Because there are those who complain about a lack of Diplomacy Topics
One of the weakest parts of my game is that I don't go to other players with plans, but rather listen to plans, and adapt my strategy. Do you prefer to engage first, or listen to others? And how would you suggest I improve upon actively engaging with other players with ideas rather than waiting for them to come to me?

Muting is a curious feature
Apparently, you cannot mute a banned player. I discovered this when I tried muting bullshiot threads to make scouring the forums for an old thread easier. Curious indeed. By one's banning, they become like the mods: immutable.

Don't blame the free website for Tettleton's Chew
A free website is a website where a party may sign up for completely voluntary and free goods and/or services.
Any posting or trolling in the forums by a 3rd party is not a free website transaction. You muting a Tettleton's Chew after work is a free website transaction.

For me, I'd probably pick free-running. For those of you who don't know, free-running is basically running up walls and over the roofs of skyscrapers and awesome crap like that. I'd choose it because it's freaking awesome.

A World Peace Envoy, travelling to different countries and persuading rulers to stop killing people and starting wars. To convince countries like the US and Europe to stop wasting resources on making weapons for export and re-direct that money to more productive uses ......... that's me !!

Something artistic. Before I became a slave to work i was pretty heavily involved in music and theatre (but not musical theatre). So either amazing acting talent or musical talent. Probably the former. I really enjoy the whole collaborative process of putting on a play or making a film and all fhe different people you get to meet and work with. Playing music though is a great feeling too.

Amazing at computer programming and computer associated engineering. Opens up all new sets of possibilities. Hacking, coding for money, etc. And building a HALO suit that really works!
1. Granting wishes. But you said something real, so...

2. Writing amazing movie scripts. Buy my script, because it's a guaranteed success. The last 10 scripts I wrote were best picture nominees AND grossed 100x the production costs. And that was all in 2011. That would make me a Hollywood insider, which would be fascinating, and make lots of money.

3. Sleight of hand/close-up magic. If I had to pick something where I mostly maintained my regular life, but just picked up a talent that would be handy or cool to have, I'd pick this one. It's self-explanatory.

Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Apr 12 UTC
I'd have to say that is a little less real than predicting the market. Sports betting, like playing poker, still has an element of luck. But the market is all about research and if you can get good at the research and predicting it, you can make a fortune off of it. But any given sunday, any NFL team can beat any other and no amoutn of research can compensate for that.

ulytau (541 D)

Predicting the market is not all about research. Unless you also pack the ability to convince people that your tips are the best researched ones, your fundamental analysis hangs on the prevailing mood in the market, which is all but stochastic at times thanks to the irrationality of investors. And if you indeed convince people to follow your lead and thus eliminate this irrationality, you won't make any extra profit yourself unless you win by speed in the arbitrage process. Plus the market makers and biggest institutional investors may use this sentiment to manipulate the market in such a way that people will start to question your advice, resulting in huge profits for them and huge losses for you. Alternatively, they may open a position and send such shock to the fundamentals that would force you to correct your predictions in a way that would benefit them. Therefore, either you keep your power to yourself and run a risk to going under due to unresearchable factors or you share it with others, creating an unstable situation where all investors put their eggs into the baskets you tell them based on research that cannot include all possible factors as well.

Predicting a bunch of matches between, say, 40 people is definitely easier than predicting the market. You would be inevitably better than any bookmaker and rake cash in the long run for sure.

I don't think it's fair that abge stays on webdip all day thinking of clever things to say.
Why can't he be stupid and troll once in a while? You know pull a Thucy, a D33, a KA, or a bullshoi, or hell even a TC/HC? I swear all the mods have to turn in a daily quota of clever statements to the almight abge, and he just has a document full of these clever ways to get +1.

Also I choose the skill of getting people to do what I want, anytime, any place.

You think that's not a real skill well then you ain't met "that guy" yet.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
10 Apr 12 UTC
However that is very broad and almost not in the spirit of this question.

So instead of saying things I'd love to have like presence of mind or people skills or memorization ability or motor skills, I'll narrow it down a bit.

I think the most advantageous skill to master would be to master lying and detecting lies.

I'm actually already really good at this such that it's kind of part of my identity, but becoming a true master would have implications beyond your wildest imagining.

If you are a perfect liar you can be anything. Because if everyone believes you then it is more or less actually true.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

i.e. does anyone remember my essay from last semester about lying and altering your personality?
ulytau (541 D)

Which essay, was it new?
Octavious (2732 D)

"If you are a perfect liar you can be anything. Because if everyone believes you then it is more or less actually true"

More actually true if you're lying about being a lawyer, less actually true if you're lying about being a doctor? And I do recall reading that essay of yours! It was really pretty good :).

Lying is an extremely useful skill to have, but I like to think I'm already rather good at it (see above). One thing I'd love to be good at, which I'm really pretty useless at, is learning new languages. Or maybe simply remembering things... I dare say the two are strongly linked.

Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Apr 12 UTC
I feel I'm an accomplished liar. But there is a time and a place for everything. Some lies will catch up with you, especially long term. So being the perfect liar doesn't mean you can maintain the facade when you aren't around. But for playing poker... Yeah, lying is an important skill to have. And it's all about lying with your body language and phony tells.

Guinness record for longest convoy?
I'm in a World Diplo game, and we are almost done. A 4 way draw in this very, very long game! I'm wondering if anyone knows the World's Record for longest convoy. We are trying one that will use 25 fleets! If that's the record, please let me know, ASAP, as I can ask us to change it to use 26 fleets.

Thanks!
