I don't know if this is the unexperienced, unstable, or just not understanding a vet that does this, but 'resorting to pure chaos' is probably the best strategy for someone almost gone and can see his own grave, but it isn't entirely what you think it is.
Suppose you are getting eaten alive by the biggest player who is becoming a solo threat, but also being picked on by a few other players. You are going to die, you are surrounded by enemies... so I'd work a deal with the biggest person: Give your SCs away freely, but use my current units to cause chaos, first... So you push back at the little guys without fear of being eliminated by the big guy (yet), because he'll wait for you to cause chaos.
That's your time to convince the others that the big guy WILL solo, and you'll help because it is better than elimination. Only if those little guys work with you to push him back will the ending of the game possibly change.
It's a way to keep you in the game. Sure, if you play with morons, they'll not care and you have to make due on your wishes. Sure, sometimes the moron if the big guy and he'll take your centers without waiting and will run into a wall of the other players, but when you are playing with smart veterans, they'll start realizing the game and you'll get to stay in it...
