Hi everyone, so based on my personal observations it seems like most high-level players would prosper in the Game of Thrones series. Do you guys think this is accurate? Discuss.

Convoy/support cutting
I want to know how this situation works (example position)
I have fleet TYR and army TUN. Enemy has fleet Rome and Fleet ION.
I convoy TUN to ROME, and he has ROME support Ionian to Tyr. What happens?
Does my army being convoyed cut the support, so everything bounces, or does the fleet in the Ionian knock fleet TYR out?

Will anyone miss the UK?
Sitting here in my armchair sipping Fuller's ESB Ale I just realised that this is a product produced in UK. Will my ESB become more expensive for me when they leave the Union? That's a scary prospective indeed. Wonder if there is anything more of value that I will miss? Need to think some more on this...
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

@Peterlund: Currently it should if anything be getting cheaper as the value of Sterling plummets against the Euro.

However, in a couple of years time, if the UK is unable to negotiate access to the single market, then the price of UK goods in the EU could go up, yes.

The Talisker, Oban and Laphroaig will hopefully remain when Scotland leaves the UK to join the Union. :)

The Mini has already left. It even has a proper German produced engine, and has become popular. Hmm hard to find much.

@the value of Sterling against the Euro: at the moment, the Sterling is on one of the highest point against the Euro, the value is in one of the third highest peaks in the last 15 years and it looks like the Euro is in a small decline right now, so it could get a bit more expensive than cheaper.

I don't believe that the UK will not be able to negotiate with the EU, since a big part of Germany's economy depends on the UK market. I think the whole issue has been blown out of proportions to make the people in the UK vote against the Brexit. The UK have always been a strong trade nation and will still be a strong trade nation after the Brexit. No capable businessman will allow themselves to miss the opportunity of the UK market, there are only political reasons behind missing it out.

Idiotic. Truly and completely idiotic. You know, very very very recently in our history there was no such ridiculous thing as the EU, and Britian got on just find.

What sort of pathetic wooses are being raised in frickin' Britian and that you are going to sit around wetting your pants because you finally gor your freedom and dignity back from a bunch of disintersted pricks across the channel that only love you for your fucking money. lol

Good lord...

yeah, sorry, I've researched a chart where it seemed the sterling was going up against the euro and I read it wrong (changed the y and x axis in the chart so it looked like at first the sterling was rising again). Doublechecked it now against US dollar and yeah, I was wrong in that aspect. So UK goods will get cheaper if they aren't taxed more.

doesn't change the fact though that Germany still needs the UK economy as a trade partner or the EU will overall decline.

That's a really interesting graph. The general trend for the year doesn't seem to have been changed by Brexit much at all.
Octavious (2802 D)

The trouble with the EU is that it's painfully incompetent when it comes to trade deals, as the embarrassing farce with Canada is demonstrating. Germany may well want to strike a good deal that will benefit both sides, some nations may actually need to, but that won't stop a bunch of tits in the arse end of Belgium saying no because their special breed pampered duck farms can't actually compete with anyone on a level playing field.

@krellin I would argue, but from the Mafia game I've come to realise that the two 'l's in your name could easily be replaced by a t, at least when it comes to forum posts.
Kakarroto (128 D)
23 Oct 16 UTC
well since the 1 nation 1 veto right fell, Belgium alone cannot block the deal. That said, if enough support is gathered, that can be the case. But Germany has great influence, so I'd see it more in favour to a both-sided benefitting deal. That again, depends on that Germany don't want to shoot in their foot by excluding the UK.
Octavious (2802 D)
24 Oct 16 UTC
And yet it seems that Belgium have just blocked the Canadian deal and shot everyone in the foot quite successfully.

@Ikeneko -- No, I understand. You have no fact-based argument to support your emotionally held belief that the UK is in decline -- so instead you will just throw insults at me. I get it...par for the course where Liberals are concerned. You base most of your arguments on emotion, ignore facts, and when asked to use facts start attacking.

Goody for you.
Brexit is one of the things I follow for work. I thought this chart from one of Bloomberg's market guys the day after the referendum on the change in the sterling made the point well:
https://twitter.com/FerroTV/status/746435508469960706

If there is a permanent impact on anything from Brexit, it is a permanently weaker sterling. But this means cheaper UK exports for the rest of the world, and more expensive imports for the UK.
Here's what more expensive imports for the UK looks like:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-10-24/microsoft-hikes-u-k-prices-of-enterprise-products-amid-brexit

"Microsoft Corp. will increase the price of its enterprise software and cloud offerings in the U.K. by as much as 22 percent to adjust to the falling pound in the aftermath of Britain’s vote to leave the European Union."

So who wins? Manufacturers who don't import the goods they use to build the products they export. Who loses? For starters, businesses who import IT services from the world's largest seller of those services.

It depends, there was a small but vocal anti-trade group who objected to CETA on the basis of the same complaints they've had against TTIP and the TPP (though only one of those involves the EU)

All newly minted international trade agreements seem to have this ISDS mechanism. And it has worried lots of activists. It allows businesses to sue countries and have the dispust resolved not by national courts (which might be biased in favour of the country) but by a board of investment specialists.... which might be biased against the countries.

Now US interest groups are worried about this, even though no ISDS has ruled against the US so far. (all successful rulings have been against poorer countries, whose sovereignty has been eroded) - look at what Phillip Morris tried to use the ISDS for in Uruguay and Australia: http://isdsblog.com/category/case-summaries/

And then tell me that this isn't eroding a state's sovereignty. Their right to regulate their own markets for the health and safety of their citizens. Their duty to protect their citizens infact... One of the only things a state has a duty to do which justifies the state's power.

*ISDS: Investor-state dispute settlement - designed to protect investors interests over those of the states or citizens where the investment is being made.

I keep hearing that UK will get a good deal with EU because the Germans want to sell cars in the UK and i contrast this with a region if Belgium effectively vetoing the EU-Canada trade agreement. A EU-UK agreement is far from certain.

Sorry, i seem to be getting off track, if anyone want to reply to that comment, please quote it in a different thread.

Yes the EU may infact be becoming unwieldy. But for your information, we humans don't necessarily know how to organise and coordinate large numbers of people. The US at 300 million - not too impressed by their national politics. And is probably better off deciding things at a local level, hence states rights. China and India can probably be said to have similar problems. And then you're got the EU. Not perfect by any means what-so-ever. But compared to the biggest most complicated organisational tasks humans have achieved ~100,000 people involved with the Apollo space program, it isn't much of a surprise that the EU's ~450 million has problems.

When the op said 'leave the Union' I naturally assumed it was Scotland leaving the Union with England, which is a much more signifigant change imo.

Britain's inflation rate is going up again, and if they close off immigration real potential output will drop, and inflation rates will spike again. Not as bad as it was in 2008, but it's by no means a step in the right direction

I actually managed to figure out a great positive thing about the UK leaving. We will be able to buy tax free liqour when travelling to or home from there. That will be really nice! I guess that our dear Boris Johnson had the same thought in mind!

A method for aboiding paying tax. How wonderful...

Wait, doesn't the EU common market try to abolish customs fees between countries? Does that mean most things will be more expensive, but customs free zones stuff will be cheaper.

Yes and nowadays with modern technology we can surely also control the weather, so that we can ensure a constant heavy fog over the English channel too! The continent will become isolated for ever. :D

Question: Is the "Republic vs. Democracy" thing just an American thing?
I've heard Americans talk about how "America is a republic not a democracy". Using the standard definitions of those words it doesn't make any sense, however if you use the ridiculous definitions those people come up with than it is true. Does anyone outside of the US use this ridiculous dichotomy or is it just Americans?
