Who wants a piece of this???
As some of you may have noticed, I've been discretely playing a random game here and there in the last bit. Having seen my last one end because a dumb ass resigned, I thought it was time for fiercer competition. Any takers?

I tried to click the +1 icon on a posting I liked, but it just jumps you to the top of the page. Presumably this is something to do with the earlier WebDip outage.

Live game start or cancel.
So the site was out of order for a while. A live gunboat is still to begin (although it's set a 'now'), it doesn't start, nor can anyone leave. Is there anything we can do about this situation?

Interesting in that the NMR'r in the orginal game (who motivated the parenthetical comment in the new title) was Sargemacher.

Sargmacher has been banned
We don't normally discuss the details behind bans, but given the high visibility of this account and the inevitable questions that may arise, we have decided to make a statement to clarify matters.

Frank called you out for being a sore loser on account of your 23 resigns.
and what the fuck is this bo_sox guys deal.

Wow. Having been in a fair few games with Sargmacher, some of them highish pot and quality ones, fairly shocked by this. As various people have said, if your a good player (which he was) what's the benefit in doing this?

I've also been on the backend of some of his comments before and ironically had at least 3 conversations regarding whether there were multi's in some live games we were playing together. Going back to the check them now!!

That said - congrats to the mods and fair play to them for the ban. Perhaps because I've played so many gunboats but weirdly depressing going back through the list and seeing how many banned players there have been.
martinck1 (4464 D(S))

Sad to see Sarg banned. We played together a couple of times and others have said, he was a good player. I understand Frank's point to some degree, as Sarg was a good contributor towards the game, but then I was never on the end of one of his multi's.

But now I know his history, I wouldn't want to play with him again. But that's because there are enough other good players.

Looking back at my own games, there are relatively few people banned. However I remember Agent K, who was truly an excellent player. In that case, as long as I was fairly sure on the other players, I would be very happy to play another game with him.

Thanks to the mods for their work, anyone who gives up their time voluntarily to help the site deserves respect and support.

What makes absolute sense to me is that you ban a player from playing normal games and let them organise cheat only games, a bit like a 'Lance Armstrong Tour de France', then you leave him to access the forum so we can rip the piss out of him, that is much better punishment than just banning him. This keeps the forum busy and then all the cheaters mates can tell him how much they love and respect him, maybe arrange dates with him, and he can eat humble pie as other posters remind him of all the bullshit comments he came out with over the years, everybody is happier and over time once everybody has had their pound of flesh in traditional Lando-style he can be re-integrated into the WebDip community, albeit with a stained reputation.
Would the people running this site consider this? It would mean an extra option when setting up a game to allow/disallow cheaters joining. I would always disallow the cheating bastards but others who like them may want to allow them to play in their games..

I think that's a bizzare idea. If you cheat, you harm not only the players in the games you cheated in, but you also harm the whole community and the site itself. A total ban is the only suitable punishment for someone who is a blatant multi AND does not apologise or show any desire to reform when caught.

But you miss out on the opportunity to rip the piss out of them for being a complete twat. Remember this is just a gaming site, not a court of law. This offence does not carry a prison sentence, it's not like we are talking about Goldman Sachs Senior Mgmt here, and how many of them did time for sending the whole world into recession and causing financial ruin to millions?
I think of degree of perspective is required, you say he has harmed the whole community but he hasn't harmed me, I'm laughing my head off at the 'Lance Armstrong of WebDip', the only difference is that Armstrong made millions out of his`deception but small-time Sarg got fuck-all.
If you are truly hurt by this maybe you need to re-evaluate your own existence.

"Frank called you out for being a sore loser on account of your 23 resigns"

I'm pretty sure the cheat/liar/fraud apologist called for my banning while you called me a sore loser (which is funny considering I've seen you lash out in public about game play and I've lost so many games). It's fascinating to see so many diplomacy players whine about their cheater/liar friends being banned after cheating and lying for years. You judge a person by what company they keep.

It's not always about them, sometimes it can just be for your own self-amusement. After the abuse I suffered from Sarg as a noob I would take great pleasure in a bit of verbal retribution, especially as I could see him cheating ages ago, I do believe I reported it as well.
well he wanted your banning because you are a sore loser. They are quite related

I would have never suspected that ban...........but, we can't change it now, and the mods must have had solid evidence to base it on.........oh well.

@djakarta, it wasn't just solid evidence, though there was an overwhelming amount of it, it was also an admission to some of multi accounting.
djakarta97 (358 D)

Does that imply that the puppet master behind Sarg's account lost all of his accounts?

And, based on the amount of games that Mr. Sargmacher has played, I am not surprised that he managed to keep a low profile. It's good that he was caught.

what the f**k, I just noted Sarg has been banned. It's rather surprising, I had a really good relationship with him, and I have never suspected he's a multi. All that said, we mostly had high pot games together, plenty above 1000 D bet, in which he certainly wasn't able to cheat at all, since all the other players are quite well known.

I don't doubt mods' sentence was right at all though. All I'm saying I'm pretty sure he hasn't cheated in every game and I recall those games ase sg. worth to remeber. (Especially since I kicked his ass most of the time :D)

And as last but not least I'm shouting out loud to please implement Reliability Rating and other game creation limitations (such as minimum finished game number) which would help us avoiding multis. Maintining multiple accounts which all fulfill these requirements are even harder.

As many of you know I'm no longer active member of this site (just finishing my ongoing 2 games left), but examples like this are part of the reason I'm leaving. No innovation whatsoever has been put in place at all, since I'm here, despite the fact there are many already implemented and discussed ones. While I'm generally satisfied with mods' job, I think the long term solution is making it harder to cheat and not wasting more human resource on banning them. Until this website is unable to reduce the percentage of multis I don't see the quality can improve at all.

All that said, nice job mods, reading the very first comment in this thread, it seems you've done quite a fullscale investigation.

Had a chance to explain American politics today
It was an interesting opportunity. It started with my coworker asking about the electoral college and evolved into a general question of how American politics works. Her reaction was mixed. I know we log on here every day and gripe about how our politics suck, but after my holistic explanation, I feel almost grateful we have politics to gripe about. Our problems really aren't that bad. (Unless Romney/ Ryan wins, jk! not really.)

Game
In commemoration of a string of high-profile bans lately, I've created a game to celebrate. I am looking forward to decreasing the number of games "infected" by a multi from 45% to about 10%, which is what mine is. If you want the password, message me. Don't play if you're a multi because the mods will be keeping close tabs on all of us I'm sure.

Why does the United States still use the electoral college?
I feel it is outdated and unrepresentative. The millions of us who are political minorities within our states that are statistically impossible to swing are essentially left out of the entire election as much as foreigners are left out. This is undemocratic and unjust, is it not? If not, why not?
