i admit to being hopeless at lying but I can appreciate lying for reward or gain, but in a WebDip context how good is it to team up with a mate to win a game or to create a series of multiple IDs with the intention of winning Diplomacy games.
Am I missing out on a fabulous feeling of euphoria, or a rush of something. I'm all for natural highs :-)

Nigee, that's called being a cheating douchebag. Lying and manipulating are parts of the game. There's a difference.

Cheating =/= lying =/= douchebaggery = cheating.

Having someone buy your lie after crafting a well thought-out diplomatic message is super rewarding. Cheating your way into points and rank is silly and there's nothing positive to be taken away.

Apologies guys, when i was referring to deception I was not referring to Diplomacy skills, the reference was regarding the feelings/passion/fun/psychology/enjoyment gained from either playing as a multi or meta-gaming with friends.
If it wasn't a lot of fun surely people wouldn't do it and why do so many people do it, it seems like a pretty big percentage of people are happy to risk being banned, is that the fun, the thrill of trying to outfox the Mods.
I'm genuinely interested to know if these people are having more fun than me. What human trait makes so many people flout the rules when the reward seems to be so limited.
On a broader note I wonder if these same people would cheat in real life (with their partners, in exams, etc) if they thought they could get away with it. What is the buzz you get from cheating?

People like to win at all costs. I'm not sure if it's for the digital number next to their name, of the actual thrill of winning. People see winning ass an accomplishment, even if it was attained unfairly.

As for me, noo, I don't like winning at all costs. I like winning under the framework that the game is meant to be played by. To me, getting a win signifies that I've faced a challenge and I've managed to come out on top when I'm not likely to do so going in. Metagaming/multiaccounting negates a very large part of that challenge, and also eliminates the satisfaction that a win brings. While I dont have a multi, I have won a game due to CD and the same principle appplies to that.

I don't win by cheating. But I will skirt the edge of rules (once did the "draw or I won't unpause" thing and got the draw before the mods made a rule against it). Funny thing is, I don't like winning due to a CD unless I feel I would have had a good chance of winning anyhow. I have drawn before when I felt the CD could have stalemated me with an active participant.

OK, there are two good examples of people that have good morals, but I'm looking for the opposite of this thinking, people that get a buzz from doing it bad.....

Here is another weird thing, somebody creating a bogus 'Krellin' account and just abusing people (to be fair I couldn't tell the difference :-))
Why has someone given up their time for this deception, is real life that bad that people have to do shit like this, once again I find myself unable to comprehend the mentality of a person like this, for the short period of time they were on the forum was it hilarious for them, has that jolly jape made their Xmas, if anyone can shed some light on these actions please share, I'd love to understand the rationale.

On this other forum I lurk, one guy decided he would place a guy-seeking-girl-NSA ad and he reported on the forum. Fun seeing what types of replies one gets.

I remember the early days of chat rooms when paedos thought NigeeBaby was a girl and they would hit on me. , that was before grooming got a bit more sophisticated. There were some odious creeps out there.....
