Remove the no orders/saved/ready icons
There are 10 minutes to go and still !! is shown next to a country. It's probably going to NMR. This allows countries around it to make moves that they normally wouldn't confident that the sensible supports and moves to SCs won't take place. Which unbalances the game.

If the icons were removed then it is less obvious that an NMR is about to happen. Is there a reason for the icons that I'm missing?

CD vs NMR
I'm looking at my CD's and NMR's, and I noticed that in one game that I had a Civil Disorder, it gave me 12 NMR's, another CD 3 NMR's, and then the rest of my CD's I have 0 NMR's. Can anyone explain how this works and why there's such a huge discrepancy on this? And is this also a "double jeopardy" against my Reliability Rating to count NMR's and CD's from the same game? This part has always confused me. Thanks!

New Zealand has a new Prime Minister
Labour did a full coalition deal with our weird centrist version of UKIP, so that'll be interesting. Greens to make up the numbers with confidence and supply in exchange for policy concessions and ministers outside of cabinet. I for one am cautiously optimistic about the coalition of chaos.

Refugees.. Does Uganda treat refugees better than many wealthy Nations ?
More refugees from South Sudan entered Uganda in the last 12 months than entered Europe. Uganda allows them to enter, to work, gives many a small plot of land to farm. To appease locals in regional areas where refugees settle the Government allocates 30% of aid to local communities. My own Nation, Australia, a relatively wealthy nation treats some refugees well, but others with harsh treatment, incarceration in detention camps.

It's not uplifting at all, Brainbomb, don't be silly.

Leon is absolutely right - it's sad that too often, when a woman has the courage to report rape or sexual assault, she faces a battle to get the authorities to believe her. More still needs to be done to support victims of sexual abuse and to bring abusers to justice, and Leon is right to draw attention to this case, which is an example of the problem.

Jamiet - why do you think Leon brought up this particular story?? Leon was 'not' right to bring up attention to this particular case - as horrific as it is. Many many examples of white men who commit sex crimes but he brings up this story.

Hear that? Sex crimes don't count unless white men perpetrate them.
Your moral compass needs a retuning.
ghug (5068 D(B))

Precisely the opposite. Leon is happy to tell us to look at what she was wearing or scream lack of proof when a white man rapes a woman. He's most certainly never posted a thread vilifying a white man for rape. He's drawing attention to this because of the race of the rapist.

This is a very shitty thing, but don't pretend for a second that you think Leon is telling us about it for any motive other than racism.
President Eden (2750 D)

Bullshit ghug. The race of the perpetrators is made relevant by the fact that the government dragged a *victim* to court because she accused a man of Arabic descent of raping her. White men committing sex crimes have nothing to do with this thread.
I guess making up motives and "whataboutism" is okay when the left does it.
Retune your moral compass too.
Bladerunners (1014 D)

President Eden - I think horrific whether a person of any race commits a crime .... you and Leon are saying it is worse when a non-white does it. Shame on you.

It's not whataboutism. It's questioning Leon's motives. You're even acknowledging that his motive was racial, so you don't disagree with my argument.

If you want to argue that this one case of a man getting away with something for too long because of his race is an issue, be my guest. If you want to argue that it's an issue endemic to society, or that it overshadows the country's other race issues, you can do that too, though it'd be pretty fucking ridiculous and probably amount to racism in its own right. If you want to claim that Leon isn't being a racist, you're truly lost.
Where did either of us say anything of the sort?
President Eden (2750 D)

"It's not whataboutism. It's questioning Leon's motives."
You are questioning them because he didn't also post some random story about a white man raping someone. You brought up white men when they aren't related to the case at all to distract from the troubling fact that one facet of the British government apparently thinks that prosecuting white female rape victims for claiming that their rapist was Arabic is appropriate. How is that not "whataboutism"?

"You're even acknowledging that his motive was racial, so you don't disagree with my argument."

I didn't say that. I said that the race of the perpetrators was made relevant by the government's decision to *try to prosecute the victim* because she accused an Arabic man of raping her. That is NOT saying that the crime is worse because the perpetrator is nonwhite. That is saying that the situation is worse because the government took an inane attitude toward the case due to the races of the perpetrator and victim involved. Beyond the government's attitude toward the case, the man's race is irrelevant to the situation -- but the story IS the government's attitude toward the case.

Explain how any of this is racist.

So, I am trying to understand Bladerunners thoughts here.

A woman accuses a man of rape, and because he is Arab, SHE is taken to court for, as it says in the article "blatant racism"

Now, BR, if I may call you such, is she being racist for calling a Muslim a rapist? Explain to me how accusing someone of being a rapist (if that can be proven) is racist, if he indeed did the crime?

Nobody here defended a single white rapist, but you had to certainly bring it into the conversation.

I really am trying to figure out wtf you are talking about
Stressedlines (1559 D)

The government charging the VICTIM of the rape is the real crime here, nothing else. Nobody else made light of anything else, except the 1984 bullshit going on in this case
ghug (5068 D(B))

I didn't call you a racist. I called Leon a racist who he is. You might be too, but I don't know yet.

Whataboutism would be arguing that the guy's crime or the miscarriage of justice is somehow lessened by the fact that white men do it too. Nobody has done that. White men were brought up to make a point about Leon's motives.

This case is rather unique, and The Orwellian BS of the world, like in this case, should be called out. This sets a very dangerous precedent
President Eden (2750 D)

Bladerunners specifically said that the case shouldn't have even been discussed here because we didn't also talk about white men raping people. That is explicitly whataboutism as you're defining it. And I know you're just going to play word games here, but whether you want to admit it or not, making unprovable and unfounded attacks on leon's motives and character for bringing this up is in the same class of tactics for derailing discussion and is just as wrong as whataboutism, even if it's not the by-the-letter definition of whataboutism.

You are both trying to derail a thread intended to shed light on another example of the serious problem within the ranks of the British government of neglecting or actively covering up sex crimes committed by people of Arabic descent against British minors by attacking the motives of the people pointing out these examples. You are part of the problem and your mentality is the reason why the British government made such inane decisions in this case.
ghug (5068 D(B))

I'm inferring motive from Leon because he's Leon. This forum suffers because it banned things that drove all the smart people away but lets really dispicable people get away with expressing dispicable beliefs by staying technically within the rules. I'll call Leon out for his racism when I see it, and your claiming that he didn't explicitly say something doesn't change the fact that this is that.

Is this a serious problem? I see this example, and it sucks. If there are more examples, I'd be saddened but interested to hear about them.
President Eden (2750 D)

Probably the most famous one is described here in a Wikipedia article. It is a much larger scale of a situation, which means that there are more factors at play than the simple and straightforward case in the OP, but concern for looking racist was one (of multiple) key factors in the failure of the government in this case to address the sex crimes in a reasonable and timely manner.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotherham_child_sexual_exploitation_scandal

I can't recall anymore in Britain in recent memory, but that is probably enough reading.

"I'm inferring motive from Leon because he's Leon."

the fact that this isn't ironic is the greatest part of this thread.

in many arabic countries, women who even have the required number of witnesses to the assault step forward, end up being prosecuted on a separate charge of adultery anyways.

this isn't unique to the arab world, but it does occur there quite often.

in Yeovil, a girl accuses an arabic man of sexual assault. we should be extra vigilant in destroying any and ALL cultural links to such disgusting practices in other governments, so when this situation arises, we should hold the law up to fair scrutiny.

for the UK, the charge of racial abuse is disgusting, and we should try to wipe that out.

all observations are objectively in line with modern, western, secular democracies.

the point of this thread isn't just to expose a rape that occurred, but to expose the rationale for why the government is seemingly blaming the victim.
MajorMitchell (1600 D)
06 Nov 17 UTC
When I first read the thread "headed" & before I'd opened the thread my initial thoughts were: 1 This looks like yet another example of a victim being further victimised by the system that is supposed to protect them. The race and sex of the victim and alleged abuser are "on one hypothetical level" irrelevant, as is whether or not there is a "sexual" component in the abuse.
My second thought was, I know nothing about the specifics of the particular case, so beware of jumping to a conclusion. Eg This is what happens in certain nations but not in others. Such as, this is what happens in Saudi Arabia but not in the USA.

Then I opened the thread. Carumba. Now I am hopeless at looking up http/mish mash of symbols& letters things.
So because I am not going to spend time confirming to myself that I am hopeless at that caper & even if I did find whatever "source", I have my doubts that reading the quoted source would be the same as having full access to all the information in the way a solicitor working on the actual case might have.

So I will instead be restrained and say that it is my opinion that victims of abuse of both sexual and non sexual abuse are often further victimised by authorities who are supposed to protect them, investigate their complaint and act upon their complaint.
Typically this occurs when the victims are less empowered than their abusers, but not always it must be emphasised.

Because of the somewhat vitriolic nature of parts of the discussion that has occurred within this thread I choose to limit what I will post.

The targeted rape of sikh, hindu, jewish and christian girls by islamic rape gangs in britain is a societal problem of a scale nobody here I think truly appreciates.

While somebody linked to the Rotherham scandal - one of the more egregious examples of this - it is far from the only one reported, and thousands more go unreported or uninvestigated because of an unjustified charge of racism against the people willing to even admit that there is a serious structural problem in our society, let alone the people who investigate it.

Since I am local to one of the areas marked on the map in this area I can tell you that the seriousness of the problem is very much underplayed, even in articles like this one. But you don't have to take my word for it I guess, I am a "troll" after all.
