getting blitzed on the main front? yea but I'm the one who needs to learn the game, right...so me putting my armies in Tyrolia, Bohemia, Silesia, Prussia, and trying to attack into Livonia, and supporting from Barents to Stp are all signs that I don't know the game and where stalemate lines are...

which is ironic because the stalemate line which you failed to cover was in your lands, your responsibility, and you were a faggot instead. cool story bro.

And I'm sorry but that looks like multi usage to me...who the eff moves out of centers an key positions? Sorry but something doesn't sit right in my happy tummy.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

Chuck is right, it is odd that Italy vacated Ionian like that... And then Italy took the time to destroy the two units in his home supply centers, while keeping the two that were not, only to then CD and allow his home centers to be taken unopposed... All the while Turkey sat by and sort of pretended to attack Russia for a few seasons, while Russia stayed in the game long enough to move his units north and then CD while his southern centers were easily taken... Suppose I now see why live games and gunboats are so popular, perhaps I should take them up after all, then maybe I could retake that point lead...
this isn't really standard for a live game, just fwiw
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

PE, that was just a joke about me playing live or gunboat, I don't really see the point in submitting orders against people not playing, I have better things to do...
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
14 Jun 12 UTC
haha Marx, when you put it like that it kinda changes my mind about the whole thing....
Kochevnik (1160 D)
14 Jun 12 UTC
Italy looks like he just doesn't understand the game. The more mysterious play is France, who at least demonstrated that he understands support and cutting support, etc, throughout the game, and then for some reason moves north on that last move when he could have easily held Austria at bay for another turn or two.

I don't think there's any cheating going on, but if your point is that SD benefited from some poor play/CDs from those around him, you'd get no argument from me.
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 Jun 12 UTC
Poor play is part of the game, especially in gunboat. Not everyone is good at this game and the live players fall in two categories: great gunboaters like SD and crappy noobs just wanting to play a quick game and not really knowing the intricacies. There is a thrid but they are rare: the folks like me who suck at gunboat but decide to try on ocassion anyhow.

My NHL Nightmare Season Is Complete--Kings Win the Cup
First the Ducks play up and down and then completely bottom out to 13th place...
Then the Rangers blow it...
And now...now, the worst team possible to win the Cup for a Ducks fan...great win for the Kings, they deserved it, though.
