Best convoys?
Wondering which games have had convoys that stood out for being either extremely long, decisive/critical in terms of gameplay, or unexpected. Would be interested in seeing!

Help finding a thread
I'm sure some of you recall the embarrassing moments thread we had a few weeks ago? Well I have searched by google and by rote reading, page by page, and not found it. Neither did abgemacht, the sweetheart that he is, when he went searching. Any help locating it would be appreciated. I do not recall who started the thread.

Look, Foreigners, I don't hate you guys, but
Like seriously, you all have no culture. Most of you don't even make good movies. Many of you talk funny, and don't eat enough meat. Try driving an SUV, it makes you feel powerful. And seriously, what do you do for role models? I mean you don't have ANYTHING that compares to Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. Also, why can't you afford designer clothes like a real person? USA, baby. USA.

What are points for if not to play? :)

You have to be in it to win it.

You have to play higher caliber games to grow and get better.

The more you play, the better you get, the less you will fear.

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
Barn3tt (33785 D)

lol Sarg.

Its fun to work my way up in terms of what I'm willing to wager. To some extent I bet here like I do in poker, there's no point in placing all of your holdings down at once. Wait til I get over 2k... then I can be peer-pressured into playing :-)

Plus regardless of how good you are at this game, playing gunboat, at least, its pretty easy to have a bad string of games, because sometimes everyone just gangs up on you.
Sargmacher (0 D X)
09 Apr 12 UTC
I understand that completely. I don't think you're a coward not to join and you've done extremely well to build up your point base in such a short space of time.

Sometimes everyone just gangs up on you in full press too though.

A nice excuse for a bounce: The title just means "gunboat" in Arabic. As in this useful phrase:

http://soundcloud.com/vaftrudner/gunboat

"I don't speak Arabic, but I can play a gunboat"
Phonetic guide: "La atakallam lughat al-'arabiyya, wa lakin yumkin an al'ab zawraq midfa'iya"

So whenever you find yourself in Iraq with a Diplomacy board and no way to communicate, don't say I never taught you anything useful!

I am down about 267 D on the series, I believe.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
10 Apr 12 UTC
Lando, do you know if points are really floats? If not, when they're distributed from a game, are they rounded up or down?
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
10 Apr 12 UTC
Assuming points are rounded down (which doesn't really matter that much when the total number of points are 7000+), here are the amount of points people have earned thus far:

Babak 6500
Barn3tt 5756
The Czech 3999
Mujus 1333
rokakoma 1333
Vaftrudner 1333
zultar 1333
stratagos 750
Lando Calrissian -167
SplitDiplomat -250
DipperDon -1000

zultar (3790 D Mod (P))
10 Apr 12 UTC
OMG, it is a pyramid scheme.

What I find amusing is that Babak is always lamenting at how bad he is at gunboat, and when you look at top tier games, gunboat and full press wta, he's always at the top. I don't know why this sounds so familiar to me that the rich is always complaining about how they aren't getting enough. :)
I think Kestas has got to change this 0% tax rate. All it does is inflate the economy.

I say we do 10% for wta games, 5% for ppsc, 5% gunboats, 5% full press and so forth (all taxes are cumulative of course).

Barn3tt (33785 D)
11 Apr 12 UTC
Wow, Vaft- nicely done. Thanks for digging through the old threads.
lol and Babak pretends to "not be good" at gunboat.
sorry, zultar beat me to that one.
I wonder what happened to KalelChase. He was good at this game.
How do they do things like the world golf rankings, etc?

If you want a comprehensive ranking system for GB, I think weighting tournament results is a good basis. Could make really make for more competive games. We already have a couple majors in the two big gb tourney. And if we can factor any "organized" event, like the jcbryan series' and sargmacher's series.

I wish I had an idea on how to do something like this.
