Would you guys hook JimTheGrey up with some quality gunboat games for a lot lower than 500 point but-in, he's a F2Fer still trying to build up his bank account, and he told me he would kick all your asses if you were brave enough to play him...
Its fun to work my way up in terms of what I'm willing to wager. To some extent I bet here like I do in poker, there's no point in placing all of your holdings down at once. Wait til I get over 2k... then I can be peer-pressured into playing :-)
Plus regardless of how good you are at this game, playing gunboat, at least, its pretty easy to have a bad string of games, because sometimes everyone just gangs up on you.
@ Sarg: Actually we did play together at least once, on a jcbryan07 invitational, won by... jcbryan07: gameID=81116 . Oh, and in the Summer Gunboat Tournament: gameID=68339 ! And here too: gameID=49248 .
So I went and dug up all the EoGs for 7000+ gunboats. I hope this is useful for all you who want to learn, and some of these threads were a bitch to find so please keep this list going as the series continues!
so Don...your 14point GR advantage somehow makes you better than me? make a game and put your money where your mouth is...I'm all in. you organize, pm me the password, and I'll sit here and make you cry.
What I find amusing is that Babak is always lamenting at how bad he is at gunboat, and when you look at top tier games, gunboat and full press wta, he's always at the top. I don't know why this sounds so familiar to me that the rich is always complaining about how they aren't getting enough. :) I think Kestas has got to change this 0% tax rate. All it does is inflate the economy.
I say we do 10% for wta games, 5% for ppsc, 5% gunboats, 5% full press and so forth (all taxes are cumulative of course).
How do they do things like the world golf rankings, etc?
If you want a comprehensive ranking system for GB, I think weighting tournament results is a good basis. Could make really make for more competive games. We already have a couple majors in the two big gb tourney. And if we can factor any "organized" event, like the jcbryan series' and sargmacher's series.
I wish I had an idea on how to do something like this.
Why does the timer NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL TIME LEFT?
I noticed in a live game yesterday that a couple of times I changed my moves and hit "save" when the clock still said 2 seconds or something like that, but I got the "game has moved on, please refresh" thingy.
What is up with that? Why not have the clock actually indicate how many seconds you have left to get in your moves. Sometimes that can make a difference in a live game.
Abgemacht has given his blessing for a carrier pigeon variant wherein players communicate via carrier pigeons. Who's up for it? I have six little birdies just waiting to fly the coup with diplomatic intrigue! Just think of the metagaming possibility when you intercept someone else's bird!
I'm butt-hurt and I want you too look at this game: gameID=85903
Germany and Russia are one and the same, because there is no reason to go relentlessly after someone, without gaining much or enough, exposing your entire back to the biggest power in the game, granting him the win.
So, I was thinking, the one nice thing about the Cold War was that NASA got tons of money to just be awesome. People were excited about science and we developed a lot of cool technology. Why can't we have another Space Race? Surely China or India would be up for the challenge.
I was wondering - without insisting on an immediate verdict - whether my email & thread about the sending of screenshots had been taken into consideration? If it is, I'll shut up again, just curious whether it is in the pipeline.
Because there are those who complain about a lack of Diplomacy Topics
One of the weakest parts of my game is that I don't go to other players with plans, but rather listen to plans, and adapt my strategy. Do you prefer to engage first, or listen to others? And how would you suggest I improve upon actively engaging with other players with ideas rather than waiting for them to come to me?
Apparently, you cannot mute a banned player. I discovered this when I tried muting bullshiot threads to make scouring the forums for an old thread easier. Curious indeed. By one's banning, they become like the mods: immutable.
