NHL sucks
I honestly challenge anyone who obviously knows nothing about hockey to keep high morale when the refs are literally maliciously trying to throw the game. I've never seen worse reffing in a series, and anyone who doesn't realize these are humans that actually get effected when the ref delibrately tries to blow a series against your team, should realize that it makes your team feel like they are skating though glue.

You discover a map to buried treasure
There is a catch. While visiting neighors you find the map in the hands of their infant son. The treasure is likely real as youd heard of the map and its fabled promise. The problem is not just that a child is holding the map- its that the family desperately would need the treasure to pay off their debts or they may end up on the streets starving. However you also know the babys mother and father gamble, drink and are rather unsavory. What do you do?

There's a new robot called the omnibus that does all the work that needs to be done -- faster, cheaper, and more accurately than any human can do. Wrinkle: only one person owns it. Is this a problem or a blessing?

Three Build England, possiblility and effect on game play.
As far as I know, there is only 1 set of moves that gives England 3 1901 builds, what if in a real game, England, Germany, Russia, and France must complete those moves, what will be the diplomatic effect in game?

What makes someone terrible at playing diplomacy
I was wondering if personality traits can make it harder for someone to ever get good at this game. I consider myself pretty average if not mediocre at diplomacy for a number of reasons.

Diplomacy: Is Germany Too Weak?
I noticed that Germany is considerably weaker in Diplomacy than it's historical counterpart. In game, Germany can very easily be knocked out by England and France. However, historically Germany was able to fight competently on three separate fronts. Does anybody feel that Germany is a little misrepresented in game?

Coup in North Korea
I was trying to think why Trump would engage in such brinksmanship with North Korea. Sure, it could be just more inexperience, etc, but then I was thinking that maybe the goal is to scare the generals there so much that someone bumps off the Great Leader. Then I started thinking, that's probably why he rubbed out his half-brother recently.

The Potomac Tea and Knife Society could welcome you with a house game if you are staying long enough.
I don't take the metro often, but I believe blue/yellow is single tracking beyond Pentagon, so if you're flying in and out of Reagan, expect delays. If you plan on using the subway more than once, get a MetroCard. Prices are high enough as it is, and they jack it higher for tourists. Bus is cheaper, and on weekends probably more frequent and just as fast as the subway for getting around downtown.

I mean, are you looking for restaurants, things to do, what? I've lived here four years.

My prime tip is more so regarding your flight. Be careful on united airlines they reserve the right to beat you within an inch of your life to confiscate your seat from you, in the event they overbook. Besides that I'd say don't get anywhere near the president, best not to take chances. You never know when he'll get assasinated and it's best to not be a suspect.

For lunch, the food trucks near the Mall provide pretty good options. For dinner, you can get pretty good food for relatively cheap in Adams Morgan on 18th st NW(take the Woodley park stop on the red line), and northeast of Union Station on H st NE (take the Union Station stop also on the red line). For good quality, but slightly higher priced, food Dupont Circle (also red line) has some good options, as does 14th St NW (U st stop on the green line) and West End (Foggy Bottom stop of silver/blue/orange).

If you're into golf/mini golf, there is a place south of the monuments at East Potomac Park, though you'll need to drive there.

Every day at 6, the Kennedy Center has free performances. I encourage you to check their schedule for the time of your stay, as they usually have good symphonic performances, though they cost some money. For less money, the Atlas performing arts center has some cool local performances.

If you haven't chosen lodging yet, I recommend trying to stay in Rosslyn which is just across the river and provides access to the metro through the Rosslyn stop on the blue/silver/orange line.

I'm happy to answer any questions to which I have answers. I hope you enjoy your stay

I already got a hotel and a flight with Alaska airlines (God forbid i fly with United till they fix their policies). Transportation is taken care of as well.

I guess the main thing I'm looking for is good cheap eats, especially around the national mall. Also things to look for around the monuments and free stuff I can go to like at the Kennedy center.
I like the International Spy Museum. I recommend eating blue crabs at Quarterdeck in Arlington (order in advance). There are relatively few places in the US where you can spread out brown paper on the table and go to town feasting on crabs (and beer!).
@Shifty Lizard the East Potomac Park course is pretty bad... Although cheap.

Go to the Smithsonian museums! and like the Hanged Man says - International spy museum neat as well

The Smithsonian Museums are free and amazing. Plan ahead based on interest. The key ones are Air and Space, American History, Natural History, and others. Check the website. They take from 4 to 6 hours each. They are on the scale of the British Museum or Imperial War Museum in London.

If you are into walking to tourist sites, you can walk from the US Capitol, to the Washington Monument, to the WW2, Vientnam Memorial/Korean and finally the Lincoln Memeorial. It's about two miles, but worth it.

Hmm. I disagree with some of the stuff here.

Smithsonian museums are the obvious must-do stuff. Taken together, they might compare to the British Museum, but I would place the British Museum as the greatest and most impressive museum in the world. American History museum currently has about half its exhibits under renovation. The industrial age/war/american president exhibits are all open though. But not the pop culture one. Air and Space is the one I'm most excited by. If you're into art, the National Gallery is okay, but not as good as the European art museums, or even the Met. I've heard great things about the African-American museum, though there may be long lines for it since its new.

If you're going to a non-Smithsonian museum, I would suggest the Newseum or Holocaust museum over the International Spy Museum.

As for food around the mall, food trucks are honestly the way to go. There are usually dozens of them lined up. Most of the buildings immediately surrounding there are government office buildings, so actual non-chain restaurants (or cheap restaurants, for that matter) are in low supply within a reasonable walking distance. The food trucks tend to be near the Washington monument, on the White House/Capital building sides. If its a weekday, there's usually another group of food trucks within a block or two of air and space museum.

The other food recommendations are fine, although I'd say Dupont is in general overpriced (unless you go north on Connecticut from it) and you're better off Ubering into AdMo rather than taking the metro to Woodley Park and walking. Old Ebbots is a bit expensive, but there's a lot of history there.

Monuments by night can be fun. Less heat, less crowds, and they're all lit up. If you do them during the day, most can be hit running a more or less straight line going Vietnam-Lincoln-Korean-MLK-FDR-Jefferson. The other two big ones are WW2 and the Washington Monument. If you have time and are interested, you can go across the river to see Iwo Jima, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Pentagon (there's a 9/11 memorial there. I'm not 100% on tours of the Pentagon itself, though I've been on one).

As for other free stuff, the National Zoo is in Woodley Park (Yay Pandas!), the National Archives hold the Declaration of Independence and there are tours of the Capital and Library of Congress that are available to the public as well. Do go see those buildings and the Supreme Court (closest metro is Union Station - a beautiful building on its own). The National Building Museum is also interesting if you're into architecture.

Its not free, but Nationals games are super cheap if you like baseball. And the whole waterfront down there by the naval yard is getting pretty built up. If you like gambling, the MGM National Harbor just opened a few months ago, though that is not metro-able. You'd need to drive/cab. For shopping, Georgetown is pretty nice to walk around and do window shopping, though it can get nuts on weekends, and is a very popular brunch area.

Hope that helps some.

Oh, and if you're flying into and out of Dulles, perhaps something you can do on the day you arrive/leave (depending upon how much time you have) is the Air and Space Museum's spare hanger. That's where they keep all the cool stuff that they can't fit into the building along the National Mall. Its practically attached to Dulles. Contains a Concorde, Blackbird, Space shuttle, and more.
TrPrado (461 D)

Okay but what about the suggestion about storming the White House grounds?
JECE (1322 D)
16 Apr 17 UTC
TheBritishGent: Visit the Smithsonian website for most all of the free museums, exhibits and events near the Mall.

Depending on how long you're staying, check out the March for Science on Earth Day (marchforscience.com) or the People's Climate March the following Saturday (peoplesclimate.org). There have been many protest marches in DC since Inauguration Day and all have been peaceful. They're a wonder to see with so many people marching down the streets.

goldfinger0303: MetroCard's are required to use the Metro now.
Are they really? That's why the prices are so high now - they just charge everyone the old tourist price.
@goldfinger0303 I strongly second Newseum and Holocaust Museum > Spy Museum
Shifty Lizard (107 D)
16 Apr 17 UTC
I second that the spy museum is not worth it. Also, if you're into art, while the National Gallery is pretty good, the African Art Museum (located underground just west of Smithsonian Castle) is really an underappreciated gem, especially if you're interested in modern and contemporary art. Similarly, the Hirshorn is really nice if you can get a ticket (it's free) to the current special exhibition. If it ever gets to be too busy, the Titanic memorial at the southwest waterfront is a nice place to relax, though the memorial itself is really nothing to see

"rolling dices"?
I just won a 1v1 against CptMike, however he was getting really angry at me, saying he does not want me to join any more games that he has created, accusing me of "rolling dices". What happened according to me is that I lured him into trying for Munich in Autumn 01, then bouncing him out of there and basically leaving him with only one build.
