Cookie Monster Solutions
Instead of regulations, (YAWN), lets have unrestricted gun laws and limitless purchasing. The only rule is the retail employees *must* dress like cookie monster to make gun stores more kid friendly. Offer gun buyers a plate of CoOKiEs.

Mansplaining and manscaping
I heard people use the term mansplaining recently. It was negatively stigmatized but what does it even mean? Also I head people saying something about manscaping and I wondered if that was a type of yard work. Any input is appreciated.

Spring 1901 NMR
What provisions are there in general for dealing with players who NMR on the first turn? Should we simply agree on a draw and try and rebuild the game with new players? Is there a way to bring in replacements?

New York is the best.
Now that I've gotten everybody's attention, would anybody be interested in playing a game of American Empire where everybody plays as the region that they are from? I think that might be kinda fun and could be a way to release some of this clearly geographical tension that is brewing in the forums.
I'd have to claim NY

Trump blunders around Asia, returns home to more scandal
Trump blunders around Asia offending allies. Meanwhile Jeff Sessions "cannot remember" what went on at important meetings when "giving evidence". Further evidence of the inadequacy of gun controls in the USA with her another tragic shooting at a School.

Blunders? How so? Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines were falling over themselves to sing his praises.

This is news today: Trump this or that. Be outraged. If you're not, you ain't woke.
Randomizer (80 D)

After getting good reviews on his Asian talks, Trump went and defended his puppet master Putin. The only thing harder to swallow than Trump's firm belief that Putin didn't influence the election is ministers defending Roy Moore's picking up underage girls because of the age difference between Jesus's parents. At least they were married and not committing statutory rape.
MajorMitchell (991 D)
15 Nov 17 UTC
Well Jesus has a tricky parentage...maternal side is fairly straightforward.. The Madonna/Mary ( not the American songstress ) Joseph is a nominal / "adoptive" father and whilst he might have been slightly older than Mary, that age difference pales into insignificance compared to the age difference between Mary & God/the Holy Spirit.
It is a relatively modern phenomenon, this notion that young women should not be directed to marry by their fathers until they are at least eighteen, or thereabouts. If some Ministers (of religion, not State ) are a bit old fashioned that's not entirely unexpected given that Churches are rather traditional types of organisations.

Gee Octavious, an egotistical, pompous, boorish Westerner ( but wealthy & politically powerful ) visits Asia, makes crass, patronising jokes that only he thinks are amusing....and the locals... Do they confront him & slap him down a peg or two ? .....

Or do they smile politely, assure him that he is a "most honoured guest" etc massage his overblown ego etc, focus on their interests during negotiations, get the business done as expeditiously as possible and enthusiastically farewell him at the airport ????

Which response from Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese fits best "culturally" Octavious ???
Blunt truth and controversy, or an urbane "maintaining of face", smooth dissembling and polite manipulation & enthusiastic farewell ?
I'll bet the Vietnamese were quietly reassuring themselves with an internal " we won the war GI Joe" line while they smiled and shook hands through to waving goodbye.
I'll bet those least able to control outward displays of true emotional response to Trump's blundering displays were the professional US diplomats from the State Dept

So Octavious our Oracle, might I suggest that being outwardly "sung praises" by Chinese, Koreans, Japanese is not axiomatic proof that Trump is genuinely much loved and admired by those effusive hosts.
Octavious (1636 D)

See, what you've done there, Major, is take your own opinions of Trump and assume that everyone of reasonable intelligence in the world must share them. When the evidence doesn't seem to back that up you've applied a popular Asian stereotype to explain away the contradictions.

Samantha Bee on guns: https://youtu.be/iBuKbe40uWM

Ban those found guilty of domestic abuse from owning guns, you will see a dramatic reduction in mass shootings (Note: not just banning them from buying new guns, need to confiscate their current guns aswell).
KansasBoyd (25 D X)

Many states already have those restrictions in place.

There are roughly 900 homicides a year involving guns by a intimate partner.

There are over 10,000 deaths a year from drunk driving.

So if you are really serious about saving lives, wouldn't you then ban anyone suspected, charged or convicted of a DUI for buying a new car and confiscating their current cars as well?

It might appear easy to dismiss the cultural heritage of a nation whose people were writing on silk when most Europeans were illiterate savages in comparison. Diplomacy skills have spread, but imho it's a mistake to underestimate the abilities of the original masters of it's dark arts.
Many of my oafish countrymen have learnt painful lessons from their experiences. Fortunately we now have significant numbers of people from Asia as part of our nation and they are helping us "lift our game".

You gotta love the Silly Shirt collection though..

YES MM aside from the Mongols who fucked up everyone they encountered China has one of the longest strongest cultures around..if you think its all party politics and peasants you have really missed the last couple of thousand years. Not a quick evolution of social structure but sure and steady like a tortoise.
shigzeo (1080 D)
17 Nov 17 UTC
Silk: yep, the majority of people in Asia or anywhere not Europe were writing on silk. But Europeans were illiterate. How many is that in Asia that could write? Hell, Mai did away with half the writing system because people couldn’t write or read.

That Europeans were illiterate compared to other cultures is a myth. Literacy is a pretty damn new thing whereas it was previously part of the aristocracy and spilled out from there not far.

What does Bhm. Sea stand for in the modern map version?
In the modern map, there's a territory named Bhm. Sea. What does that stand for? I always assumed Bohemian Sea though that doesn't exist (and the sea isn't close to Bohemia). Perhaps it is Bornholm Sea (after the Danish island in the Baltic in that area)?
