Are countries assigned randomly?
New to this site here, so sorry if this is answered elsewhere that I didn't find. Are countries assigned randomly when a game starts? (I'm noticing in the Championship Belt Game Series that xorxes always plays Austria and captainmeme always plays France, but have not found any setting for choosing a country or assigning preferences or anything.)

Uber is kind of cool
So, I dont actually plan to spend money. But I downloaded this cool app called uber. I think its like, taxi cabs or toy cars or something. But they move. They wiggle around and travel places on this cool map that looks a little like real life. I watched this one car strolling down a highway. This is neat. How do I take over one of these cartoon car thingys

Incomplete orders on the small preview map are a problem.
Not all orders (most notably support orders) are shown on the small preview map of a game and, especially in Gunboat, this is pretty problematic.

Child Abuse commisson finishes in Australia.
Smokey Gem (154 D)
31 Oct 17 UTC
The Commision into Child abuse has wrapped up in Aussie land.

A recommedation has come out that people who were sexually abused in government institutions should be given compensation $150 000 . Im not interedt in the sum but the caveat.

No one who has been abused and then commiteed child abuse themselves and were jailed are entitled to compensation. But surely some of those people may not have ended up with the life they have if not for the initial abuse in government insitutins. Yet surely giving money to child sex offenders is worng ..discuss and please be mindfull and repectfull given the topic .

Yep. Abusers most frequently were abused themselves. A child who hits is a child who is hit, they say.

Is a person who is abused as a child in a government institution entitled to compensation as an adult if they also become a child abuser. ??

@ MamaLama A fetus is not even a child yet

that statement ^ is not true. science shows that a fetus is a child:

Basic human embryological facts

To begin with, scientifically something very radical occurs between the processes of gametogenesis and fertilizationthe change from a simple part of one human being (i.e., a sperm) and a simple part of another human being (i.e., an oocyteusually referred to as an "ovum" or "egg"), which simply possess "human life", to a new, genetically unique, newly existing, individual, whole living human being (a single-cell embryonic human zygote). That is, upon fertilization, parts of human beings have actually been transformed into something very different from what they were before; they have been changed into a single, whole human being. During the process of fertilization, the sperm and the oocyte cease to exist as such, and a new human being is produced.

It's only fair that the same compensation is given to all the victims, regardless of what happened in their lives after the event. There should also be a law that requires abusers themselves to pay into a compensation fund, by way of a tax on all income set at 50% of all regular income over minimum wage and 100% of all one off sources of income, such as lottery wins or compensation payments.
Ogion (3817 D)

Yeah. Please see the other hypothetical where forced brother slavers admit that they don't see en embryo as even 1/1,000 of a human being

-Veta Louise Simmons: Judge Gaffney, is that all those doctors do in places like that, think about sex?
-Judge Gaffney: I don't know.
-Veta Louise Simmons: Because if it is they ought to be ashamed of themselves. It's all in their heads anyway. Why don't they get out and take long walks in the fresh air? Judge Gaffney walked everywhere for years, didn't you, Judge?

Octavious makes an interesting suggestion. First, the proposal that all victims of institutional child abuse receive compensation, in my opinion has merit, all "victims" are equally treated. It's well recognised that abusers were often victims of abuse themselves.
In most Australian states there are "Victims of crime" compensation schemes, so in cases where they have paid out compensation, they seek to recover the monies paid to victims from the convicted perpetrators.
So if person x is a victim of child abuse and has themselves been convicted of committing any criminal act ( so assault, robbery etc as well as abuse of a minor ) where a victim received compensation, then when person x is paid compensation the "Victims of crime" compensation schemes will quickly seize that compensation payment, take "what they want" then pass on any remaining money to person x.
Australian Governments have got extremely good at seizing assets of and payments to criminals over recent decades.
So I suggest that denying compensation to victims of institutional child abuse who have committed crimes will simply stop the recovery of compensation paid to their victims.

Very good point and a clincher I think
MajorMitchell (1600 D)

Unfortunately Ogion, the ability of our media and "individuals with agendas" to engage in shallow, hysterical, alarmist nonsense regarding child abusers should not be underestimated, nor the overly sensitive nature of most politicians to this. So the decision to deny compensation to various scapegoats is rather predictable. It's also a convenient distraction that embarrassed public officials and Politicians can use to demonstrate that they are "not soft on child abusers" and take attention away from their own incompetence and culpability.
In my State the department responsible for "families and children" has a much tarnished reputation, and was only recently severely criticised by an experienced Judge.

@CroakandDagger. Australia is a civilised Nation that no longer has the "death penalty" We do however imprison for life those very few criminals whose crimes warrant such punishment. There's no "easy out" for such criminals, they are imprisoned in prisons that are in global terms well resourced and well run. Our treatment of refugees is something of a disgrace.
The USA might be reinventing in a 21st century way the Fuedal society structure of the 12th century, but I think/hope we will decline to follow that trend along with several other Nations.

I think Apt Brad still has me muted so I won't bother responding on this occasion to his rantings. If he "un mutes" me I might respondf further than pointing out the obviously illogical nature of his assertion that once an egg is fertilised in the human womb a "single whole human being" suddenly exists. A "single whole human being" comes into existence at birth and not before. Bringing "abortion issues" into this thread is, imho stupid and simply a classic Apt Brad unhelpful interference.

See title. I started playing it about a month ago. It's quite fun and a very different challenge from Diplomacy. I'm still getting my head wrapped around the editions, but I believe my group plays the "Classic" version (Spring 1942 start and there are no artillery, destroyers, etc.)

A friend and I are also working on a "present-day" version.
