the effective tax-rate is different than theoretical tax rate. its very nice of Moore to pull the IRS numbers and tell us what taxes SHOULD or COULD be. however, rich folks don't pay millions to accountants and lawyers to pay what they SHOULD contribute. they pay for those services because they can then make write-offs, hide income, pass personal expenses to corporate entities and to take advantage of every loop-hole available.

Moore is a hack and a pretty poor one at that. i'm sorry that your concept of intellectual rigor is to point to his op-ed on the WSJ editorial page - that is a sad testament of your inability to impartially analyze economic and political items.


much more important than marginal, theoretical, and effective tax rates is the actual result of the economic disparity of our policies over the past 30 years in particular. consider total Net Worth (wealth) - this is the result of what everyone has in fact kept after all the taxes they actually paid.

2007:

Let's look at who actually pays how much. The top 1% have footed more than 1/3rd of the tax bill for the last decade plus. And the top 25% (where I fall in) has footed over 85% of it. So the bottom 75% have contributed less than 15% of the tax bill and they want to whine about it?
