I have to admit there have been several occasions when I have reacted quite badly to backstabs, but then there are also occasions when I have thought "oh well better to know now rather than later that player x would be an unreliable ally"
my response has varied from one specific circumstance to another

and then there are all my own backstabs, where I have stabbed another player
my approach is to try and keep my backstabs to a minimum
one method is to be very careful with the words used in messages
but I am inconsistent

One thing -- i have less guilt backstabbing a player who is also backstabbing a 3rd player

The old Meta gaming rule is necesary, I support it in principle & practise as best I can.

I don't have a problem with it in the positive sense -- ie exchanging help in one game for help in another is easy to see as "wrong"
it was in the negative sense that I used to have some difficulty accepting -- why can't I seek "revenge" -- but I have got my head around that part of it now
mind you one of my responses is that if I cannot "follow up on a grudge" and chase revenge, then I simply won't play another game with the player "with whom I have unresolved issues"
