Are no-hitters not a big deal anymore?
When guys like Ervin Santana can get one and we've had something like 10 in the past 2 seasons are no hitters going to become passe?

Also, what the heck is La Russa's major malfunction?

Account sitting.
I'll be out of town for four or five days, and I'm not sure what to do. I'm pretty new to this site so I'm not sure how it works, but I've seen people mention 'account sitting'? How does that work? What are the rules? How do I find someone to do that for me? I guess I'm just looking for a general explanation. Thanks in advance. Oh, and sorry if this is explained elsewhere on the site. Perhaps I missed it when I looked.

Actually, found the rule about it. I guess I just need to know if anyone would be willing to do it for me.

Let people know how many games you have going, and nope there are no real "guidelines" that I know about. Just change your password after you come back. I cannot be on enough to cover the 12 hour phase game you are in or I would offer. Hopefully someone else will see this and offer though.

Thanks, jmo. Your reply is appreciated.

I'm in ten games, all but one of which have phases of at least one day. Mostly World Diplomacy and Ancient Mediterranean. No Gunboats. If you don't feel like going through chats and what not to figure out who I'm allied with, just ask and I'll fill you in. There's also a few hopeless games that really just require hold orders.

I'm still in need of someone. Trying to get as many games paused as possible, but I can't see the World games being paused.

I would like to use this thread as well to look for a sub - I will only be gone from friday to sunday, and I only have two games, a 2 day and a 1½ day per phase - in the 2 day game, I have requested people not to finalize the coming retreats and builds, and if they do so, I should be able to ride the phases out for the weekend.

In the other game, I have some more or less pre-defined moves for the coming year, and can fill you in on alliances.

hopefully someone will help me out!

@jmo - There is one guideline... You should never have a sitter who is already in one of your games. That would be multiaccounting and is a *bad* thing. :-)
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

Yep, you got me there, forgot about that.
Draugnar (0 DX)

And, while not an official rule, it's always good to know and trust the player you are entrusting your account to. After all, they have access to your *entire* account when they sit it. That's why the mods can only have another mod sit for them.
Eleven (501 D)
20 Jul 11 UTC
Thanks, Draugnar. The only thing is I don't know anyone, so I'm rather hoping someone reputable offers.
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Jul 11 UTC
I'd offer, but I have too many games of my own at the moment.

Thank you anyway, Draugnar.

20 Jul 11 UTC
Yeah, if you don't mind your 12 hour game missing a phase or 2 then ok I will cover you till Tuesday morning. Message me your username/password and any alliances you want me to keep plus anything else you want me to try and accomplish in your games.

any chance you would sit in for me too? only two games, 36 and 48 hours, very straightforward phases from friday morning to sunday evening.
SacredDigits (102 D)
20 Jul 11 UTC
I can likely fill in for you, Per. I think all my current games (while anon) are games that I know who all the players are.

Please send me the game ID's if you're interested, I'll verify if I'm in them or not.

are we required to inform others in the game that we have a sitter? or is that a private matter between me, the sitter and perhaps my allies?
SacredDigits (102 D)
20 Jul 11 UTC
It's considered good ettiquette but not required. I usually say something when I'm sitting, but I won't if you don't want me to.

I'm reviving this because my family is horrid at telling me when we're going places, and I'll be going camping Friday morning and be back Sunday night. I was seriously told probably not more than five hours ago. That being said, I'll need another sitter for the weekend. I've got three World Diplomacy games, and two original games going. Four are one day phases, the other is a two day. If anyone could help me out, I'd be extremely grateful.
Indybroughton (3407 D(G))

I'll be happy to sit for anyone on the thread who isn't taken care of.

I'm only currently in non-anon games, so no danger there.
I've never resigned a game, so your moves will get entered.
And with a GR=25, I'll do a respectable job of fighting it out for you. I've had some decent finishes when sitting.
If anyone needs it, PM me or email me at [email protected]

I kinda need a sitter for one game.
I'm England and doing badly. Do you think you can help, Indy?
Indybroughton (3407 D(G))
29 Jul 11 UTC
I find it impossible to believe that you would do poorly in England. Must be surrounded by a bunch of untrustworthy liars.
Indybroughton (3407 D(G))
29 Jul 11 UTC
But when in doubt, use my never-fail rule for England: Trust Austria and attack Germany.
SacredDigits (102 D)
29 Jul 11 UTC
Doing poorly as England is almost as improbable as getting totally screwed as Turkey.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
29 Jul 11 UTC
Well, if you ever do badly as Austria, I would be a friend and sit for you. Just one time though. That's all.

How Much Is Everyone Muting?
I ask becuase I see folks saying they're muting folks in threads more and more...and it just seems like a shame and almost unfair to me, really...granted I'm probably one of the most-muted on the site--at least I would guess I am--but even so, all the more reason I just can't mute anyone..."if you can't stand the heat"...? You can't have it both ways, give a critical opinion and erect a shield to deflect all criticism, even if that "criticism" is a foolish troll, yes?

Looking for sitter
I'll be away for 5-6 days next week and still have a couple games running. It shouldn't be too huge of a time commitment if anyone is willing, since one is a 4 day phase world game in which I have only a single unit. The other is a game in the summer gunboat tournament, so someone not part of that would be preferred.
I hope I'm not asking too much with only a few days notice, but if someone with a good reputation would PM me saying they can, I would be extremely grateful.

Hysteria & Welfare State Bankruptcy
In the current budget debate you see two viewpoints-the House of Representatives realizes the Welfare State is bankrupt with $200 Trillion in deficits and unfunded liabilities. The Obama administration and the Senate think everything will be fine if they raise taxes and keep pumping devalued dollars into the economy.

gunboats are stupid and ruin diplomacy
the point of diplomacy is exactly what it says. DIPLOMACY. When we get rid of ingame messaging it does away with the crucial factor of diplomacy and results in no improvement of luck. It actually makes the game far more random and chancy than it should be. I believe that we need to get rid of this option to allow DIPLOMACY to take its course. Please add your comments about this.
