Faster Than The Speed of Light.
Some breaking news yesterday from CERN that subatomic particles seem to have beaten the speed of light. Very exciting and, although CERN wants the results checked again before publishing, such an extraordinary claim that I thought I'd bring it to attention here on the forum.

Donor Status
Question- I have a bronze donor symbol by my name. Is this fair within the game? Does it help my play, grant me "serious player" status so my word gets respected? Or make me a target instead?

I know that I look for that symbol in every game I am now entering. I treat others different when I see it. Is this part of the "spirit" of Diplomacy?

How the world really works.
With the high concentration of idiots on this website who seem to have not the foggiest idea how the world really works the timeliness of this thread can't be denied.

You can let kids in that don't deserve to be in, but that doesn't mean they will graduate, but it does mean that someone who would have graduated didn't get a chance.

"The campus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison erupted this week after the release of two studies documenting the heavy use of race in deciding which students to admit to the undergraduate and law schools. The evidence of discrimination is undeniable, and the reaction by critics was undeniably dishonest and thuggish."

"The university was none too keen on releasing the data, which CEO obtained through filing Freedom of Information Act requests only after a successful legal challenge went all the way to the state supreme court."

"The studies show that a black or Hispanic undergraduate applicant was more than 500 times likelier to be admitted to Wisconsin-Madison than a similarly qualified white or Asian applicant. The odds ratio favoring black law school applicants over similarly qualified white applicants was 61 to 1."

Statistics at the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education
Shows that 48% of the African American students at UW-Mad did not graduate.

I agree with putin, companies may be "more efficient" but its a ruthless efiiciency. They are concerned only with profit, not with people, or environmental health, or anything
Thats a "weak" argument according to TC's "Guide to spotting weak arguments and minds" thread. You are guilty of item #1, you should be ashamed. (I'm not sure why it's numbered when it's the only item on his list of 1, but meh)

Just left a meeting with the accountant today after discussing plans for expansion.
Some of our competitors aren't running their business well, and my partner and I see an opportunity for growth.
We do not have any debt whatsoever.
We have cash on hand.
We have a healthy revenue stream.
We are going to rent office space, invest in computer equipment, and put an add in the paper today for another employee.
It feels great to be able to offer someone a job.
If you have never had the opportunity to do so I encourage you to start a business that creates employment.
It is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have in life.
Cheers.
I'm going to leave the office early, smoke a bowl, and chill out by the grill with the dogs in the sun next to a cooler of cold beer.

takes money to make money

Thomas Sowell hits the nail on the head in his statements about Social Security.

The fundamental problem of Social Security is that the irresponsible way its finances are set up, and the changing demographics of the country, mean that there is simply not going to be enough money in its trust fund to pay today's young people what they are legally entitled to, when time comes for them to retire.

Declining birth rates and greatly increasing lifespans have created havoc with Social Security's finances, which are based on having the first generation's pensions paid with money collected from the second generation -- and the second generation's pensions paid by the next generation, etc.

Any private financial scheme set up in a similar way would be illegal. That is why Charles Ponzi went to prison."

The city of Ventura, California is currently paying an animal control office to go door to door to see if the residents have unregistered animals.
City officials are finding that the officer can't even generate enough revenue to justify the expense, and as an added bonus the residents of the city are uniting against the city government and will surely vote it out en masses.

Politicians never understand how things really work.

Residents also simply hide their pets when the officers come.

Stupid people in government. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

So what you're saying, Tettle, is that the Ventura officials have managed to create a spirit of unity and cooperation amongst residents across the city for the price of a single minimum wage pet inspector?

Genious!

The young generation of twenty and under freeloaders has a new website and idea.
At signon.org where the object is to get the government to forgive all student loans.

How stupid. The argument is it would immediately inject money into the economy.
Why would you give money to people with college degrees?
They have an education.
They already make more money than anyone else in the economy.
Unless of course they got a worthless degree that doesn't generate the income necessary to make a living and pay it off, and in that case we need to close down the department that issued the degree because they failed at education's basic mission.

Nothing like freeloaders who don't want to pay their debts.
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Sep 11 UTC
LOL, the older generation who have lived the highlife of cheap education and plentiful jobs where they never even had to go to school to get a job lecturing us "freeloaders". What'd you pay for college, like $1000 total? Screw you.

I love the argument by socialists who want to tax the rich.

They say that no one got rich on their own because they received a public education, use public roads, were protected by public police and fireman, and blah, blah, blah.

It everyone gets to share in "success" and "riches" then they should also share in the "failures" and "losses" or they are hypocrites in every sense of the word.

But of course I'm stating the obvious when I say socialists are hypocrites and socialism is hypocritical.

I apologize for being so mundane.

I'm thinking a 20-50 D pot, with 7 reasonably high GR-rated players for a classic, full press, 36hr, password game.

I would like to see some old faces and welcome new ones too.
Anyone interested?

Libyan sea, cyrene and marmarica are all 1 movement from egypts home supply centers... cyrene and libyan sea come before marmarica in the alphabet... is this a mistake or is there something i'm missing...?
