Public Shaving
I'm in. There should be a page that has anyone who is unshaven or bearded. And how long are they unkempt. Who likes this? That way sexyness can be shown.

I've heard Playdip has variants and junk. Why do we hang out on Webdip? I can't recall my own reason.

What makes you so smart?
Either y'all are looking shit up before you post or some of you have way too much walking-around knowledge. It's pretty impressive. So really, what makes you smarter than the 99%? (I want to hear about schools, majors, studies, publication.) This question is directed only to people who've written something intelligent. (Sorry, Capt-Brad)

So While the population of the US is about 10x that of Canada, APDA and CUSID are of roughly equal size with a slight edge to APDA, so we are only sending slightly more teams to tournaments and as such your population argument doesn't really apply.

What? Both NAUDC and NorAms had way more American teams than Canada. There's way more schools and way more debaters in the states. Where did you get that they were roughly the same size?
I was thinking more along the lines of Northams 2015. NAUDC and Northams 2016 were held in the US last year
The average APDA tournament usually only has like 65 teams at most, how large is the the average CUSID tournament
Durga (3609 D)
15 Feb 17 UTC
NAUDC was in ottawa this year and I'm fairly certain there were many more American teams. Depends on the season Vash, CP is way smaller than BP - but even BP tournaments can be small with 40-50 teams.

Vash: I don't know shit about debate, so please explain how on earth a motion can be bad.
TrPrado (461 D)
15 Feb 17 UTC
As a member of a mock legislature (which has made me a real sucker for parliamentary procedure), merely seeing the phrase "bad motion," is quite disgusting.
Durga (3609 D)

Vash doesn't know how to debate and somehow thinks slimey cases brought forward by government teams makes for a better debate than usually balanced motions thought out by an adjudication team.

Did someone mentioned debate societies?
I'm not really into those anymore after moving to US since past few years, but my team was winner of the largest debate competition in India. For the curious minds, check out NLS Debate (National Law Society).

I'm not aware about the debate format here in US/Canada, but I presume it must be much more rigorous and competitive.
Condescension (10 D)
16 Feb 17 UTC
@Vashta I'm willing to believe there are more top-top tier debaters in the states, since you've got the Ivy League schools that super smart people from Canada will go to. I don't think there'd be any discrepancies below that tier, though.

If you're studying, reading, or doing homework (especially like essays), I suggest listening to non-lyrical music. I listen to collections from John Williams scores.
Balrog (219 D)

I do that ALL THE TIME.
John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone and Howard Shore are personal favorites.
At times I don't even change the soundtrack and keep it on loop for 5-6 hours while I'm working. (Hand Cover Bruise from The Social N/W)

I like NPR's Intelligence Squared debate format: http://www.npr.org/series/6263392/intelligence-squared-u-s
It's not about who wins this issue, but instead about who shifts a greater percentage of people to their side through the debate. This takes away the advantage of one side starting with a position more favored by a majority or a plurality if there are many undecided people.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

It gives an unfair advantage to the unpopular side.

Taken to the extreme, if everyone is on one side before the debate, that side cannot win.

Coast To Coast: The Various Coasts Of The Board.
There are only three territories on the entire board that have more than one coast—Spain, St. Petersburg, and Bulgaria. For each territory, which coast is the most commonly occupied by a fleet? And for coasts that are unpopular, in what situations might they be occupied?

Italy: What Are The Benefits?
In response to a thread I posted earlier, titled, "Italy Opening Strategy: Early Attack on France?," I decided to post another thread regarding Italy. Italy is the slowest nation to develop, and also the hardest to win with. Are there any benefits to playing Italy? What advantages does Italy have over other players?

Anybody play live games anymore?
When I started on this site years ago, everybody and their mama was playing, a lot of live games happening. I took a few years off and now that I'm back there seems to be a huge drop off in total games being played, and there are NO live games at all. I havent seen one I havent created. None of mine ever get full, or even a few people. What the heck happened?

Alternative French Openings
I'm not a huge fan of playing as France. To be honest, it bores me compared to Germany or Austria. We just had a solid thread on Italian strategy, specifically unexpected opening strategies. What opening(s) have you tried that varied from the norm, and what was the result?

Incorporating WWI Strategies Into Diplomacy: Could It Work?
Diplomacy is set in WWI. Even though it is up to players to play how they like, might it be sensible and feasible to incorporate real-world strategies and plans from WWI into the game? For example, could Germany try the Schlieffen Plan against France? Should Italy go straight for Trieste, as it did in WWI? And should Russia seek to defend Serbia against Austria-Hungary? Thoughts?
