How exactly does the CD/resign/left thing work?
From playing a bunch of live games here is how I *think* it works. Could people correct and/or clarify my myriad of assumptions listed below.
cspieker (18223 D)

1. A power is considered to have "left" if they NMR two turns in a row.

2. Once the power has "left" the order phases will no longer wait for that power to ready.

3. How does one "resign"? Is it any different than "left".

4. We are notified in the game messages that power X has gone into "Civil Disorder". Is that the exact same thing as "left"?

5. If you are pronounced "left" can you get back in the game?

In my understanding:
1: true
2: true. Additionally the power can be taken over by other players.
3: you get a resign in your stats if the game ends while you are 'left'
4: yes
5: yes

correct?
Indeed.
Draugnar (0 DX)

exactly so.

But an additional caveat. If one has "left", that position is eligible to be taken over by another player willing to spend the points to get in the game.

Can someone else take over your spot while your country is in "left" status?
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))

Yes.

@csp - See my comment posted at the same time as yours. If they have the points and the password (if it is passworded) they can grab your spot and you are SOL.

So if someone else takes over, then the orginal CDer is considered resigned, right?

Would it be possible to send out their user name in an announcement when someone resigns, sort of like it does when someone leaves the game before it starts?
Draugnar (0 DX)
18 Apr 12 UTC
No. The resign only appears if you end the game in the left state. when someone takes over, your slate is wiped clean except you don't get your points back.
Mr A (386 D)
18 Apr 12 UTC
No, you don't get your stats changed when someone else takes your country over.
Draugnar (0 DX)
18 Apr 12 UTC
As far as the notifications, I thought it did that already. I knwo it notifies you when someone is defeated, but I thought it also did when someone CDs.
cspieker (18223 D)
18 Apr 12 UTC
It notifies you which power CD'd but it doesn't identify the player. It would be nice to know sometimes who these people are that damage our games.
Draugnar (0 DX)
18 Apr 12 UTC
It does if it isn't anon. But letting you know who CD'd in an anon game would break the rules of anon games. Kind of obvious considering the person *could* come back.
cspieker (18223 D)
18 Apr 12 UTC
Agreed, that is why I was asking all these questions about "resigning" versus "left". If the person "left" and then ended up resigned, at the end of the game everyone would know who they were. But if the person left but was replaced then no one would ever know. I guess there isn't an easy workaround to that unless people were considered resigned if someone took over for them.

Thanks everyone for answering my neverending questions!

Note that if you are down to one supply center and NMR, you immediately go into Civil Disorder rather than waiting for two NMRs in a row. That is according to a thread a few weeks back.
Also, if you are eliminated while you have the 'left' status, you do not get a resign on your record, and instead get a 'defeat'.

The part that is always confusing:
An NMR is when a player doesn't sign into the game in question for a full turn.
They CAN sign into the site, just not visit the page of the game.

So, a player can log into the site, go to the page, do nothing (not read press, not enter orders, etc...) and not NMR.

Also, a player can log into the site, post on the forum, PM other players, but because they never visited the game page, CAN NMR.

Congratulations to Chanakya. But Bob, what happened in the last move there? I had Munich covered, Bur could have saved Mar, and Portugal was not in danger? I don't understand. We were just one turn away from drawing.

I saw this wonderful news article on the BBC and I thought it was worth sharing - not only because it's so ridiculous it's comedic but also because it reminded me of our resident Swede, Vaft :)

Could people please stop signing up for games and then not showing up?
I swear, every time I'm Turkey or England, people don't show up and screw thegame. If I'm Austria, though, everybody's there with bells on and eager to move to Trieste and Galicia right away.

Marxism
Marxism is fundamentally a theory of history which should entail a commitment to social change; that is, a commitment to a socialist future in which the forces of production are not owned privately as they are in capitalist societies but under common ownership.

Chelski playing Barca
And Drogzilla scores. I effing hate Chelski, but I have nothing but admiration for Drogba. It helps that they're playing Barca, who I fucking detest since their several year long campaign to stoke Fabregas' discontent. Seriously, fuck them.

Why is it that messages from a player I have muted still flash up on my home screen intermittently? Does anyone else have that? Might it be because I'm using Chrome?

Companion Grammar Thread for Losers
Out of moderate respect for ulytau's authority, I am creating a companion thread for people who have been eliminated from his other thread to keep arguing about grammar, ulytau's thread, and how unjust the universe is for disliking how they (yes, *we*... sigh) write.
