I'm just wondering, I realize having my name on the internet isn't the best idea but if it something that needs to be added to the site software I guess I'm fine.

Yo. I've been semi-retired for a while now, but I wanna play some games. One will be strictly highest GR, and the second will be anyone, witH preference to people who seem fun. Both will be semi-anon, WTA, full press. 36 or 48 hours, full press, so state your preference in the signups.

NFL Pick 'em Week 8: Arriving at the Midway Point...
And so we come to mid-season, with the Cowboys, Chargers, Cardinals and Broncos riding high, the Saints and Bears both plummeting to earth, and a bunch of teams stuck in the middle. We kick off the week tonight with a Thursday match which should actually be good for a change, the Chargers and Broncos in a clash for the lead in the AFC West. The Lions and Falcons play in London, Bengals/Ravens, Panthers/Seahawks...pick 'em!

There are two sides to every story. This does not excuse the praise, but stop talking with generalizations. You sound like a ten year old troll. Support for Hamas and many members of Fatah, is immoral, but support for the vast majority of Palestinians, that you never hear about is fine.

"The notice posted on websites affiliated with Hamas showed a-Shaludi alongside and five-year-old Einas Khalil, a Palestinian girl who was run over and killed this week by a resident of the Yitzhar settlement in the West Bank town of Sinjil. The settler fled the scene, saying he was afraid of being lynched."

No, the praise, the glorification of his action, that is precisely the issue. The guy may have just had a car accident--I am willing to say that I don't know whether he was politically motivated.

But it is those who would ascribe a motive to him, and then say that his action was heroic, who are evil. And they are the leadership of the PA.

The religious orientation of the PA would be irrelevant if this was an isolated incident. Instead, it is but the latest in a long and sustained line of actions by Islamic individuals, groups, and nations. When you have thousands of data points, a picture starts to form.
dipplayer2004 (1310 D)

This is quite unrelated except to Jamiet's comment about Westboro, but I'd like to ask you guys to please understand, in no way is Christianity remotely accurately represented by the Westboro church in anything they do. Just cuz they hang the Christian label on their heads doesn't mean they're Christian. Maybe Jamiet didn't intend to say that Westboro is a Christian church, but I'd just like to point this out in any case.

dipplayer: Only thousands of data points? When there are over a billion Muslims in the world? And thousands, an unsubstantial amount when given a number over a billion, gives you the ability to categorize all of the members of the religion as evil?

Westboro Baptist Churchmay celebrate the death of soldiers because thye believe it is **GOD** dolling out judgement....but I don't think you can attribute a single act of violence to the Westboro church. No people have ever been fucking blown up, shot, run over, beheaded, etc at the urging of the Westboro Baptist Church.

WBC is a bunch of utter fucking douchebags...but you equating them to radical Islamists the don't "celebrate death" -- they DOLL IT OUT -- is fucking offensive.

Apparently it is too nuanced for simple minds to understand the difference between a religion calling out what they see as evil and urging people ot change their ways, versus scarf-wrapped asshols with bomb vests on suicide missions.

Extremists are extremists. The point is that Westboro doesn't represent Christianity any more than Islamic extremists represent Islam. If you fail to see that, you're just as myopic as the talking head morons on TV.

Hamas’ very existence is used a means of painting the Palestinian National Liberation movement as a religious conflict. In truth it’s quite the opposite. Prior to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Palestinian militancy was of the Marxist, leftist, socialist, nationalist and most important SECULAR variety. Quranic scripture and the concept of martyrdom were not invoked prior to Hamas. Liberation of the oppressed, liberation of the working class and liberation of the occupied were the common themes pushed by Palestinian fighters. The PLO and all its sub-groups, the PFLP, the Abu Nidal Organization, the Palestinian Fedayeen were secular and as a result their actions were not rooted in the teachings of Islam. The root of the Palestinian insurgency is the occupation of their homeland , the right of return of their refugees and the strive for self-determination not religion.

Ask yourself, if Hamas' founders were atheist would they still exist? The answer is yes. The proof is as I've said numerous times prior to Hamas, all Palestinian militant groups were secular and the faces of it were atheist.

One would then argue that if Palestinian militancy is not rooted in the principle of Islam than why have we never seen Palestinian Christians join the struggle. They did and they were the face of Palestine in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The most famous Palestinian militant besides Yasser Arafat and Hamas leaders was Leila Khalid, a female and born Christian. She was responsible for the hi-jacking of multiple Israeli civilian planes. This clearly shows the hijackings are not necessarily an Islamic thing. Her group, the PFLP was communist and loaded with raised Christians. It’s founded George Habbash and the founder of its deadliest splinter group, the PFLP-EO was also an ex-Christian by the name of Wadi Hadad. The general secretary of the DFLP was Nayef Hawatmeh, a Palestinian Christian

What percentage of Islam's adherents are extremist? Because it looks to me like there are a damn awful lot of them. I'll be generous and say that is only 10% of Muslims, but if so that is still millions of people.

2WL - That is where you are just absolutely wrong, and I recommend you familiarize yourself with the Quaran, and the teachings in **many** Mosques.

Most of Christianity cried out AGAINST Westboro Baptist Church.

Most Muslims are pathetically silent when is comes to the actions of the radicals among them.

To compare the actions of Islam to what happens in Christianity is just the assersions of ignorance.

Christianity is a religion.

Islam is a blend of Government and Religion with the expressed goal of converting the world.

Christianity, if you are familiar with the Bible, actually commands you to follow the laws of your government, even if you are a slave.

There is not a lot of legitimate comparisons you can make between the two in the manner that you are making them. Christianity dos not ignore and excuse violence by it's members.

"Because it looks to me like there are a damn awful lot of them." Why would the media focus on non-extreme Muslims doing nothing of interest, which describes (again) over a billion people?

krellin: "Most Muslims are pathetically silent when is comes to the actions of the radicals among them." That's actually entirely false. Several (as in most) imams have frowned upon the actions of extremists, saying that terrorism is not an Islamic practice. In Muslim nations, it is a serious issue since more Muslims have died from terrorist attacks than non-Muslims. They're very vocal in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Syria, and several others. Just because you don't hear about it all the over here in the West doesn't mean they aren't vocal. They are generally reluctant to come to us for help because a fair number view the West as having contributed to the problem in the first place.

Hey guys,
The title of this thread is in violation of the rule: "Do not make targeted threads that are abusive toward another member, group of members, or social group. This includes but is not limited to posts regarding sexuality, race, and religion."

The discussion you guys are having is not in itself a problem however, so I'm going to lock this thread and invite one of you to start a new thread with a more appropriate title. As a reminder for the discussion in the new thread please refrain from making sweeping generalizing and disparaging statements about large groups.

Of Wars and War Crimes
http://news.yahoo.com/exhibition-of-syria-torture-photos-shows--depravity--of-assad-regime-220711714.html With all the talk concerning whether Israel and/or Hamas should/will face war crimes (I think there's a case to be made both Netanyahu AND Hamas leadership should face charges), we have here what's being called the "smoking gun" for Assad's actions. But does the threat of a warm crimes charge really mean anything? If not, how can it be made to "mean" more?

Why is everybody being so hysterical about a new cold war with Russia? I remember the last one as being relatively quiet, stable and resulting in a colossal and bloodless victory for the west taking form in the '89-'92 period. Wouldn't a second one teach them a lesson about who's boss?
