What does Bhm. Sea stand for in the modern map version?
In the modern map, there's a territory named Bhm. Sea. What does that stand for? I always assumed Bohemian Sea though that doesn't exist (and the sea isn't close to Bohemia). Perhaps it is Bornholm Sea (after the Danish island in the Baltic in that area)?

Identification Methods
For a story I'm writing, I need an adult who has lost his memory to not be easily identifiable. How do I make this feasible?
For instance, I expect the Dutch government to have the fingerprints of Dutch citizens. Do legal immigrants or people with a refugee status have their fingerprints taken as well? Would illegal immigrants or tourists from countries that don't take fingerprints make for a solid storyline? Are there other options?

Known World 901 - Playable?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm fairly new around here. I'm looking through the variant maps, and I see one that looks like a lot of fun, the Known World 901 map. On the Variants page, it lists it as active, but when I go to create a new game I don't see it as an option to select.

An open discussion about elaborate ways to restore reliability rating
I was thinking how there are members on this site who ruined their Reliability early and can never restore it to the 90th %tile. What if we did a series of experiments on these people. Hook them up to machines. Or perhaps put them in a room full of rats and see if they survive. The goal being we develop a way that someone could go from a 13% RR to a mighty 78%

Obviously all moves have a huge impact at this stage in the game, but which ones do you think change the flow of the game the most?

My nomination is A MOS-StP.

That’s really hard. I’d say any of:
Ankara -> Armenia
Moscow -> St.Petersburg
Warsaw -> Silesia
Venice -> Tyrolia
Venice-> Piedmont

Really Russia and Italy can control the flow of a game by a lot. It’s one of the beauties of the IR alliance.

Turkey getting 1 build is average, and still plausible with a CON - H. Even a 0 build Turkey isn't the end of the world as it's very defensible and it might cause some A/I bickering as a result of it.

Germany almost certainly loses a build out of Kie-H and completely changes the dynamic in the West. It doesn't have the defensive benefits of Turkey, so I'd say it's the bigger effect here.
ghug (5068 D(B))
11 Nov 17 UTC
If Germany is still moving its other units, two builds are still possible unless England is opposed and France doesn't feel charitable. A Turk not in Con is at the mercy of both Austria and Russia, who both benefit greatly from making it impossible for him to ever break out into the Balkans. I'm not sure the benefit is as clear-cut for E/F.
Ogion (3817 D)
11 Nov 17 UTC
I'd go with Mos to Stp, or Smyrna to Ankara, because either reshapes all the potential alliances in the south. The closest analogue in the north might be Kiel to Holland or Either London or Brest (but not both) to EC.
ghug (5068 D(B))
11 Nov 17 UTC
I feel like Italy in Tyo/Tri and Russia in Gal are a bigger deal than Smy-Arm or Mos-StP.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

NMRs are the only "moves" that get games cancelled, so logically they have the biggest effect. You don't see games being cancelled due to gambits after all! I suppose we can think logically by going through them all though, to find which single unit has the most consequences of an NMR.

Firstly you need to rule out any unit which holds in place semi-regularly courtesy of bounces or holds anyway, as in those situations they wouldn't be gaining SCs regardless. So there goes Lon, all 3 French units, Mun, Ven, Tri, Vie, War, Sev, Ank.

Then you can rule out units which can only take SCs via convoy or ridiculous circumstance: Lvp, Rom, Smy.

So that leaves a shortlist of Edi, Kie, Ber, STP, Mos, Bud, Con, Nap.

So then we evaluate how often each of those gains an SC for its country in 01.

Edi: Norway is guaranteed under an Nwg/Nth opening but otherwise can be blocked by Russia, which isn't that unusual. No go.

Kiel: Either Den or Hol is guaranteed no matter what. Only England can border than unit in A01, so even if Germany then NMRs then it takes the SC.

Berlin: Usually takes the other of Hol/Den, but can be stopped by an aggressive England. No go.

STP: Bounced in Sweden quite regularly. No go.

Moscow: No move Moscow makes can guarantee Rumania if AT combine from the off. No go.

Budapest: 99% certain to take Serbia if it wants, as it can only be stopped in the ridiculous scenario of Italy or Turkey supporting the other into Ser with neither Austrian unit tapping Tri after leaving it open for him.

Constantinople: Can be prevented from gaining Bulgaria if AR work together from the start and Russia successfully deceives Turkey (Probably by enticing Turkey to move Ank into the med). No go.

Naples: 100% certain to take Tunis if it wants.

So the only two with 100% guarantees are Naples and Kiel, though you can add Budapest under realistic conditions. As CD Italy in a 6 man game is a commonly played format, and nobody else can take Tunis in 01 even if Italy NMRs, we can rule out Naples. Leaving it as Kiel or Budapest.

Austria being obliterated quickly isn't particularly unusual regardless of the Serbia situation, whereas Germany is usually ok til the midgame at worst. So I think Kiel H affects the overall dynamic more.

I feel like you're smart enough to know that there's more to Diplomacy than SCs, and even if we allow that very questionable premise, a lot of your logic is questionable. I don't think anyone actually thinks CD Italy is a good solution to the six-player issue. Con can be assured in 1901 (unless X convinces you to move poorly could be said of any guaranteed center). Germany can feasibly still get two centers with Kiel holding. Units that bounce don't necessarily bounce often. Austria getting steamrolled isn't so common as to be assumed.
