Circumcision - religious right that needs defending or child abuse? Germany court has ruled it illegal.

Did 19th Century America get its marriage norms from the Ottomans? From Muslim Spain? No. My point remains. The norms of the time frowned upon it, and viewed it as a barbaric practice. That is my point. That it existed, they were well aware of.

And where in Europe in the 1800s?

Let's clarify this. Mormon's (aka John Smith) innovated Christian polygamy based on OT teachings of Jewish polygamy. Christianity has always been "man and woman are broguth together and the two are made one" until Mormonism came along and perverted Christian teachings.

John Smith - the original L. Ron Hubbard.

i will cut my self before hurting my child in any way,the jewish religion is old and primitive, this is the 21 century.

@taos - Then you are a Jew by heritage only, not by faith. For you have abandoned your faith to practice soemthing other than Judaism.

The hubris of our modern age. Thinking we know better than the hundreds of generations before us, just because our tools and other gadgets are so much more complicated.

Of course it hurts. It's a sensitive location!

That's part of the point.

I've never met a single guy who was circumcised who didn't think that it was better to be circumcised. And I've never met a single guy who wasn't circumcised who didn't think that it was better not to be circumcised.

99% of people's opinions on this is just about which one they're used to. It's definitely not child abuse, that's ridiculous as it has thousands of years of history, but it's a personal preference that should be left up to the parents and no one else.

Draug, the Judaism that is prevalent today asks nothing more than for you to be Jewish by heritage. Depending on the sect, faith is hardly any object. I would assume that taos followed reform Jewish law, which is essentially as relaxed as any religion gets nowadays. It has turned many - including myself - into agnostic, non-religious people, but it doesn't really require me to believe otherwise to be able to say I'm Jewish. It makes little sense that it's gotten that way, but that is the opinion of the general "American Jew" nowadays. If you go to Israel, it's a lot more religious.

Anyway, circumcision isn't child abuse. That's about as pathetic of an excuse to make it illegal as they could have possibly come up with. Sounds similar to a policy that they would have made back in the late 30s and early 40s if you ask me.

"Let's clarify this. Mormon's (aka John Smith) innovated Christian polygamy based on OT teachings of Jewish polygamy. Christianity has always been "man and woman are broguth together and the two are made one" until Mormonism came along and perverted Christian teachings."

Bernhard Rothmann actually supported polygamy in the anabaptist denomination of the 16th century. I don't think he was the innovator, but he was a prominent leader who supported the practice well before Mormonism was conceived.

I didn't say Joseph Smith/the Mormons invented the idea. I said that their promotion of it in 19th Century was outside the accepted norms of the time.

Taos: "i believe in the future of human kind,we are still a bunch of ignorant animals but we get smarter in every generation."
Dipplayer: "I see no evidence of that."

Plus 1 Dipplayer for that comment. California government is a case in point.

FYI taoism is an eastern philosophy/religion which was not overly influenced by Judeo-Christian beliefs. It is not a sect of Judaism.

I wonder if I see a day when any controversial debate about Germany won't include neverending Nazi refferences. Jews in Germany are not a relevant minority; if anything, this ruling would affect local Muslims that actually have some presence in the country. Plus the government reassured both Muslims and Jews that they will try to find a quick solution which will allow the practice to continue. I only hope such a blatantly political solution won't negatively affect the independence and high quality of German justice system.

I see no one brought it up but there is an aesthetic issue to this as well as cultural norms. In the US much higher numbers of men are circumcised than in Europe, so many in the US see circumcision as normal and more attractive where the opposite is true in Europe.

Why should it matter to me that the parents of the child might be Jewish? They have a duty of care to that child, and it certainly isn't an unreasonable viewpoint that subjecting your child to surgery for cultural reasons (there may be a medical argument, but that isn't why it is done) represents a dereliction of that duty.

I have very little time for parents arguing they should be allowed to harm their child for religious reasons (in other words, because of a fairy tale), be it denial of education or cutting off vast numbers of nerves from their genitals.

"Now Where Have I Heard That Before..." (A Game Played Entirely On Quotes?)
Every message you send has to be a quote from a movie, TV show, book, song, etc., with the exception of locations (as finding a quote for moving to the Ruhr is a bit too difficult, I think)...an example, say, Italy asking Russia for help could be:
"With our combined strength (@Budalest) we can END this destructive conflict, and bring order to the galaxy, er, Europe!" :p

Returning to webdip
After a year away, I've decided to come back to webdip for the duration of my summer holiday (as opposed to just making the occasional post on the forums every 3 months). Not playing any games until I've got past my week away that starts in a fortnight. How's webdip getting on?

Throwing a Game
When is it acceptable to throw a WTA game( or any game for that matter, but WTA has the stiffest "penalty") knowing that you could force a draw? Are there ever grounds to believe that this is ever acceptable? I don't believe so, but looking to be proven wrong. I am of the school that would say Win; failing that, draw. Period. Curious to know what others think.

Thule bug?
I convoyed an army to Thule so I wouldn't have to make a double convoy to NWT, and now any time I try to move or convoy the army my Chrome page has an error and I have to reload. Fortunately I don't need the army, but it's an annoying bug because I'd like to try this move in a bigger game but don't want to risk the error. Anyone else encountered this? Here's the game:

Surely everyone here can agree this is simply ludicrous? Even if you're a believer...well, by that logic, what do you do with Muslims and practicing Jews? Tax them for attending Temple or Mosque instead of Church? What DID ever happen to our American belief in a Separation of Church and State?
