GM Closes CEO/Worker Pay Gap By 50%
http://www.foxbusiness.com/economy-policy/2014/02/03/white-house-missteps-on-gm-pay-gap/
Feminists outraged at GM's sensitivity to the growing social concern over excessive CEO pay.
<sigh...> Can't please em all, huh? She could have flipped 'em the bird and said no and taken their "insulting offer" to the press and a good lawyer.

I'm no martyr and not seeking martyrdom. They do this to anyone with an opinion they disagree with -- name call, belittle, and ignore the point of disagreement -- it's standad operating procedure. I do it because it gets done to me so often. Of course, I also try to address the concern WHILE being a dick and flinging my poo.

This thread was *served up* for Thucy to give us his vast opinion on gender pay equality, and fairness in pay....it actually could have been a very interesting discussion about how a Liberal excercise balance when his/her ideology comes in to conflict.

That the usual suspects instead used it as a platform to launch personal attacks is indicative of their deep character flaws, as well as their inability to discuss anything complex, where blunt, singular ideology can't rule the day. they might have actually had to *think* to address this one, instead of just parrot their dusty old philosophy books...and so they attack, and then run away in fear.

It was awesome!!

Krellin, all this obfuscation of the fact that you are the worlds biggest asshole must be for your own benefit, because you're really not fooling anyone else.

Pretty sure assholes who are hated by everyone do not become martyrs.

Confirmed misogynists:
* Thucy
* General Donkey
* Oscar
* Fielder

These white men do not see any merit in discussing the 48% reduction in pay the first female CEO of GM received compared to her male predecessor - clearly they don't see any merit is discussion equality of pay for women.

Got it...check, check and check. It is so documented for future use.

I fell I must point out again that this is a bad comparison (as is usually the case when comparing wage gaps for higher aid positions). Each person brought to the table a unique skill set and experiences. Sure, Barra has more years in the auto industry, but she had never help CEO-type responsibilities. Her predecessor came in having been a General Manager for a company. Different experience and skill set means different pay rates.
krellin (80 DX)
06 Feb 14 UTC
Draug - by all means, her reduced wage is by no means a sign of sexism, and instead is a reflection of whatever judgements were made by the board, and it was (most importantly) agree to by Barra herself.

That the Liberals around her are too cowardly to even discuss these items --- even though the cry of sexism *does* exist in the media --- is indicative of their hypocrisy in so many matters, including the issues of sexism, and their claim to wish that I would participate in the forum in thoughtful discussion. they are ignoring the claims of sexism, and turning an attempt at a thoughtful discussion into yet another libtard poo-flinging fest. They *never* fail to disappoint, and never fail to behave as predicted.

krellin, you're a hopelessly stupid troll.

1. You don't know whether or not I am a white man. Although I guess my user name gives away that I am a man, I never did tell you what my skin color is.

2. I've been discussing this issue just fine. It is you who has failed to respond to my question, dodging the discussion you started yourself but are to cowardly to see through.
General Donkey (0 DX)
06 Feb 14 UTC
@Krellin. So I am white and a male am I Krellin? And what makes you think that? As for the "issue", I believe all CEO wages are too high and I believe that women deserve equal pay to men. Now you can try and complicate what is essentially a very simple matter as much as you like......and boy do you like! The point here is that this is simply another issue on which you wrongly believe you have some stick with which to beat anyone who does not buy in to your warped world view. Why so bitter? And this time can you try to explain without resorting to your usual facile tirades of abuse.

@krellin

You know what the real inconsistency in this thread is? It's how you always claim that you treat everyone as an individuals yet you also always manage to make group assertions about liberals.

This confirms that you incorrect and twisted views both about yourself and about the world around you.

@oscarjd74. I know, I know, but strange things do happen. Admittedly not that strange but let's just wait and see, perhaps he will try very hard to be a nice boy for once.

" I believe that women deserve equal pay to men"

What if the man has more experience and skills that are directly usable on the job? Equal pay for equal work/experience/skills. At any pay above 50k a year, what you know makes the difference in pay and your work experience directly influences what you know. Businesses know this and are willing to pay for the experience.

Let's take a for instance... A man and a woman (identical education and both carrying a PMP certification) accept project manager jobs at company X. The man gets 6k more per year than the woman. Is this fair?

Now I'll give you more information: The man has 25 years of PM experience and the woman only became a PM 5 years ago. Now do you think the woman should get the same pay as the man?

If your answer to the second question is yes, then we have nothing further to talk about because you are a socialist, not a capitalist.
mendax (321 D)
06 Feb 14 UTC
Draug, that is nothing to do with socialism. Socialism is an economic system in which the workers own the means of production.

Oh, and krellin: go away.
Draugnar (0 DX)
06 Feb 14 UTC
No, socialism is where the industry is owned by the government and in the government (even in the US) job title determines pay, not work experience.

I bet they are panicking right now. They lost the trailer park market. It's a real shame that the far-right has to bash them for promoting diversity instead of respecting them for their abhorrent labor practices and terrible environmental record.

I'm reading a French book and I can't quite figure out this sentence:

I know what most of the words mean but I can't figure out the meaning of the sentence.
Anyone able and willing to translate that sentence for me?

How do people choose their politics and economics?
Do people choose their political and economic allegiances based on logic and reason?
Or do they have an innate sense of what actions they’d prefer to do or have done, and choose the political and economic philosophies that say these actions are the steps that need to be taken to solve society’s problems?
