Tax dodging and capital flight

Before Jesus took over John's ministry what did people think of the fact that a man in his upper 20s wasn't married and had no children? Wouldn't that have been exceedingly rare at the time?

I am retiring from Trolling

I will henceforth focus my efforts on promoting games, offering opinions on actual issues and an occasional contribution that may be amusing. My goal was never to see the forum overrun with nonsense. Sadly its becoming unreadable and the threads are so abundant that trolling is now all thats happening. Sorry webdip for ushering in this era.

Completely unrelated thought

You can easily walk out the door and abandon your life, start over and become a new person. But can you do the same to your mindset? Can you drop all previous prejudices/perspectives/opinions, (but not facts) and build a new world view? A new model for interacting with reality?

About those earth rays..

Years ago, I started a discussion (and an infrequently used meme) about how I used to have severe headaches as a small child until a small metal device that my parents can't describe very well was buried in the frontyard and my headaches disappeared overnight. My parents cited mythical earth rays as the cause of the problem. The brilliant minds of webdip saw a placebo effect as the only possible answer. I found another possible explanation and would like your thoughts.

Can the President dissolve Congress?

McConnell is fine with Comey firing. Would he be ok with Congress being dissolved? Can it be achieved with martial law in a national emergency?

This was reported by Time Magazine.

Is anyone here aware of what kind of diversity a school with 38k tuition has? Even CAPT_Brad can't afford that!

Online Diplomacy Championship - Second Round Signup

The deadline to signup for the second round of the Online Diplomacy Championship @ PDET 2017 will be May 19 with games starting shortly there after. Players who did not participate in the first round may join the second round.

We had 15 boards in the first round. The participants were from PlayDiplomacy, BOUNCED, DiplomaticCorps, droidippy, Stabberfou, vDip, webDip, and the Face-to-Face community. The guests comprise just over one-third of the participants in the event. The FTF crowd were the largest group of guests with 15 players (including two WDC champs). webDip were the second largest with 11 participants.

Can you give us a more basic breakdown of what this is all about? You know, for people who have no idea about any of this? What is PDET? Where are the games played? FTF folks were playing on-line? What do you mean "guests comprise over one-third of the participants"? Who were the other two-thirds?

The short answer is it's a cross-tournament being hosted over at PlayDip. We did it here last year and this year it's over there.

The Online Diplomacy Championship is the tournament you need to win if you want to prove that you are the best Diplomacy player on the internet. By winning it you'd be given the title of Online Diplomacy Champion, proving that you can not only best the competition on your own site but also that from the multitude of other sites out there.

It rotates around Diplomacy sites - it started on webDip in 2015 and now it's being held over at PlayDip, who are merging it with their PlayDiplomacy Elite Tournament, which is an extremely high quality tournament run over there each year (in fact, it's probably their most important local tournament). This means that the games are being held on PlayDip this year.

PlayDiplomacy usually restricts tournaments to paying members, but due to the nature of ODC this one was open to guests from other sites too (and to the FTF community, quite a few of whom signed up). The guests made up 1/3 of the players in the first round, with the other 2/3 representing PlayDip - it's not unusual for ODC to have a disproportionate number of competitors from the host site, that's hopefully something we'll change over time as the tournament becomes more well-known.

Lastly - Zultar offered a separate prize to anyone representing webDip who wins this tournament, I believe it was 500 D).

In order to play in this tournament, I would assume one must be registered on play diplomacy? Or is it somehow bridged between the many sites?

Would a chimpanzee wearing a suit be more effective at advancing the republican agenda?

Trump has failed to advance most of his agenda. At what point are the investigations such a distraction that it would be better for the republicans to put in a chimpanzee wearing a suit instead?
