China has offered Taiwan the same Special Administrative Region status Hong Kong and Macau have. The intricacies of the previous deals don't really matter, or the fact that Macau and Hong Kong were two (very different kinds of) "colonies" before coming under PRC control, since China has explicitly offered a nearly identical deal to Taiwan. I remember reading a Foreign Policy article about it, but here's Wikipedia just so there's some evidence.

Calm down man. If you read the previous posts, I state that my grandparents WERE what everyone would call "nazi's". It's not their fault they lived in Germany at that time. They then moved here and we're all proud American's now. Draugnar apologized and realized he shouldn't have thrown around the Nazi term so loosely. Chill out a little bit man, if you get so riled up everytime anyone says something like that, you have to be angry a lot because people nowadays throw those terms around like they're nothing.

So, Draugnar has rightly apologised to you for his comment about your grandparents (who I guess based on your name were Polish). Is there any chance of you apologising for your lack of knowledge about a) Hong Kong or b) the US's natural resources?

Miro Klose is half right when he said Hong Kong's return was part of a contract (as explained better by someone else long ago, but the actual Hong Kong island was owned by Britain as much as the Isle of Wight is. In Macau's case the Portuguese were there for hundreds of years and slowly captured more and more sovereignty for themselves there.

At any rate, my statement on Taiwan being offered Special Administrative Region status by the PRC was correct and my theory that Taiwan will eventually accept it (by hook or by crook) was a legitimate and educated guess.

The least you could do is admit you jumped the gun on saying I was totally wrong. If not, then maybe Draugnar was wrong to even apologize for calling you a Nazi.

I think you are right about Taiwan accepting SAR status eventually. Both sides are very careful to treat the other as part of the same country (e.g. at Taipei airport PRC citizens do not go through the "foreigner" channels at passport control). The PRC government will play a long game unless Taiwan declares independence.
