Affirmative Action

In my opinion it is time to get rid of Affirmative Action and its racist ideals, and this supreme court case will hopefully make AA less racist.

I've been thinking about what herbs to use for my chicken

when I make Mexican wraps. I fry chicken, then add paprika and some corn, mesh some avocados into a good guacamole sauce (some lemon, little garlic, you know) and some "creme fraiche" with mild chili. But now I want to spice up my chicken. Post recommendations here please. :-)

Problem moving france army from picardy to wales

I tried to move army from picardy to wales (move with convoy).
There was only an english fleet in the north sea. Which went to london.
My french fleet is lying in the english channel. When i am ordering to convoy to wales the program refuses... I don't understand...

This went on in a similar fashion for some time... My question is a simple one... Has this game made us bad people? Are we, to put it another way, dicks? Or is everyone else just wrong?

I think you're fine as long as you don't apply it to real life. I've become a much more manipulative person since I started playing Diplomacy, and I think that that's a bad thing.

Well, yes, if I heard this from a Diplomacy player I would simply assume he was a bit of a prat and rather new to the game. However, other games do have different standards to the ones we know and love (even if their rules don't forbid our style of play) and I get the impression that I may have breached some unwritten code they have over there. Before playing this game I may have dabbled in the arts of deception, but my time here has made me something of a master of it and I delight in using it even when it isn't strictly necessary....

Are we bad people?

It is only wrong is you do it for evil means in the real world. Just because we do in a game doesn't mean it is wrong.

Octavious... I use deception a lot as well, I wish i didnt.... but, ITS AWESOME. I dont think were bad people, though we certainly know how to have some fun by lying. yeah, other games have different standards, but they arent as good as this one, so i think lying would be fine, which game are we talking about?

It's...erm... a risk based online game (hides head in shame) called Warlight. They allow communication and alliances... but it seems they do things differently there.

I generally use diplomacy-esque tactics in Settlers of Catan and to a lesser extent Ticket to Ride. You've got to be subtle about it.

At this point, Diplomacy is really the only game there is that's worth while.

A final quote from BP as he turned his attention to diplomacy and called it...

"a bloodthirsty, backstabing, fend for yourself now and forever game. a where there are no limits those people think it's ok to do something in that matter and be proud of the win"

...it took me a while to get my head round this, and I know it will confuse a lot of you too, but I think he meant it as an insult...

That's an awesome story Octavius. I have applied diplomacy tactics to some degree in other games, it has served me well - but I never got called out like that.

You aren't a bad person for playing to win. If you are cheating then that would be bad. If you use diplomacy tactics to sleep with ladies, then you're an asshole... erm... a skilled diplomer.

My friends and I have always played games like we play diplomacy. Probably the only game where we keep our alliances to the end is axis & allies. Because, um, yeah.

Diplomacy has really helped my poker face, though - as well as my communication skills. Those come in handy in the real world, where I prefer to be honest. So I'd say playing diplomacy can make you a more effective person at least, if not the most virtuous.

I did acquire a taste for "flying under the radar" from this game.

Pre-dip redhouse:
"You shouldn't do that".
Pre-dip redhouse's friend:
"Yeah I should." Friend screws up, angry at redhouse for pointing it out beforehand.

Post-dip redhouse:
Are you sure you want to do that?
-Yeah
Okay.
-Why, shouldn't I?
I dunno. Should you?

Playing diplomacy, more than anything, has taught me that sometimes the best thing I an do is shut the hell up or change the subject. "are you going to support me into munich?" "dude, I'm really worried about France..."

vDiplomacy

I just looked at the vDiplomacy site someone mentioned below and it looks interesting. However I've tried to register without success—I have yet to receive my validation email nearly an hour after requesting one. I've also tried logging on with my webDiplomacy username, but that doesn't work either.

Does anyone know of a solution?

Atheist/Agnostic Judge for "The Great Debate" Needed

811 posts in, but we're nearly there, we have all the debates submitted to judges...we just have a bit of a problem there.

We had 5, went down to 3, and now we have 4 (it works 2 atheists, 2 Christians, 1 neutral) and we need an atheist judge...so, anyone up for it? (The sooner we scare up a judge, the sooner that thread goes away...?) :)
