Conservatives' edumacated people iz so stooped thread
We get it. You hate smart people and those who have made the effort to educate themselves. Scientists and scholars are so elite and are all prize idiots and are nothing compared to the brilliance of high school drop outs from the "heartland".

University Professor fired over tweet
A University of Tampa Sociology professor was fired after tweeting Hurricane Harvey was karma for Texas for voting for Trump.

How very classy.

Yet the mainstream, mostly liberal, media continues to push the false narrative that many have been brainwashed with that only the alt right is hateful, violent and racist.

There is hate, violence and racism on all sides these days, but to point that out gets nothing but scorn from the liberals no matter how true it is.

Nothing will get solved until everyone realizes that the above is true.

Of course.

I mean, there are dollars in my bank account as well as dollars in Warren Buffett's bank account. Doesn't mean we have the same amount of money.

I mean... Louisiana voted for GW Bush... and they got Katrina. Its a dumb thing to tweet. If anything its Karma for settling a massive city in a low lying area along a gulf coast.

But there is no correlation between voting trump and deserving your life to be destroyed. This wouldve happened regardless of who was president.

So he defo deserves to be fired or reprimanded for saying something that stupid when he represents a major educational institution
brainbomb (295 D)

Why on earth would there be any correlation between who you vote for and natural disasters happening to you?

Realistically even someone who hates Trumps climate policies has to admit that China and India and producing tons more Emissions. Yea his policies are bullshit but hardly the proven cause of Harvey. Youd have to invent some pretty absurdist psuedo science to link trumps policies to causing a hurricane to form.

Unless

*tinfoil theory* Trump fired up HARPER storm generator in alaska and targeted Texas so he could have a real crisis to look Presidential during*?

Really? Can we fire Trump for his tweets?

I agree with brainbomb - if anything, this is karma for settling in a city at low elevation near the coast in a historical hurricane zone. It was bound to happen at some point, although climate change factors may have increased the risk or made it worse.
I live in coastal California myself, and I expect a "karma" hit of an earthquake at some point in my life. I just hope it's not too bad and I come out of it ok with my loved ones - that's the price for living in this beautiful area. Which doesn't explain why you would choose to live in or near Houston...

Over here n the UK, Trump is getting credit for handling Harvey better than GWB dealt with Katrina.

Although it pains me to say it, Trump's management style probably quite suits itself to dealing with emergency situations.

Maybe that's why he seems so intent on generating as many as possible.

How hard is it to show up. Help constituents. And pony up the relief money. Its not like hes out there putting down sandbags. It doesnt take much to be better than Bush. With all respect to Trump, Bush was the worst president in Anerican history. He couldnt even show up to New Orleans for almost a week. By the time he got there the place was rat infested, flooded, tons of looting, people trapped in the superdome and bush said

"Yer doing a heck of a job here brownie"
KansasBoyd (25 DX)

And this is exactly why no progress is being made and there is more division in this country than I can remember.

The point of a liberal spewing hate and ignorance is ignored in favor of any excuse to further the hate against the President and the Right.

It's still too early to tell whether this is as Trump said the model for dealing with disasters or the model to avoid. Almost all the work has been done by Texas agencies and not FEMA.

Right now people are being told to file lawsuits over insurance claims before September 1 when the new Texas law takes effect making it harder to get paid and at a lower interest rate.

Congress isn't going to provide disaster relief money until officially asked.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is among Republicans who have previously insisted that aid for natural disasters be offset by spending cuts.

Fired? That's extreme. Then again I guess those pastors who say every bad thing in California is God's punishment don't work at universities

If there is karma, it'd be for being obstinate about dealing with carbon emissions.

As far as "wacko reasons for this event happening" we could look to those wacky westboro religious fanatics, who might claim this is "God's punishment" for the incremental moves to give the GLBT community equal rights in the USA.
Getting to the original question posed in this thread. I am interested in how the Chinese Communist Party is evolving in the way it rules China. They've moved on from the "cult of a Great Leader" model used by Mao, and in some ways have become a "meritocracy of autocrats", albeit with imperfections.
I think the rulers of China clearly put China's interests as they perceive them, first and foremost. However they seem to be quite willing to "listen seriously" to their Scientists and Engineers, and give the advice of that community significant influence in policy decisions. Which I regard as "good", for China, and perhaps also for the " global community ".
At some cost to individual freedom, the Chinese rulers can dictate "social engineering solutions", can enforce policy implementation more effectively than a disfunctional and bitterly divisive democracy like the USA.
There's a huge Chinese " transportation project " in it's formative stages..a railway project mainly, aimed at building the capacity to transport bulk freight West from China to the Middle East and Europe. I am wondering just how they will "power those freight trains" and speculate that it won't be with diesel derived from crude oil. It might be with "bio fuel" or electricity.. and if it's electricity, then how will it be generated ? The way China generates electrical power is really interesting. They've clearly realised that burning coal innefeciently is not a viable long term method.
With it's billions of people, China has a huge stake in avoiding environmental catastrophe. The Chinese people won't reward rulers who fail to ensure their collective safety and well being.

Biggest game of all time?
Would it be appropriate/allowable to have commentary on the biggest game of all time? I ask because it is an anon gunboat game. But it seems like the type of game people could learn from like school of war.

Ghost Ratings and CD Takeovers
Do the Ghost Ratings include games where the player takes over a CD? If a player regularly takes over CDs in a more or less hopeless position does it effectively screw up the player's ghost rating?

And, finally, why do I keep taking over hopeless CDs and should I seek professional help?

Interesting concept game here - players are paired on the Modern Diplomacy II map. Unfortunately, we're about to lose one player (game currently paused) and might lose another, although we hope he's able to return. So looking for one more - more details follow...

Talking to other Players
Just wondering what other people think about how to communicate to other players. Some players go over the top and just write way to much, in my opinion. On the other hand there are people, like me, who keep it direct and to the point. Which way is best?
