Who hates Americans and Why?t
I hate them because not only are they an interfering bunch and war mongerers, but also because they are loud mouths, can hear them from Oz with their loud talk, but they are arrogant, more than the french, and pompous... that's for starters

Orders
Make a point and click interface, like Playdiplomacy.com, because in gunboat, it is useful to make impossible orders to communicate

Pause please?
To everyone playing this game http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=31461, I would like to ask for a pause. I'm going away for the weekend and will be back approx Sunday 9 am AEST (Saturday 11 pm GMT). Please don't flame me as I can't ask this in game as it is a gunboat, and I would rather the players decide than ask for a moderator to do it which could leave some players confused.

Jokes
So I have to find a list of ten or so jokes for my dad that he is going to use in a training seminar he's doing for a company out in missouri in about a month. I figured that you guys would probably know quite a few, so post away with all your jokes--good and bad!

How to play good gunboat
Hey, I'm interested in joining a gunboat sometime, but honestly, I don't know how to signal my desires to other players let alone achieve my own goals. So, how does one play good gunboat?

It's a bit tainted given the Austrian CD but there's a pretty competitive match going on.

Gar, 1 am and I'm just about awake.
Why did I request this game so late :P

Debrief from me sometime tomorrow I think.

dubmdell: If you want to email me directly I'm happy to help teach you the idea's of gunboat diplomacy. Infact, you might make quite a useful test subject for the explanations & tactics ava's been collecting.

Example:

You're Russia, and you want to juggernaut. Moscow supports Constantinople to Budapest. Except that you can't do that on this site. Shame.

Thank you, figlesquidge. I appreciate your help.

@ava, if you have explanations/ tactics you need a test subject for, post away or PM me for my email.

@rcnrcn: +1

I'd play much more gunboat if this site allowed us to enter invalid orders. Armies convoying each other to Switzerland are always good.
ava2790 (232 D(S))

The more limitations you have, the more challenging it is to find ways to communicate. Those who are more creative/can read between the lines a little more, are rewarded.

@ava: Yes, but there are very few people (or at least very few that I've met) that do take the time to carefully analyze more subtle/creative means of communication.

You could draw a parallel between invalid orders in gunboat to press in standard Dip. Then those more "careful" means of communication prove just as, or more, useful in a game with press to help filter out truth from lies. Unfortunately I'm not that good (yet) so I'll keep on wishing and learning until then.

Try searching for high bet gunboats (pot>150) that have finished. I like analyzing them when I have free time.
dubmdell (556 D)
30 Jun 10 UTC
Is there a search function for the site? I looked for one the other day and didn't come across one...
figlesquidge (2131 D)
01 Jul 10 UTC
For players by name (as profile.php) games by type (as gamelistings.php) but not for the forum unless you know who wrote it, in which case it'll be on their profile.

@OD - Play higher pot as ava says. By that point you know everyone will be serious about it, and then people do (generally) play very well.
I'm very against allowing false orders. Half the fun is trying to communicate with so little to go with. Allowing false orders would allow one defensive unit to send instructions about the front line. As it is you have to choose between attacking or communicating.

Boys with Toys
Whether it's "Rosebud..." or "Toy Story 3" (I have to see it still, but I'm already crying lol) the media seems to love to remind us of that nostalgic-but-sad-for-some fact...We ALL had a favorite toy or two...or many...
And now- they're gone, or stuffed in the attic.
Christmases, Channukahs, Birthdays...Nostalgia Galore- Favorite Toys, folks?
