The Poor need jobs not handouts
The overwhelming basis of arguments put forth by supporters of Big Government on this board use "the poor" as a rational for almost everything.
The problem with this line of reasoning is the poor need jobs not handouts.
Handouts keep the poor poor and dependent.

500 Errors.
I think I'm causing them. I have internet explorer set to open it 500 times when I click on the WebDiplomacy link. And since I'm on all the time, I'm constantly refreshing the pages and stuff that crashes servers. Not to mention I know how to hack into the server if I wanted. I'm thinking about doing it just to show all of you how far I could go as the cult of personality here in WebDiplomacy World! Now give me 1200 D now!

Double mute button fail
When a page is loading I can see posts from a certain person I'm muting. When it fully loads they go away. That's fail #1. Fail #2 is that somehow, while a thread that I created was loading, I saw a post from someone I muted. I thought that people you mute can't see your threads?

some questions
Hi there. I played a few games back in 2008 and now I came back. The site has improved a lot. I would like to ask some questions that I do not find answers for elsewhere.

Meritocracy =/= Democracy, you know that right?
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

Fasces +1

Meritocracy =/= Democracy

Exactly the idea that separates us from Feudal Europeans.
Every time I hear about a European monarch, individual with a title, or some such other social corruption of privilege I thank God my forefathers had the sense to leave that decrepit continent and come to America where merit and not your family line count.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
03 Aug 11 UTC
The European nations, particularly England had already started adopting more capitalist less feudal approaches...

However in the socialist democracy we have now (I am including America) its not those with Merit who thrive but those who are lazy and moronic simply because a majority of voters are lazy and moronic.

Yes the fact that Bush's claim to fame before running for President was being an alcoholic who ran a couple of businesses daddy handed to him into the ground and got into ivy leagues on legacy scholarships demonstrates conclusively that family line means very little in America.

Ugh. Without even going back a page in this thread, TC and fasces are giving me a headache through their ludicrous divorce from objective reality. Again, I'm kinda thinking TC is a performance art identity, and eventually he's going to tire of trolling everyone at this site and reveal that he's just been having fun fucking with everyone. Surely anyone who can comprehend the rules of diplomacy can't be that much of a completely oblivious dumbshit, can they?

Fasces I just demonstrated that the Stalin quote about counting votes applies just as much to meritocracy, only then it would be the test graders not the vote counters that matter. So I ask again, if meritocracy is just as flawed as democracy why do you support it...

Bob, you are a liar and an idiot when you say "TC and fasces are giving me a headache through their ludicrous divorce from objective reality. "

I do not refer to you or name you in any post of mine in this thread.

Pull your head out of your ass Bob.

Because its not. Your assuming the vote counters are the problem with Democracy. They are not it is the VOTERS are the problem I have with democracy.

There is no perfect system. So we have to find systems that have a higher chance at working.

If there was not one test marker, but multiple it would be more likely to succeed.

Say the test was something like getting a degree from 2 different universities, accomplished X-job and BLA BLA BLA.

If it was not one test, but multiple, and each of them marked by different people who were all qualified in their own right to be in that situation the odds of the incompetent getting the job would go down.

VOTE Counts:
"We count the votes until we get it right." - E G Robinson in the movie, "Key Largo"

Sound a lot like shall we not say "Chi. ... where R. Emmanuel went.

Seen any horse heads on yr pillow lately, Diplomacy Games aside?

In the real world daggers drawn. Theramenes, [Ancient Athens jury's reason for condemning Socrates (Not the Athens of our Dip Variant, but the historical fact, as verified by Xenophon in MEMORABILIA, and by Plato - APOLOGY to PHAEDO dialogues)].

That 'Stalin quote' is a fake.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
04 Aug 11 UTC
Putin is right, here is the actual quote:

"You know, comrades, that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this — who will count the votes, and how."
-Joseph Stalin

Sure it isn't the exact same quote, but it means the same thing.

That "actual" quote is a fake. It comes from a notoriously unreliable source, Boris Bazhanov, who is the singular source of a wide variety of ridiculous quotes.

The reason the Democrats agreed to a debt deal was that they could not afford for August 2nd to come and go without the apocalypse they predicted materializing.

Newbie looking for my game...
Sorry if this is obvious, but nothing in FAQs helped. I joined a game yesterday, my points went down from 100 to 75 (and still at that level) indicating that I joined.... but nothing shows up under "my games". How do I find the game I joined? Am I missing a step?
