Jedi Census Phenomenon

I kind of found this out today and was in awe about it so I had to confirm it. Is this really true???

Is what *part* of it 'really true'? Is it true that people mark 'Jedi' on the census in other countries? I mean, for the US it's irrelevant, as there isn't a religious question on this year's census form...
dexter morgan (225 D(S))

Apparently true... though the claim that such a movement would result in the official designation of "Jedi" as a state-recognized religion are false:

I'm afraid to say that, while one should never completely trust wikipedia for information, this is true. Some people are craz enough to make a religion of being a jedi from Star Wars. The problem is that they're so dumb, none of these idiots who are too stupid to even join the church of scientology (and you'd have to be a complete moron to fall for that one) to realize that being a jedi (from the series, at least) is much more of a lifestyle choice than a religion. I wonder who's the complete fool who started this lame religion.

no dumber than geting sucked into any other mainstream religion.

"why do you believe what you do?"
"Because that guy in the robes said it's true, so it has to be" = FAIL

yep, lots of truth, i had heard about it at the time, and read that article in the last few weeks.

really cool things happening, i like that people were threatened with giving the government false information (fraud) whereas other people were happy to some people filled in the census form when they atherwise wouldn't...

haha I find this pretty funny. I really don't think people who put that answer truly believed they were part of a "religion" per se. Its just really humorous to see the statistics come out of a country with more people claiming to be Jedi than Buddhist (see Australia) haha!

It's a pity I already chucked my census form into the fireplace...

You realize the fine for not filling out the census is $500 and then they come to your house and sit in your dining room and fill it out asking you the questions.

@Draugnar,

I've stocked up on fava beans and chianti. The fact that they'll walk right in to my kitchen makes things very easy. Bring 'em on!

"no dumber than geting sucked into any other mainstream religion.

"why do you believe what you do?"
"Because that guy in the robes said it's true, so it has to be" = FAIL "

@Golgo
Why do you believe the universe began with the big bang?
"Because the guy in the white jacket said it's true, so it has to be"= FAIL moron

Btw, personally I believe in a God because of the mathematical odds that life was formed by the simple reactions that supposedly caused them are very low. Oh, and Pascal's wager is also a good argument if you're looking for one.

@pati

LOL @ lab coat comment

But, Pascal's Wager is like the definition of a false dichotomy. Why it's still being used for a defense of God is beyond me.

A question of priorities...
What would be regarded the better result in a points per supply centre game. A draw between you and three other people earning 1/4 of the points, or merely surviving but earning a greater number of points?

(Let's assume the draw followed a hard thought game, and wasn't just due to people wanting to leave early like in some live games I could mention... grumble...)

Some of us are rather new here and would like to improve. I know one of the rules is that you do not comment on ongoing games in the forum, but I would like to create a game where the players will get comments from the forum.

V for Vendetta
I have recently discovered that I have, lurking deep within my soul, a weakness I'd been blissfully unaware of. After a spell of truly awful play, messages, and poor attendance from a rival player the red mist descended to the point that I would have been happier defeating him totally than winning the game. Is this a common feeling? Are there any techniques to fight it??? Help!

Via Land/Via Convoy
So maybe I am just naive, but is there ever a reason why you would want to select 'via convoy' instead of 'via land' when you have the option? This pops up whenever you've got the choice of an army going on it's own steam or being ferried by an adjacent navy, and I respect that they left the option in here, but is there ever a situation when anybody would convoy an army from Ankara to Constantinople instead of just marching the army overland?

gunboat vs. regular games
personally i find gunboat games to be boring, slow paced, and outrageously unskilled. there is no diplomacy involved.

but being a fair man, i will hear out other peoples attacks or defense for gunboat games.
please post your views!

Trouble hosting webDiplomacy server.
I set up everything according to the directions (or so I thought) but when I try to access the webpage I get "Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Variant in C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\variants\variant.php on line 34". I've also posted on the sourceforge page but have gotten no response. Anyone know what's up?
