How exactly does the CD/resign/left thing work?
From playing a bunch of live games here is how I *think* it works. Could people correct and/or clarify my myriad of assumptions listed below.

EOG [LIVE] GUNBOAT " Fun Unlimited" Edition
gameID=86646

Congratulations to Chanakya. But Bob, what happened in the last move there? I had Munich covered, Bur could have saved Mar, and Portugal was not in danger? I don't understand. We were just one turn away from drawing.

I saw this wonderful news article on the BBC and I thought it was worth sharing - not only because it's so ridiculous it's comedic but also because it reminded me of our resident Swede, Vaft :)

Could people please stop signing up for games and then not showing up?
I swear, every time I'm Turkey or England, people don't show up and screw thegame. If I'm Austria, though, everybody's there with bells on and eager to move to Trieste and Galicia right away.

Marxism
Marxism is fundamentally a theory of history which should entail a commitment to social change; that is, a commitment to a socialist future in which the forces of production are not owned privately as they are in capitalist societies but under common ownership.

Chelski playing Barca
And Drogzilla scores. I effing hate Chelski, but I have nothing but admiration for Drogba. It helps that they're playing Barca, who I fucking detest since their several year long campaign to stoke Fabregas' discontent. Seriously, fuck them.

Question: Re: Muting Players
Why is it that messages from a player I have muted still flash up on my home screen intermittently? Does anyone else have that? Might it be because I'm using Chrome?
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

You muted me, you son of an ass???

And it's because the browser sometimes takes a bit more time to process the mute code.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
17 Apr 12 UTC
A script runs after the page loads to handle things like mutes and italics. Depending on the speed of your computer, you may notice muted posts before the script finishes running.

Oh ok, thanks.

But - sometimes after the page has loaded, messages from supposedly muted players occasionally flash back up on the screen. Is there any reason for that?

I have seen them return when you post a rpely to someone. That is a bug in that the reply posts using AJAX, but the repaint doesn't trigger the hide function in the javascript.

speaking of mutes, I know we can already mute threads, how about muting posts?
Poozer (962 D)

I wish we could "mute" players from joining games we created.

"I wish we could "mute" players from joining games we created. "
on vdiplomacy, that is already the case. Players you have muted can't join games you created...

That would be a really good feature. +1
dubmdell (556 D)
18 Apr 12 UTC
If such a feature were implemented, I would prefer it to be a little more refined.
1) "ban" list should be separate from those you have muted (some people I won't play with but do enjoy talking to)
2) "ban" list should hide a game where someone has already joined that you don't want to play with. The idea here being, you may not start the game, but you still don't wish to play with a particular individual.
Poozer (962 D)
18 Apr 12 UTC
Yep, I agree with you dub. We can only hope :-)
Poozer (962 D)

But it would make creating non-pw'd live games sooo much easier.
dubmdell (556 D)
18 Apr 12 UTC
Lol we might need a "special invites" list for live games if that were the case. A "hide this game from all except special invites list" option.
dubmdell (556 D)
18 Apr 12 UTC
Most of the bad live game experiences have been due to no-names signing up, which a ban list wouldn't catch because I have never encountered them before. So a "special invites list" would allow us to put even fifty users we are cool with for live games.
So, just to collate things - we'd like to have the following features:-

a) mute someone so we can't see their posts - like now.
b) deafen(?) someone so they can't see your posts.
c) ban-list someone so they can't see/join games you create or are already in (even anon games)
d) reject-list someone so you don't accidentally join (anon) games they've already joined.

Any more suggestions?

A box of my favorite cigars and a bootle of single malt highland scotch delivered to my door by a naked playboy playmate every time I win and one of my favorite cigars plus a bottle of blended scotch delivered to my office by a bikini clad playmate when I draw. Can you do that? hehehe
Draugnar (0 DX)
18 Apr 12 UTC
Better sned them to my office in both cases. Better to deal with the aftermath at the office than having my wife answer the door to find a sexy, naked woman with two of my favorite things (and I'm not talkign about the booze and cigars) asking for me.

Companion Grammar Thread for Losers
Out of moderate respect for ulytau's authority, I am creating a companion thread for people who have been eliminated from his other thread to keep arguing about grammar, ulytau's thread, and how unjust the universe is for disliking how they (yes, *we*... sigh) write.

Would anyone like to join me for some passworded 5 D gunboat games? I'd like to get as many people involved as possible for some fun gunboat games not orientated on points but that are still good quality. Add your name to the list if you're interested please. All games will be anonymous and 25 hour phase length, thank you.
