Who are we ?
Hello guys... Nearly all of us use 'pseudonyms' to register and to play. I was just wondering who we are ?

I am 45 and live at Liège (French speaking side of Belgium). I am an engineer in physics and currently CTO in a small company working in the field of X-rays.

I have been playing at diplomacy (the boardgame...) since 1987. At the time it was in FtF and a good way to lose friends. ;-) About 20 years I was playing on 'frog' (a French webserver for diplomacy currenlty inactive). Last year I felt like playing 'diplo', discovered this website and registered... Now here I am. And that's quite fun :-)

I am in my late forties, and I am an environmental and energy lawyer and PhD evolutionary biologist from Marin County, California (the northern side of the golden gate bridge. ) I work on energy policy trying to bring California and other states to remove barriers to the deployment of renewable energy. I have three kids, two teenagers and a six week old. (Some of you had gracious pauses for that one!). I used to play as a kid and found this site when I decided I wanted to play again thirty years later. Ogion is a character from A Wizard of Earthsea

I'm a 26 year old getting my Ph.D. in chemistry at MIT in a synthetic biology lab studying quorum sensing systems for genetic circuits. I have no kids.

VALIS is the name of a Philip K Dick novel; Project 2501 is a character from Ghost In The Shell.

Hi,

I just turned fifty and I am neither Crazy nor an Anglican. The name came from a T-Shirt that read "Yes I am one of those crazy Episcopalians" that was worn in the church I got married in. Currently I attend the Methodist church, in my hometown. I am a language arts teacher with a Masters degree in Secondary English Education. Married for twenty plus years, I have three kids a ten year old and two teenagers.

Hi,
I'm a first-year bachelor student at the University College of Twente doing a very multidisciplinary and awesome study called ATLAS. I'm also entrepreneuring. My company is called Broad Expert. If you want to discover what I do, I recommend going to Facebook (facebook.com/broadexpert) rather than the website because the website has very outdated information at the moment. Feel free to leave a like while you're at it ;-)
Obviously you can also ask me questions, always happy to explain.
Although technically I should be stressing very hard about my deadlines right now, so I might take a bit longer to react than normal.

Greeting Folks,

I am an Australian. I live in the wheatbelt of WA.
I support people with severe mental illnesses and have a passion for real equality.
I used to play board dip with my dad when i was in my early teens and avalon hill startegy games . Wanted to play again 30 or more years later found this site and Vdip ( for variety).

Smokey Gem is a left over chararter from my bacis D&D days .. sort of a rogue assassin. Sometimes the charcter affects the way I play..

I use dip for my mental health and to escape to a world conquere fantasy.

4 kids expecting a couple of grandies by end of june/ july this year..

nice to read someof the profiles ..I am also on linked in..

Random? Do you know what the odds are that you randomly get the same 2-digit sequence twice in a row? ;-)

I guess that's a chance of one in 100 actually, or am I thinking too simple now?
CommanderByron (869 D (S))

Technically it's not 1 in 100 but 1 in 10000

Since the first two digits can literally be any 2 digit combination; but then you have to choose those exact 2 digits in order which is a 1 in 10000 shot I believe someone check my math.
Zybodia (355 D)
19 Jun 17 UTC
Getting *any* repeating sequence is 1 in 100. Getting a *particular* sequence is 1 in 10000.

Not a math guy here (at all), but how about if we just decide that jason had no specific intent or design for the four numbers he placed after his name?

my entire username is randomly generated, from a character set specifically chosen from single keystrokes on a standard PC computer keyboard. it took my pentium III roughly 10 years to generate the username, but at last, I am here in randomly generated pseudonymous glory to overshare personal information with you all, internet strangers.

I'm Edwin Turnage. I live in North Carolina with my wife. We have chickens, horses, and two American Guinea Hogs. I'm a South Carolina trial attorney by day. By night, I am a huge fan of PKD, and regard him as the greatest of all Sci-fi writers. His best work, imo, is The Clans of the Alphane Moon. I'm a former naval flight officer with nearly 300 traps on the books. However, politically, I'm anti-war, anti-state and dislike both of the establishment political parties in the USA, which are completely corrupt and beholden to their masters: the banksters and large corporations. Mostly, I don't even think about politics. Instead, I love my wife and like to listen to the birds and frogs with her. We raise bees. As for Dip, I'm a ftf player as a preference. But I like playing here too. Keeps me sharp.

I started playing Diplomacy while in college at Butler University in the 70's. I've played on dpjudge, facebook's php, vdip and here, to name a few. I always use a Flashman reference for my username. Flashman is, in my opinion, the greatest historical novel series ever written. I now live in North Carolina, but I've never met eturnage. I try to avoid trial lawyers as a rule.

Wow, all these well established and mature adults.
I'm 22, Canadian, and just finished a chemical engineering degree with a minor in petroleum. Took a month off and now searching for where I want to start my career.
Currently programming virtual reality games as a hobby and will hopefully start a business eventually with some people I know also interested in VR.

I play diplomacy with friends f2f usually but when we go on a dry spell without playing I use this site as an outlet.

All threads proposing ban on topics on the forum always start and end with people insulting everyone on the other side.
If we never propose banning topics, the mods will have to find some other excuse to abuse their power.

Minimum players in classic game
Hi all, my first time creating a game on my own. Is there a way to set the game to only 4 or 5 players for a private game? I didn't see any option and it shows "game will start when all 7 players have joined" now. Thanks for any help!!

Question concerning game rules (pms)
Hi there! I need a public and official reply by a MODERATOR.
If you play a match without anonymous players, but even without private chat (only team chat): Is it allowed to write the other players private messages in order to negotiate? In my opinion everbody see the names of the other players and everybody can write to the other players, so it is a fair system. It is a very important part of this game to negotiate, you know.
How are the official rules?
