My shame.
Other than occasionally laughing at a fortress door joke. At pub trivia tonight I missed the first diplomacy question I've ever heard at a trivia night.

Do tell...
If they asked what the most defensible home country is, and answered England, they're full of shit.

I would hope they're not using Trivial Pursuit questions at a trivia night. I lost my faith in them when I learned that Otto Titzling did not, in fact, invent the brassiere.
@Bob - yeah its definitely Turkey

This country is impassable.
You missed that one?

Its clearly Iceland. You can't even reach it, but its there taunting you.

More specifically, this central European country is impassable.

Good work gen lee.
The answer is clearly Liechtenstein.

Quite frustrating. My initial thought. Was, no country is impassable.

Switzerland's not impassable, it's just not practically passable. That's a stupid question.
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 Oct 12 UTC
Switzerlandbis impassable on a diplomacy board. No unit may pass through it. It is bypassable as in you can go around, but not passable as.in it is not a useable passage between two other territories.
ghug (5068 D(B))

I don't think that the question was specifically about Dip, Draug.

Read again. It was.
ghug (5068 D(B))

I think that the implication was that it was a question pertinent to diplomacy about European military geography, though I could be wrong.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Read the OP. He clearly states he missed a *dip* question at trivie tonight. Seriously. Read it.
smcbride1983 (517 D)

The original question as written was, "In the game diplomacy, what central European country is considered impassable?" If it had said unable to be occupied I may have gotten it. As it was, I was completely lost. Part of the reason is that I always just thought of Switzerland as the Alps. Whoops.

Hey Draug, you were right, congratulations. Next time don't be such an ass.

While Draugnar is on some occasions an ass, I don't see where his responses here are ass-like, IMHO.

It's the way he says things. Short, direct sentences consisting mostly of imperative verbs give off a rude tone, especially when written. The fact that the only piece of evidence he cited was something I had already acknowledged also came off a bit condescendingly.

Anyway, it's not a big deal, so I'm gonna let it drop now.

Wow, who knew trivia nights asked questions specifically about Diplomacy? Then again, the first time I ever heard of the game Diplomacy was from a Trivial Pursuit card. The question: What is Henry Kissinger's favorite board game?

An elected European President
In another thread, I argued that the role of President of the European Council and the role of President of the European Commission (the EU's "government") should be merged and that this person should be elected by an EU-wide election.

Can anyone in Michigan explain the opposition to the new bridge?
From a Hoser's point of view, it seems like a no-brainer. Wondering if there's actually a reasonable explanation for the opposition. http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/10/23/greedy-u-s-billionaire-urges-michigan-voters-to-reject-free-bridge-to-canada/

Suggestion
It's probably a dumb idea, but I'll propose it anyway. A "Repeat Last Turns' Orders" button would be useful when you have a lot of units, it is towards the end of the game, and you are simply support holding across the map for a couple of turns, waiting for a draw.

Mitt Romney: The 45th President
Polls and common sense are now showing that Romney will win. From the states that Obama carried in 2008, Romney has three: Indiana, North Carolina, Florida; completely locked up. He is ahead in Virginia, Colorado, and New Hampshire, and within the margin of error in Iowa, Wisconsin, Nevada, Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, all the states that went for the GOP in 2008 are Solid Romney. With 2 weeks left, Romney is in an increasingly strong position to take the White House.

Something you didn't know...
Austria-Hungary was a direct continuation of the Roman Empire. The Empire in the West existed until 1806, when Napoleon invaded it and the last Emperor, Francis II, abdicated. However, he continued to rule as Austrian Emperor until his death in 1835. The next few emperors continued reigning over Austria (later extended to include Hungary in 1867) until the end of World War One, when the last Habsburg Emperor, Charles, abdicated and went into exile in 1918.
