Player needed for public press and gunboat games
I haven't been able to get a hold of King Rishard so, if he doesn't show, I'm going to need a player or two to cover a public press and gunboat game. Let me know if anyone's interested.

Vive la France!
It is a rare day that I say anything good about France, but every now and then they do something worthy of note. The French government has unveiled its budget and, instead of slashing public spending, they're focusing on raising taxes on the the wealthy and businesses!

15 Day Phases
Yes, I know a number of games have been changed to 15 day phases; please don't email us about it. I've contacted kestas to see if he can simply revert the database; otherwise I'll fix them by hand tomorrow when I wake up. On the off chance kestas can't fix it, can you please post here with the gameID and the correct phase length. Thanks.

CD'ing
I've never missed a turn or CD'ed so I don't know what happens. When someone goes CD does the game still show up on their home page or does it disappear and they'd have to go find it again? I know we are forced to look at the defeated games until they are over.

Gingers
A while back in one of the forum posts I made what I thought a harmless joke when I repeated the (to me) ridiculous saying, "At least we're not gingers." When that put a damper on the conversation, I began to wonder if I had actually offended someone, if people thought I was serious. Then tonight I found an entry on the bbc news online that cleared things up for me.

Is there anything we can do to unpause the games from earlier this week?
I have a couple of world games going, and some players don't seem like they are going to unpause.

I've never had a candidate for anything personally come to my door before
A candidate for State Representative (not a lofty position, but still significant) personally stopped by my house and every house in the neighborhood to try to convince us to vote for her. I've never seen an actual candidate for anything do that before. Is this kind of personal canvassing widespread, or is it just this candidate?

We had Senator Dick Durbin at the local community center last week and I've seen other more local candidates at my work (Starbucks).

My parents host some representatives in election years. We've hosted people from at least three parties. State reps make the rounds pretty well I think, as do local Congresspeople.
I've had a city council candidate come door to door through the neighborhood to introduce himself and discuss his positions. I've also been on the campaign team of a county supervisor who cold-called everyone in the district who voted in the prior election (or at least those for whom we had numbers) to personally talk to them.

Our state senator did that his first election.
We get that a lot in the UK when there's an election coming up. It doesn't make any difference (at least to me).

In local/council elections I tend to vote for the candidates who live nearest me - on the grounds that they wont let a motorway be built through their own back yard.***

In national and European elections I vote for UKIP (UK Independence Party). UKIP are currently polling higher than the Tory's coalition partners, the Lib Dems, so watch for UKIP becoming the third party of UK politics in a few years time.

*** - this worked once, the local council were going to allow a quarry pit to be dug in the forest at the back of the estate I lived on; but there was a local council election before it could start and 3 people, all independents (not associated with any nationwide party) from my estate were voted onto the council - that was the end of the quarry pit.

As much as I like Nige and consider him a great man to talk to over a pint, I can't see UKIP making any gains at Westminster with first past the post in place. I can't see them making much progress in the local elections either, to be honest. Still, they should remain a powerful force in the British European elections for some time, and we a better off for it :).

To be honest I can't recal an MP ever visiting my house. They usually leave that to their underlings in the youth movements and party faithful. I've seen them walking the streets in shopping centres a few times, and to their credit they do genuinely talk to you. Labour's Ben Bradshaw was quite good at that sort of thing, but Hannah Foster (Conservative) managed to pip him. Had a great chat with her about the dangers of global warming and amazingly enough the next time I met her she remembered it! I'd always assumed they just read off a mental script and instantly forget it.

I was spoiled for choice at the time, really :)

Oh, I should also say that if anyone cold calls me they automatically lose my vote, no matter who they are. I think a lot of Brits would feel this way.

@Speakertoaliens - The tories and Lab parties have been very successful in keeping the UKIP party out of general elections. They have developed a 'referendum wave' They build up this wave with vague promises in the run up to elections and then forget they made any such non-promises as soon as they are elected, and then build up another wave of non-promises but strong talk in the build up to the next election. All pretty effective stuff and very little UKIP can do to break through.

I'm generally pro-europe but think the cae for a referendum is strong.

I know my state senator and his family personally. He was pastor of my church, I taught his kids in a youth group and he was the guy that married my wife and I.

Some sort of referendum is inevitable. The most likely solution for the eurocrisis is much more federalism, which would require every member to agree to the treaty changes. If the population of the United Kingdom is one thing, it isn't federalist. The people won't tolerate being subsumed into a European superstate without a referendum. Whether the question will be simply in/out or include some special opt-outs I don't know, but there will be a referendum in the UK simply because the EU needs fundamental reforms if it is to survive.

Plagiarism
No wonder today's young folk think they can just get away with stealing someone else's ideas, words, and efforts. Even at high levels of the public sphere, plagiarism persists. What an incorrigible individual.

The next 100 questions
I will provide a scenario to you all, and then ask you a question. You may all ask as many questions as you want to get to the answer to my question, but I'll only answer "yes," "no," or "it doesn't matter." If you already know the answer, please don't spoil it for the others. This is a group activity so read what others have asked and work together (in my experience, 2 people solve it much more quickly than 1, and a group of 4 usually gets it in 20-30 min. of so).

How can I get a game unpaused? How do I contact an admin?
Apparently, I have to email and admin. But what are the admin email addresses?

IMHO, this whole pause thing seems to be a bad idea...

when will games unpause?
for all the games I'm playing that got automatically paused there is 1 person holding out on the unpause for each of these games. Neither of the people who have left their votes out have much of a stake left in the game either. Will the games automatically unpause after a certain time or do I need to contact the mods directly?
