To be berated by Draugnar post cheating accusations here!

"Because the best deterrent to crime is strong, public punishment. If everytime I verbally berate the person and keep it at the top for a time, maybe I can keep another cheating accusation from being posted".

I'm a Political Puppet here and am considering setting up a game for players with the same status. Can anyone explain what ranks exist here and what's needed for promotion?

I'm especially puzzled by seeing who's got what rank:
Draugnar is a puppet and played 89 games (won 3)
abgemacht is a mastermind after playing 72 games, winning 5

your rank is based completely off how many available points you have at that time, if i joined a game that cost 300

then it would take me down from what im ranked now to a political puppet, the ranking system on this site isnt the best but if your looking for new players (im assuming your new as well) then look for the SoW or school or war thread in the forums and apply for one of those games =)

It only deals with how many points you have in relation to the other players on the site. I'm in the top 5% for points, so I'm given the title Diplomat. It really doesn't mean anything though, and most players won't judge you based on that title.

Unless you're like me, and struggle to compete against other players in the 200-1000 gap where there are few players. In that case, you covet your rank that says you are better than 80% of other players, of whom 90% haven't touched the game since their first year.

Ghost ranking is much more reliable to see if a player is good or not, (i cant wait to see where im at after this months updated because i've finished a bunch of games and either had a win or draw for all of them)

Those titles mean next to nothing. You could be a mastermind but if you invest all of your points in a single game then you would be a puppet again. No one takes any notice of the titles.

Vilkas one way you could find a game with players of around your skill level is to find out where you are ranked and then post to the forum requesting a game with players within a rank range. For example if you are ranked 500, you might specify players who are ranked between 300 and 700.

I am referring here to Ghost Ratings and not points, which is not a great system. It has its place, it's convenient, but Ghost Ratings is better. So you will need to go to the Ghost Rating site (Abe posted the link a few posts back).

Vilkas your current GR (Ghost Rating) is 2035th.
Draugnar's is 290th.

Thanks, everybody. I do understand that GR is a good indicator for regular players. I guess that from rank 1000 and below it doesn't say much about a player, though. That part seems populated by a wild mix of newbies, frequent CDers and the, err, less hopefuls.

Speaking about GR - can someone explain Ghost's methodology? I saw the article, but am no math wizz and don't get the calcs

basically he goes off of how many wins draws surives etc, along with how good the players were in those games (were they experienced and higher ranked or beginners), and the point value i believe. if im wrong someone please correct me because i would also like to know if that isnt right.

It's like the point system, except that instead of everybody contributing the same amount to the pot, the amount each player contributes is a set fraction (2/35 for Classic map, press games) of the number of GR points he has when the game finishes.

Actually, my GR ranking is 290th. My actual GR will be a number like 123.45 or something. It isn't that high but I'm on my blackberry so a bit difficult to look up on the site.

loading orders in mozilla

Orders cannot load in firefox. it says "loading orders" but they won't load.
I have disabled all add ons but it wasn't fixed.
any ideas?

Live Game Etiquette

I'm curious to hear different takes on live game etiquette. If there are no-shows, or players miss the first phase, it seems to be that the game should be cancelled or at least a draw. However, if one player is the benefiary of said no-show, then he or she has little or no incentive to vote for a draw or cancellation, forcing all the other players to participate in a game in which he or she has a distinct starting advantage.
