1) Please join me in congratulating FK on his promotion to Admin
2) I have drafted a set of guidelines containing every possible scenario I could think of. It is being reviewed by the rest of the mod team now. Although Mods will still have autonomy, it will serve as an official reference for us, so we can do a better job at making consistent decisions.

Predict the future of Nationalism.
It may be useful to look at the history of Nationalism...

I suppose it is also useful to note how nations educate their young about nationalism...

Face-to-face Diplomacy in NYC
The website told me to write a four-line summary because my post was too big  I'm organizing a Face-to-Face game in New York City, with the hopes to eventually create a "proper" F2F community! Pitch follows.

How do you define metagaming?
I am curious to know a clear and definite description of metagaming and at what point does playing with friends become a violation.

Hosting a game at my home
I want to host a game at my home with my friends, showing webdiplomacy map on TV screen and using it as move validator. Is there a way to enter orders for all of my friends, using only one user? Some sort of 'game super-user'?

Rail Baron
Anyone else play this game?
Playing with a bunch of people now; probably the best non-war board game I've played.

That's a strong statement, do you like it better than Catan?
Acquire

I used to have a copy of 1830 (a train game similar to Rail Baron, I believe), which I think would've been a great game if only I'd had two friends to play it with. It scores a higher rating than Rail Baron on BGG...

Rail Baron is a ton of fun, but has some flaws. Very often the person who gets The Pennsylvania will win.

If you like rail baron I would suggest you try merchant of Venus. There is a reprint coming out sometime soon.

1830 is nothing like rail baron. It's like the difference between risk and diplomacy. 1830 is cool but very difficult to play well.

catan and diplomacy are the best. Agricola is pretty good too :)

I've heard very good things about Acquire, but haven't played it. I think my father has a copy; ill take a look.

I do enjoy Catan. I think its better as a fun, casual game. Hut, it just doesn't give me the same rush as when some auctions all their lines to pay my fees in a desperate attemot to make it to their destination.
Its alot of fun, a lot of strategy yet a good deal of surprise and suspense.

+1 on Acquire, Santa..

The Avalon Hill Board Game Company... Best board game company ever, its a crying shame they went under.

Unfortunately a number of the top titles are just plain out of print, no one ever picked them up to resell. I haven't found Rail Baron or Acquire (among others) for cheap enough to pick them up..

Anyone ever play Third Reich or Squad Leader? (or ASL?)

My local game store just told me someone bought the rights to AH and some games will be reprinted. It is now a division of the game company Wizards of the Coast, which is itself a subsidiary of Hasbro.
Jacob (2711 D)

Has to has reprinted several AH titles including acquire. In fact, acquire is in print right now, although it is an inferior version. I have 2 spare copies of acquire right now that I would sell if someone wants them.

I was always fond of Feudal. Great multiplayer chess like game with plenty of potential in the setup as well.

I played Feudal a lot when I was younger.

It's a fun game, but I would rather play Chess with one person or RISK with a lot of people.

My father's copy seems to have been lost over time. Too bad since he still has all the other good ones.

Aquire has been reprinted. I prefer Ticket to Ride for rail games - they have an oline version as well that can work.

Catan and Carcassone rock. There are java versions here:

Yeah, I love asobrain for Catan.

In fact, I prefer it to the board game, because you get to do all the fun stuff without all the nuisance of dealing cards or having the board fall apart or w/e.

@Lief

Yeah, you won't find a cheap copy of Rail Baron. I think my copy is worth a little over $200, but I enjoy playing it too much to sell it.

+1 to catan and rail baron although I wasnt a huge fan of asobrain. S3dconnector.net was way better in its prime. I play at catan.com now. Im gonna download the settlers app for my phone.

+10 to jacob checkin his pm's.

@abgemacht - But Risk is all about the dice throws. That's why I like feudal, it's more like multiplayer chess.

Ron Paul is officially an idiot...
I just watched him tell Jay Leno he is against seatbelt laws. His argument that people have a right to do with their own body is all fine and good, but seatlbelts keep the driver behind the wheel and in better copntrol of their car, therbye protecting the lives of others. He has just proven he is an idiot that can't be put in power.

Everyone's Holiday Reading? (Suggestions?)
Well, it's the Holidays--sorry, it's "CHRISTMAS TIME," for all those "War on Christmas" folks--and I know we have a lot of avid readers on the site...and I just finished the two novels I had left over from my semester's worth of free reading ("The Brothers Karamazov," which was decent but 200 pages too long, and "Tess of the D'urbervilles," which was good, if not a tad anti-climactic) and I was wondering--what's everyone reading? Suggestions?
