I'm watching field hockey right now and it's a lot more fun than I originally thought.

Basketball is fast paced, high energy, and full of athleticism. It's possibly the best spectator sport on the planet.

@ Obi... my daugter did gymnastics or a long time and I will admit that it was tough watching beam and bars. Doing backflips and aerials on a 4-inch wide piece of wood 4-feet off the ground is a bit disconcerting. Same thing w/ the giants on the bars.. you're building up such momentum each time you swing fully... if you don't time it perfectly, then it can be quite disastrous. I still remember when she'd rip her hands while doing bars too. They put up w/ a hell of a lot for that sport; major commitment in time and body.

They condition like Navy Seals though; I'll give them that much.

Golf is great.
I find all the motorsports boring, even more than Counter-Strike, which is the most boring eSport.

have you ever watched motocross? it's not boring.

Freestyle is similar to water jumping, or whatever it's called, which is boring as well. "Crosscountry" is only interesting because of crashes in hairpins and I preffer that on ice in downhill ice cross. And don't even get me started on that circuit variant, it's like NASCAR on bikes and mud. There is no motocross without mud.

I used to work for an orthopedic clinic, and one time one of the surgeons was telling a story about when he worked for a university and got called in to a gymnastics accident.

It seems the young lady in question had been on the uneven bars, and apparently the covering to the upper bar came loose from the bar and so it sort of stuck to her hand as she spun over the bar - she was obviously spinning over the bar quite quickly. She couldn't let go, and went all the way around.

He said her wrists were completely shattered into tiny pieces halfway up to her elbow. Worse, she was still hanging there on the bar after the accident, as her hands were wrapped up in her arms. They had to physically pick her up and swing her back over the bar to "unstick" her hands.

I remember thinking the same thing about "What parent agrees to let their little kids (they start when they're, like, 6!) do stuff like that!?" It does look awesome when they get it right, though.

Oh, and as for the most boring sport, it has to be cricket, with baseball a close second.

I disagree Jamiet. Chess is considered a sport, and by extension gunboat can be considered one as well.

In any case, it was a joke, but there is justification for the more serious of us...

Every sport has inherent dangers.

Chess is a recognised sport of the International Olympic Committee. If you can get the IOC to recognise gunboat diplomacy, I'd be impressed, Alex.

It is effectively the same game. Gunboat is simply chess against 6 opponents.

Someone performing an athletic feat. The tournaments are always close and often come to the last pairing.

Im an old, trad, rockclimber (+canyoneer+sport-caver, etc)...and yes, watching my daughters do basic gymnastics scares the cr*p out of me. They'll be going back to dancing, I think!

In NASCAR, not counting the commercials you are watching 95% action. Same with soccer. Just pointing out that just because it's "all action" doesn't mean it's exciting. I got sit through and entire golf game and never be excited.

Sit through a Sunday afternoon of a major, I bet you'll be surprised how excited you can get.
