When making a game, does the time/phase mean time per turn, or for every phase? So if I put 1day/phase, does that mean it would take 3 days to get to Fall 1901?

Hi,
Sorry to everyone in the Second Series of my informal gunboat games but could everyone please vote cancel? As per the discussion led by Babak and ulcabb in threadID=803223, it has been decided that all the games must be cancelled and the tournament restarted.

Sorry about this inconvenience. Thank you for your continued understanding through President Eden and Mr. Crispy's replacements.

First Drugs...Then Terror...Now We Have A War On...Christmas??? (Really???)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tks1vqfvO9I&feature=related
Jon Stewart--as usual, very funny, very on-point...10/10.
Bill O's response: "Well obviously Mr. Stewart is going to Hell..." ...0, fail.
But besides all that--does anyone here actually buy this "War on Xmas?" I mean...really? As Stewart says in the vid..."We can't win!"
no, and i haven't bought it for the past 15 or so years that O'Reilly has been selling it. Stores should not be forced to say Merry Christmas to everybody including me. My family has been here for 100 years. I am not a guest in a christian country. If they want to say mery christmas, I am not one to correct them. I reciprocate. But the idea that a store trying to appeal to a broad base is anti-christian for saying Happy Holidays is now, as always, ridiculous.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
A "Tree Lighting Ceremony"...THAT isn't Xmas-y enough?

Saying "Happy Holidays," that's just out of bounds?

Yes, I grant, it's a bit silly for schools to call it "Winter Break" when we all know, Jew or Gentile or anything else, it's Xmas Break...

But isn't it just as silly to quibble over whether or not you DO call it that in the first place?

Or, as is expressed later in the video, if you really "mean it" when you say "Merry Christmas"...really? There's a set standard of "meaning it" now?

...Put the "Christ" back in Christmas?

I'd again ask:

Why?
Who cares?
If you're Christian and you celebrate it as Jesus' birthday...good for you!
(But maybe you should get a calendar and a history book.) ;)
But is it REALLY that big a deal for those of us who just want to enjoy the holidays?
We NEED religion crammed down our throats?

I mean, this isn't "A Charlie Brown Christmas" here...

*I* enjoy Christmas, and it's not in my religion...I need to "put the Christ back in Christmas," or I'm going to Mr. O'Reilly's hell?

...

If I don't celebrate the holiday the way you want and praise the dead man--sorry, the dead JEW--the way you want, I go to hell, and my views are no longer valid?

OH!

And I LOVE Stewart's response to the "religion is under siege!" charge by the WOMAN WEARING A CROSS AROUND HER NECK ON TV!

Merry Christmas.
Happy Channukah.
Cordial Kwanzaa
Happy HOLIDAYS, forks--WHICHEVER you want to celebrate.

13 Dec 11 UTC
And +1 Santa...

My family's been here since Ellis Island...

And I do the same--if someone tells me Merry Christmas, I'll just say "You too," and move on, maybe wish them a Happy Chanukah as well, if it comes out, or if it's to a friend, since we have plenty of playful banter on the whole Christian/Jew thing...

I was actually introduced to this whole story because a friend posted something from Rick "There's A War On Christmas!" Perry's website...

Wishing a HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone.

I guess we all need to "Put the Christ back in Christmas"...

Unless there's an election on the line? Hypocrisy, FOX, and stories nuttier than nutmeg...they just sorta go together around this time... ;)

I've had this same argument several times... you are correct. It is a non-issue from both ends, and those that try to make it an issue are idiots (or asswipes).
When you boil O'Reilly's bullshit down to its essence, his point is basically, "We Christians allow you in our country all year round, how dare you object to having the public institutions you pay for, the stores you shop at and basically every facet of society being consumed by a christian a holiday for one month."

obiwanobiwan (248 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
I want to know how Bill-O would react to a Jew like Stewart or myself or whomever wishing him a Happy Channukah.

Is that just so against his indoctrinated mind that he'd flip out and rave "It's MERRY CHRISTMAS, you unbelieving-socialist-fascist-communist-liberal-pinko-democrat-Jew! How DARE you wish me a Happy Channukah, now, wish me a Merry Christmas and MEAN IT, say it RIGHT!"

XD

http://www.popehat.com/2010/11/19/jesus-may-be-the-reason-for-the-season-however-jesus-is-not-the-reason-you-are-shopping-at-dicks/

I think the important thing to remember s that Shopping has very little to do with the Christian faith. In fact the secular christmas holiday, which is very much a part of our culture (and enjoyed by many people who aren't christians) has very little to do with the religious holiday of the same name.

I would have assumed that any true christians would be happy to have their holiday back as the secular 'happy holidays' and 'winter break' is finally an admission that many people are not celebrating something to do with their lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

The lies are over, the secularists have finally admitted what they are doing, and now Christians can celebrate their religion the same way jews do when celebrating (C?)hannukah...

+ a lot

It's really the only explanation for this that makes sense!
krellin (80 DX)

Obiwan - I agree....regardless of what anybody else does/says/believe/calls the time, the tree the break from school, etc....to *me* it is Christmas, and to my family. Not sure what difference it should make if my neighbor wants to call it something else. I never want to be told that I can not practice my religion...and part of the deal of my freedom to practice my religion is the freedom to allow others to practice a different religion or no religion at all.

I *do* think it is silly for businesses to NOT say Merry Christmas when *everybody* knows the incredible "holiday" sales they are having are specifically for Christmas....but whatever. I can choose to either shop there or not....and consumers in a FREE market should be free to shop there or not, or even band together FOR or AGAINST a business. It's all about freedom...

And...on a related topic....how many of you are going to boycott Lowe's because they have pulled their advertising from a show about Muslims? Let's see how many hypocrites we have in here today...heh heh...
Putin33 (111 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
The Christians who founded the European settlements of America banned Christmas for many years. I believe Scotland banned it for hundreds of years. Calvin certainly banned it in Geneva.

Nobody hates Christians more than fundamentalist Christians.
how is that hypocritical at all? I never said that boycott's shouldn't or couldn't be used. I think the use of them in this instance is ridiculous. What Lowes caved in to and what O'reilly advocate is the exact same thing, "How are you not practice my religion, I therefore boycott you"

Santa -- good god, you fool, I didn't mention you AT ALL. Sounds like a guilty conscience to me....<sigh...> But there WILL be some of the politcally correct nature that think Christians need sot shut the hell up, but that anyone who offends a Muslim should be punished. Particularly living in the Detroit (i.e. Dearborn) area, this is not an uncommon paradox.

But again...typical of you and the anti-Krellin crowd -- you leap to attack before you fucking read and comprehend what I wrote. Kind of pathetic of you.
krellin (80 DX)
13 Dec 11 UTC
So - because even when I make a reasonable contribution to the discussion certain assholes feel the need to attack without comprehension, I'm going to bed. Fuck off, Santa, you dimwitted flagrant, flatulent asshole.
Putin33 (111 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
What is the hypocrisy then? Or do you just insert the word "hypocrisy" like Giuliani uses 9-11?
Got it, just a complete coincidence.

False equivency from Krellin follows of course. Supposedly the world is telling christians to "sut the hell up" by taking their creches out of public buildings and allowing stores to say happy holidays.

Meanwhile 1 out of every 3 radio stations seem to be christmas 24/7 stations, every other day on TV is another Christmas special, santas are everywhere and schools are let out for a week.

On the other hand a secular show about Muslims living in America is boycotted by a bunch of religious fundamentalist for the stated cause that the characters are too integrated in American Society, and as a result a major retailer pulls funding from the show.

Sound completely equivalent

You Christians are so oppressed
Lowe's has every right to do this, just as I have every right never to shop there again for the completely un american principles their move betrays

Who the hell shops at stores like Lowe's anyway? Home improvement seems like a suburban hobby.

Sorry, I just had to share this...amazing response to that assertion by the Christian fellow...
And you know, I've actually wondered about that before, what you do about aborted babies if you're Christian...Dante sticks them in Hell--albeit not to badly--but still...if you agree with the black gentleman...well...how do you justify opposing abortion on PURELY THEOLOGICAL GROUNDS (secular ethics, that's another matter.)

A Question About US/UK TV...
Well, all my friends like Doctor who, so I've taken to watching it...and a friend told me DW was still in B&W in 1966...while Kirk was fighting that hilariously-rubber-suited Gorn in color already? On the other side of the coin...we seem to borrow some TV shows and ideas from Across the Pond...why is the BBC behind tech-wise and US TV behind "idea-wise?" (Are we...or is this just me?)
