Refugees.. Does Uganda treat refugees better than many wealthy Nations ?
More refugees from South Sudan entered Uganda in the last 12 months than entered Europe. Uganda allows them to enter, to work, gives many a small plot of land to farm. To appease locals in regional areas where refugees settle the Government allocates 30% of aid to local communities. My own Nation, Australia, a relatively wealthy nation treats some refugees well, but others with harsh treatment, incarceration in detention camps.

1v1 Showdown - The Grand Final
110 Players. 500 Games. 2 Finalists.

After 10 months, it’s time to decide the Showdown’s victor.

XORXES, the undisputed king of GR and the captain of the ‘Rest of the World’ team in the 1v1 Ryder Cup, qualified for the final through the Winners’ Bracket two months ago when he emerged victorious in the semi-final against Mercy. He has had an absolutely incredible run, winning almost every set 2-0; only dropping one game over the course of the tournament (against mscott in Round 3).

After finishing in second place in the Spring Champion’s League, he’s looking to make the Showdown his first 1v1 tournament win. He has a very good chance at it too - as the tournament is Double Elimination and he has yet to be defeated, he has 2 ‘Lives’ going into the Final. He’s the bookies’ favourite - but there’s always the chance of an upset!

MERCY will be the other finalist, having just emerged as victor of the Losers’ Bracket after defeating Goldfinger0303 2-0. Initially seeded 78th, he was a massive underdog from the start and just kept pulling off upset after upset, getting all the way to the semifinals before falling in the match against xorxes. Of the top 12 players, 4 of them were sent to the Losers’ Bracket by Mercy, which shows the high class of competition he was faced with throughout - he’ll be looking to make that 5 by beating xorxes twice here.

With 1500 diplomacy points and the title of Showdown Champion on the line, it’s all to play for.

SET 218 - THE GRAND FINAL

After 500 games, were wins skewed towards France or Austria?
captainmeme (846 D Mod)
18 Oct 17 UTC
DaddyO - At the early stages, it looked like Austria was heavily favoured, but France's stats made a comeback later on in the tournament. It's thought that Austria is easier for inexperienced players to play due to the fact that a 'rush SCs' strategy can work well, whereas France requires knowledge of stalemate lines and some more in-depth thought on when to prioritise positioning over Supply Centers.

I'm planning to compile all the stats after the tournament has ended :)

@Demon - No t-shirts, sorry, but you can print out these official 1v1 Showdown posters and hang them up on your wall.

Congratulations to XORXES!

With a 2-0 win over Mercy in the final, Xorxes takes the title of 1v1 Showdown Champion and the grand prize of 1500 points. It's well deserved after only losing one game through the entire tournament!

Full results can be found here: http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/1v1-showdown/1v1-showdown-2017

Prizes will be distributed very shortly!

Btw - is there a variant of 1v1 where you start with an empty map and choose to build on 1 sc (fleet or army), then the opponent does the same and then you start playing normally?
ghug (5046 D (B))
05 Nov 17 UTC
If you pick the same center do you both lose?

(I love this idea)
Djantani (433 D)

You can't pick what the other has already picked - but if you play 2 games you get to pick first once

So, my hope is to run two of these simultaneously next year - one for FvA, one for GvI. Signups will likely be starting at the end of December.

I still need to talk to the Mods about this, but my idea is that if you get a prize in both tournaments, your prize for both will be doubled. So (assuming the prizes are the same as this time), if you came first in FvA and did not place in a prize position for GvI, you'd win the first place prize (1500 points), but if you came first in FvA and 13th in GvI, both prizes would be doubled (so you'd win 1500*2 + 50*2 = 3100 points). The ultimate prize would of course be coming first in both, in which case you would win 6000 points - but that would be extremely difficult to achieve.

I want to do this to incentivise people who specialise in one variant to at least try branching out to the other. Thoughts?

I'm new here can someone please explain how the NMR and CD rules work here. How many times can a power NMR before they go into CD. What happens to the game if one of the powers goes CD? Is it canceled, paused? What happens to your bet? Do you just get it back?

Are countries assigned randomly?
New to this site here, so sorry if this is answered elsewhere that I didn't find. Are countries assigned randomly when a game starts? (I'm noticing in the Championship Belt Game Series that xorxes always plays Austria and captainmeme always plays France, but have not found any setting for choosing a country or assigning preferences or anything.)

Uber is kind of cool
So, I dont actually plan to spend money. But I downloaded this cool app called uber. I think its like, taxi cabs or toy cars or something. But they move. They wiggle around and travel places on this cool map that looks a little like real life. I watched this one car strolling down a highway. This is neat. How do I take over one of these cartoon car thingys

Incomplete orders on the small preview map are a problem.
Not all orders (most notably support orders) are shown on the small preview map of a game and, especially in Gunboat, this is pretty problematic.
