Reboot of cancelled world game: Gain the World, Lose Your Soul
Hey all, really enjoyed this world game I was in until it was cancelled due to a cheater CD. I was hoping most of the players in that game want to start a new one with about the same crew.. It was a high point world game, with a lot of players I'd love to play against again.

The curse of Austria is upon me :-(
I have Austria in all but one of my current classic games, 5 out of 6! What happened to balancing the countries you get?!I would think this was not supposed to happen with the selection program. Please advise. Unless it is the way the mods are getting back at me... (to be fair I am doing well in several of them, over 9 SCs in two, but still...)

Someone got banned in our game during spring 1901 (we are still in spring 1901). We need a replacement (for Austria). 2 days/turn game. 46 hours left at the moment since time was added.

Moves question (can't believe I have to ask this -_-)
If Russia has an army in Moscow and that army moves to another center and fails. At the same time Russia moves to Moscow from StP with support from Livonia. At the same time Turkey moves from Ukraine to Moscow with support from Sevastopol. If it matters the army in Moscow is moving to Warsaw which is occupied by a German army that does not move the entire time. Who ends up with Moscow?
None of the centers involved are attacked in any way besides what was described.

"Oh cry me a fucking river with the southern grievance routine. Yours is the region that preaches personal responsibility and how you're morally superior and more fiscally responsible than the rest of us, but but when it comes down it you just want a pity party and give a bunch of excuses for why you are the way you are."

What the fuck are you talking about? What "southern grievance routine"? Your hatred for the South is entirely unjustifiable. And it's kind of pathetic, honestly, that you have such vitriol for such a pathetic shithole.

"Really, that's the best you can do? "Per the NCAA rules"? That's why USC got the closest thing to the death penalty that has been imposed on any school and yet SEC schools get away with cheating over and over again?"

Systemic lack of institutional control is what got Southern Cal in trouble. I already agreed that Southern Cal got hit with excessive punishments. But the reason why the trouble went over to the football team is because the problems cited in punishing Southern Cal applied to the whole university and weren't specific to the football team. The NCAA chose to hit Southern Cal harder than they should have in football to maximize the impact of the sanctions on Southern Cal because football and basketball are their big sports. I've already agreed that was too much. I get why the NCAA did it, but that doesn't mean I agree with the decision.

"Where was Bush given cash and a house by USC or by anybody related to USC? Or is Mayo the reason why they received the post-season bans and the 30 scholarship reduction? Except those penalties applied to the football program, not the basketball. Get your story straight."

The story IS straight. Systemic lack of institutional control = hitting the major programs at a university. I already said they got hit with too much. Sorry you missed the sarcasm in this part of the post.

"And you call me ignorant? You lost any credibility on this, homer.

Alabama had boosters pay multiple players hundreds of thousands of dollars. That is far worse than anything that is alleged Bush did (which the Bush shit is based on a load of hearsay crap anyway). Alabama was on probation when they paid off recruits 6 figures to come to Bama. Alabama lost 21 scholarships. USC lost 30. Nobody from USC or associated with USC paid anything to Bush, and they got a 30 scholarship reduction and a two-year bowl ban. How the fuck is that fair? And how is that not a double standard favoring the oh so oppressed South?"

What is this shit about me saying the South is oppressed? Your hyperbole is unmatched.

You didn't count the self-imposed 15 scholarship reduction. That's a total of 36 lost compared to Southern Cal's 30, with the same postseason ban and a longer probationary period. Yes, Alabama got it worse.

"Oh I get it, when your defense gets torched for 463 yards, it's the scheme. But when you hold a receiver to 27 yards, it's because you're so awesome. Whatever argument suits you at whatever moment."

It was "the scheme" for the last half or so of the game when LSU was up fairly big. Smith got most of his yards in the last third of the game, about the time LSU was starting to pull away. Believe it or not, some defenses actually *change their plans depending on the situation in the game.* Shocking, right?

"I see. So it's standard for LSU's defense to give up an obscene amount of yards. That's how great it is. Smith has the 18th best passer rating in the country, whilst Wilson has the 25th. But wait, Wilson played against great defenses like Texas A & M and Missouri State, whereas Smith played against the "Big Least", right."

No, moron, LSU actually gave up a season high in passing yards to WVU, because it went prevent for the last third of the game after going up big against a team with a good passing game. LSU didn't go prevent against other good passing teams after that.

And yeah, Arkansas has played against better pass defenses than West Virginia.

"Darren Thomas is a running QB. He's lucky if he throws 20 passes a game. It's not the same type of offense. You should know this, since you know everything about college ball."

Indeed, but he threw 54 passes that game.
"The alleged violations began to occur well into the 2004 season (again as inducements to get Bush to leave for the NFL early), yet USC was forced to vacate the entire season. That's complete rubbish and you know it. What evidence do you have that anybody at USC knew of what Bush's family was doing? None."

Okay, so explain to me why you think the NCAA did what it did, if Southern Cal is so spotless. Is the NCAA just that much stupider than you, or do they just have an ax to grind against their poster child of the mid 2000s?

"Right, of course Auburn is cleared. I like how you make up shit about USC paying football players to come to USC, when that clearly didn't happen. The benefits were between a potential NFL agent and the player, had nothing to do with Bush coming to USC and were in fact inducements to leave USC. And you're saying the big difference is money didn't actually change hands, but the fact that somebody is shopping a player around to various schools isn't a problem, doesn't make that player ineligible."

Yeah I like how you took my sarcastic statement about come to USC etc. and made it into this huge point in my argument when it never was. I also like how I can say outright that Southern Cal got hit too hard and you still argue against a straw man version of what I'm saying. I'm beginning to see why so few people enjoy arguments with you.

"Yeah the big difference is this, in one case you have a player whose family is soliciting payments to play for whatever SEC school pays the most, which actually involves inducements to come play for a school, in the other case you have an NFL agent, completely independent of the school, giving a family benefits well after the player had ever committed to the school."

The big difference is that with Southern Cal, you had lack of institutional control in multiple athletic programs with major players getting illegal benefits, whereas with the Newton saga you had one guy failing to shop his son's football talent around to a couple of SEC schools.

The Newton thing really is a nonstarter. You have no idea how up in arms people in the SEC were last year when the allegations about him came out midseason. A lot of SEC fans (sans Auburn fans) looked pretty extensively for any evidence of wrongdoing in the hopes that Newton would be suspended and Auburn would be out of the title picture so their chosen school could have a chance to play for the title instead should they have won out. (LSU's fanbase was one of them, because for most of that saga we only had one loss -- to Auburn -- which hypothetically would have been wiped out and put us back in the title race.)

And we found nothing. Some hung their hats on the NCAA investigation hoping that they'd find something all the fans didn't, and the NCAA didn't. If something came out later about that finding being foul, do you not think I'd be on your side here? That would have been the second time Auburn-related stupidity with NCAA officials screwed LSU out of a title hunt.

What did you guys think of the Vanier Cup this year? @Eden: Quinlan to DiCroce would burn Matheiu all day, and there's no way Jefferson or Lee could reliably get 10 yards in two downs.

@Putin33: What do you think of your school potentially hiring Urban meyer? Braxton Miller is going to be awesome in the spread.

If we were concerned about ethics, hiring Meyer is the worst possible choice. The football takeover of the university is complete. We don't need an all-star coach, we just need a competent one who actually calls plays sensibly and adjusts to in-game situations.
'@Eden: Quinlan to DiCroce would burn Matheiu all day, and there's no way Jefferson or Lee could reliably get 10 yards in two downs.'

lol CFL

First, I don't think Mathieu is going to be playing as a man coverage corner or even zone coverage corner in the pros. The one thing I don't like about how LSU is handling its defense this year is that we keep starting Mathieu as a man coverage corner opposite Claiborne. Claiborne's a stud and locks down the No. 1 guy almost every time and is playing the right stuff. Mathieu doesn't. His big plays are on blitzes and roving type assignments where he's free to run around and fuck shit up. He'd probably be a really good spy DB/return man in the NFL, though. Ball skills are unreal and he's ridiculously aggressive.

And considering the LSU offense is averaging 6.0 yards a play, I don't think they'd have an issue with getting 10 yards in two plays if you took this squad and put it in CFL rules. If we're talking pro teams, though? loooool. Lee and Jefferson are not going to play in the pros and I think everyone that follows LSU knows it... The way Jefferson has come on in the past few games, he certainly has the raw potential, but it would take too much coaching up to be worth the investment when a team could draft an Andrew Luck or Brandon Weeden and get right to it.

'If we were concerned about ethics, hiring Meyer is the worst possible choice.'

Well, Paterno's still technically on the market...
Side note that seems relevant:

Fuck ESPN, guys. They love the SEC more than SEC fans do. I'm serious. I haven't watched them for quite a while, but I watched tonight and saw the BCS Standings show, and... ugh. They're so retardedly in love with SEC "strength of schedule" that doesn't exist.

Please do not let them reflect on us SEC fans :( by and large we're less homerish than ESPN is about our own conference. They're like the 14-year-olds that just started learning about politics and decided "liek kommunzm is totes kool111!!1!" -- nothing more than idiotic cheerleaders that embarrass people who actually understand communism as a political ideology and defend it. Or the Tea Party representing libertarianism. Just for the love of God ignore these jokers, they don't represent the rational SEC fans' opinions of the SEC.
Just to give you an idea, Craig James is an ESPN "analyst" and an AP voter. His ballot, like the other AP ballots, is released every week.

His ballot this week put Arkansas at #3. ...with two losses. ...those losses by a combined 48 D to the teams above them.

http://www.pollspeak.com/component/option,com_psreport/Itemid,3/lang,en/p,36/p_1,36/r,V/r_1,V/s,17/s_1,17/t1,0/t1_1,0/t2,0/t2_1,0/v,14/v_1,14/w,14/w_1,14

Please do not treat ESPN as a remotely reliable source.

And if you guys are referring to these clowns for your claims of "SEC bias"... I'm starting to see your point.
Putin33 (111 D)
28 Nov 11 UTC
Craig James got Mike Leach fired, too. I really hope somebody takes ESPN down someday soon.
OH YEAH THAT WAS HIM! I hated that shit so much. Completely unfair treatment of Leach in that one. ESPN ruined him and Texas Tech for years to come...
