Obama/Department To Halt Deportation of "Dreamer" Illegal Immigrants
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/report-white-house-halt-deportation-young-illegal-immigrants-133800284.html

I applaud this...I think it's a great decision...Obama to give a speech on this shortly around 10:15 Pacific Time. Thoughts on the decision itself and the impact on the 2012 race>

They Improve Their Appetite When They Exercise (Just As Long As No Skinny People Snicker)
http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/gym-bans-skinny-people-173000110.html
Banning skinny people from a gym...because it "brings down morale"...
Isn't that sort of like getting rid of all the smart kids in class because it makes the schmucks who think "The Day After Tomorrow" is scientifically accurate feel badly when they fail? WHEN did the West develop this "fear of failure" self-esteem issue?

There Can Be Only One--Which Actors/Films Pull Off The Character Best?
The many Bonds...the many Doctors...the different Darens...different Marx Bros. and Stooges...the many Hamlets and Holmes...the originals and remakes and re-imaginings...

Give a role with multiple actors, or a story with multiple adaptations, and say which one you take over the other(s) and why...which are the DEFINITIVE portrayals and films, and which are...not? ;)

What is Christianity?
Obviously, I know that its like one of the most popular religion out there but coming from a very anti-christian background, I dont really know what they actually believe. I know the basics like that Jesus is God but like how do you get into heaven and stuff? This is NOT a debating forum.

A bit embarrassing that it ends in a 2-way if it is called a 'class', but I'm interested in other's thoughts. There are some frustrations I had with the game, but I'm not bitter because I lost. Feel free to share your feelings, especially to the 8 (we had a sub) that played.

Saw Joan Baez at the Zenith in Caen (France) last night!
Abxolutely superb and she's 71. Still believable in her support for the beliefs and causes that she's been fighting for over so many years.

How can you deal with obtuse 'morons' who will never give credit to opposing arguments?
Serious question. When you're debating, discussing, or arguing with people and they simply won't accept other points of view, even after reams of evidence, how can you respond? Is it best just to walk away or should we strive to educate?

How would you deal with someone utterly convinced that the Earth was flat, for example?

Anyone here get into darts?
I've been watching some late night darts on ESPN2 or some such. And it really looks like an enjoyable combination of throwing skill, math skill, and strategy.

yeah man, I started smokign darts a couple of years ago. the propoganda is correct, they are addictive.
^^ Not vaftrudner, sorry, that was me sitting his account accidentally posting under his name. My bad. Did the same thing about Gowan this morning but that wasn't as potentially embarassing for him so I didn;t say anything.

To actually answer your question:

I had a board in my basement and one summer I got pretty good at it. None of my friends were any good, so I didn't play much, but it was nice being able to walk into a bar and kick people's ass, especially since I'm really bad at pool. Not sure which games you've seen, but the ones I've play involved a trivial amount of math and strategy.

Well, it's a simple countdown from 510 I believe it is. You subtract your 3 score throw. But the real trick is you have to end your last throw on a double score or bullseye and it has to be the exact amoutn you need. Not more.

Watching the pros, I never did see what would happen if you accidently hit over or ended 1 shy where a bulls eye or a double is two much for the next throw.

3 throw score...

I usually played Cricket, which is a little more fun that just throwing darts anywhere you please.
I have never played a countdown from 510 as it seems somewhat boring. Not sure what Cricket is but it is probably the game that I played. Way better. Around the World is OK but can get tedious as well.

Darts is my second favourite pub game after pool. Well, possibly after skittles as well but you're damned lucky to find a pub with a skittle alley these days. Not sure where the strategy comes from. Score as many points as you can before finding your way to a good finish (double 16 if you're good, or double 20 if you're like me and it's the only one you have a hope in hell of hitting) is pretty much it.
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Jun 12 UTC
Sure there is strategy. You just said double 20 is your best throw, so the strategy is to get to 40 D left for that final dart.

But I think it would be better if the darts were left on the board each round and you alternated throwing so you could block a spot with a well placed dart and prevent your opponent form getting it. That would ass rreal strategy (well tactics actually) to the game. Do it where both players have more than 3 darts and keep them up there and the board could get really full and challenging by the end.

Lol! The idea of another player chucking his cheap pointy lumps of brass and plastic at my beautifully crafted tungsten arrows is enough to send shivers down my spine!

So sell them in sets like poker chips. Then you have a hamfisted fool chucking your delicately balanced and beautifully crafted tungsten arrows like he's throwing rocks at cars off the overpass. :-)

Darts is pretty fun but I'm not very good. Good enough to have fun and win sometimes, but not that good.

I can't imagine watching it on TV ever though, seems dull. I've been wrong before though.

Also I don't know what skills are involved other than intuitive spatial awareness, same sort of motor skills you learn in any muscle memory sport.
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Jun 12 UTC
No! It was cool to watch. The individual rounds go pretty quick and when someone misses their double at the end and gives the game to their opponent when they should have had won, it just adds drama to the overall competition. It's better than bowling!

The actual game of darts is quite fun I think, but of course I cannot do betting or alcohol or whatever one might add to it.

Utility of History?
What is the use of history in society? Should it be taught in public institutions like schools? How should it be taught. In your opinion, does History have any use at all?
